Precursors selling for 65 Gold on TP!

It is beyond debate that those who question the price of Precursors deserve naught but the severest Ridicule, as they are Entitled, they despise Hard Work, and they are undoubtedly Communists or Socialists (perhaps Both!). Therefore, it is the duty of the benevolent Rich to expose their Flawed logic. An Unpleasant task, perhaps, but those who have succeeded— through Skill, Cunning, and Superiority of Birth— to amass significant amounts of pixelated Wealth should view the Education of their lesser brethren not as a Burden, but rather as their God-Given Responsibility.

(How’d I do?)

Wow, for a moment, I hated you. Grats.
Reminds me of the faux-conversations I have with my ’bandmate.

Much of this thread reads like a badly-written Gilded Age political tract (complete with Random Capitalizations for Emphasis), so I figured I’d just be a little more explicit about the philosophy on display here.

You’re batting 1,000 against all the strawmen out there.

It’s not a strawman if it’s accurate.

Re-read this thread and do a shot for every time you see the word “entitlement” or a reference to socialism. Or don’t, unless you want to spend the weekend in the ER.

PLEASE more armor sets instead of outfits!

Remember that the last two sets, I think, had their own torch and pitchfork moments. First was the modified Human Cultural Light Armor for Flamekissed and then their was the Zodiac which had some taste questions and in turn a small tweak caused blow back from players who already had it.

They can’t win from losing. Throw in complaints about clipping caused by mixing armors and Charr tails, armor is a lot more of a hassle than an outfit.

I keep hearing this “They can’t win, so why bother” argument, but they obviously can win, and the wardrobe is proof. People loved it and I frequently see it cited as one of the best additions to the game since release. Why? Because players love customizing their looks. The wardrobe was also good from a profit standpoint, since 1) it gave players an incentive to collect tons of skins (which means more people playing the game to earn gold/items, not to mention more people buying skins from the gemstore), and 2) it provided a necessary platform for the implementation of collections since it made collecting skins much easier and more feasible. The wardrobe was added because, despite the hassle and resources involved, it was important for the game’s longevity. And the same is true of new armor sets.

Arenanet should ditch armors and go purely to outfits. OBVIOUSLY allow ways for players to get certain outfits from non cash shop sources (cash shop only outfits and content only outfits aka no gems involved0. Or just take the blade and soul route with respect to outfits only and completely ditch armor.

Outfits allow for my creativity in design compared to having to make sure each armor pieces fits and blah blah and might lead to less clipping.

I suspect a lot of players are going to be angry if they do that, but when are players ever happy about anything even something positive.

Good point! No one was happy when the wardrobe was released. Players hate character customization and would prefer not to spend gems on new armor sets (one for each weight class!) and transmutation charges for future applications.

I don’t expect the existing outfits to be made available as armor skins. I understand the technical limitations there. And in fact I don’t have a problem with outfits being sold at all. They have their uses.

My main gripe is that outfits seem to have entirely replaced armor sets. We haven’t seen a new armor set in the gemstore since April. They have added the Glorious armor as a PVP reward (which is great), but that’s it. I’m assuming (hoping) that this is just temporary and that they’re planning to add more armor sets later, preferably ones that are obtainable in-game. If not, people will continue to complain, and for good reason.

Come on do you really wanna customise that ? It looks great as is and no customization needed and you dont need charges every time. Win win if you ask me

It looks nice, and is easy to use. But yes, I very much want to customize that. The high collar on the female Outfit clips through a lot of hairstyles. I also prefer no gloves. And more than anything else, I want 1-4 dyes channels per piece, not per entire costume.

I don’t want to come to the party wearing the same dress as everyone else, no matter how pretty it is. For me, customization is always needed. I want to express my own personal style and creativity, not be a cookie cutter copy of everyone around me. With Outfits, you may as well be wearing a neutral gray jumpsuit. I will not be buying any until they give me a lobotomy to remove my individual personality.

Thank you! This is exactly how I feel and I’m getting frustrated with people dismissing customization as some unimportant thing. Character customization is a huge deal for many MMO players, and smart game companies know this and encourage it because it’s a very easy and cheap way to keep people playing (not to mention a great platform for cosmetic item sales in a cash shop). Anyone who doubts this should think long and hard about why the wardrobe was such a popular addition to this game.

And for the record, I’m not actually anti-outfit. I own a couple because I like having a way for my alts to look decent while leveling. Outfits are fine for what they are, but they can’t replace armor sets. They serve a totally different purpose. Some people might be fine with outfits despite the lack of customization, but some people also dye their armor only in Abyss and Celestial— does that mean we don’t need other dyes?

To the developers, community managers, and all the other folks at Arenanet who labor every day to make this a great game— thanks for what you do. What I’m about to say isn’t aimed at you, because I truly believe you just want to make the best game possible and I doubt this change was your idea. I work in a corporate setting too, and sometimes I have to grit my teeth and defend management’s decisions even when I strongly disagree with them. It’s never fun.

That said, please convey our frustration and disappointment to the people who are responsible for this change, because it’s awful. I know I’m not the only person who’s lost trust in this game and its direction— the complete communication blackout on long-term development, combined with some really bad design decisions, has left a bad taste in my mouth. If the game were in a great place otherwise I doubt this would be as big of a deal, but folks are feeling uncharitable right now because we seem to be getting nothing but bad news (or no news). And lately there’s been this odd trend of implementing terrible “fixes” to seemingly non-existent problems. But whereas the changes to traits and the NPE just seemed kind of baffling, this one seems depressingly straightforward: it looks like a blatant money grab. Maybe you had good reasons for this change, I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter— what matters is how it’s perceived. The best thing you can do is revert the change, gather community feedback on actual improvements for the currency exchange, and then implement those improvements. And the sooner, the better.

Buying Legendaries: Time frame

It’s not a very popular legendary, true, but Minstrels are still bought and sold fairly regularly. I sold one a couple months ago and I was watching the graphs pretty closely while mine was up for sale. I noticed that there appeared to be one or two selling every day (it’s possible they were being de-listed of course, but that’s less likely given the penalty). I can’t be sure how many more were selling to buy order, since buy orders can be cancelled at no risk to the buyer, but I did see some buy orders go up and then disappear almost immediately, which suggests that they were filled (there’s little reason to cancel a buy order that’s only been up for an hour). So I don’t think your buy order will languish for that long, especially if you put in an order fairly close to the sell price. You might have to wait a few days but I doubt it will take weeks. Good luck!
