Just use the Invisibility that is part of the jumping puzzle. It’s there for a reason.
I’ve been trying for the kite on and off since the start of the event, with no luck. Bunch of griefers have been camping above and / or in the cage room since the beginning. There doesn’t seem to be a way to maintain the fountain’s stealth through the dark cage room, since you can’t carry the torch while stealthed.
It is incredibly frustrating to think that I might end up with a missing achievement AND 6/7 on the “get all kites” achievement, not because of any fault on my end, but because a bunch of people go out of their way to spread utter misery.
Aside from Obsidian Sanctum, however, this has been one of the best living story content I’ve experienced thus far. Sadly, what could have been a perfect experience is tarnished by—yet again—intermixed PvE and PvP content. I really hope the devs learn and never tie a PvE achievement with a PvP area / jumping puzzle / any PvP content ever again.
I know this is day 1 of Toypocalypse’s release and this is not a rant.
I’d just like to know if ANet has any plans on implementing a system that would allow you to participate in Toypocalypse together with your friends or guildies before the Wintersday season ends. Reasonably speaking, I’m not keeping my hopes up, but asked just on the off-chance that ANet does have something in the works.
I really love Guild Wars 2, and have been playing it for the most part with my boyfriend. It boggles my mind that the finale of this amazing event disallows me to experience it with him unless by random chance :/

Ticket opened since 2 days ago with responses that weren’t helpful. Sad to say, it did not even seem like support had read what I typed, which explained my situation.
I’ve been having issues purchasing gems since launch.
Thus far the only “solution” support has come up with is for me to contact them every time I want to make a gem purchase, so that they can temporarily grant permission to my account.
With gem cards being sold in retail stores, and the typically quick response from support that is all fine and dandy. In fact, support has been rather helpful in terms of granting me temporary permission for gem purchases.
But this time round NCSoft’s account support mysteriously “escalated” my ticket to payment review. The next day, someone from payment review gives me tips on internet browser and security settings.
It’s all highly perplexing considering I was referring to in-game purchases…while it has only been a day since I replied to the person from payment review, I do hope someone who actually understands my situation reviews the ticket
Yes. While there are downsides to this I much prefer to save time, and not have a couple of gaming hours wasted just trying to get a last member, or to have a dungeon run utterly nosedive just from 1-2 ppl disconnecting.
Colin Johanson, Jun. 19 2012 blog post: “We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
Lindsey Murdock Nov. 13 2012 blog post: “In November we’ll unveil the first Ascended items. This new rarity type falls between Exotic and Legendary on the spectrum of rarity and has slightly higher stats than Exotics.”
I am strongly against adding gear that has “better stats” than exotics as well. For crying out loud even legendaries are no better than exotics. If you do go ahead with this I am sure many of us would feel very betrayed.
Please for the love of god do not jump onto the bandwagon of gear-grinding-for-better-stats. As a PvE-focused player I would hate to have to worry about getting new (better) gear in future patches if this is going to be the new trend. The worst part is we have to hear this from outside sources? There should be transparency for such major changes, even if the stat-advantages are minor.
@Josh
I was not in the least bit fazed by the difficulty of the clock tower. In fact, I never had so much fun being challenged like that in a while, so thank you for making such a great puzzle! I completed it with an asura, and yes it may get a little aggravating to find one’s character amidst all the other players, but I think it adds to the challenge. Please, please please don’t ever dumb down the difficulty just because people complain about it. But, as you’ve said, it probably exponentially frustrated people because it was part of a holiday event.
Encountered the same issue on Crystal Desert too. It looks like a bug. I’ve created a topic about it in the Game Bugs section anyway, if you wanna repost there: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Forsaken-Fortune-Fleshgrazer-Boss-Bug/first#post567459
Attempted to obtain the Forsaken Fortune achievement a moment ago.
We made it to the last DE, where you fight a boss named Veteran Fleshgrazer.
Somehow the boss ended up with a permanent “Determined” (invulnerable) buff at 1% health and we were unable to kill it.
We tried relighting all braziers, and letting its health regen to 100% to no avail.

I completely agree with this. Many times I have yearned to buy a full armor set (cultural, dungeon, order etc.) but held back because of how ridiculously expensive it would be if those armor sets do not have the stats for my build. Because then I’d have to buy another full set of rares or exotics to transmute over (which can get rather pricey).
As the above poster mention, DCUO is a perfect example of how to handle multiple equipment skins. DCUO seemed to have streamlined it even further by immediately unlocking, and making accessible, the skins that you have obtained, so that you can play around with it at any time without the extra step of going to a npc and re-buying the skin. I am all for having it to be cash shop related if that means ANet does something about it.
@Somna Dungeon Gifts cannot be used in the Mystic Forge. They are used in crafting the gift specific to each legendary weapon (e.g. Bifrost requires Gift of Color, which is crafted with a Gift of Zhaitan). On the other hand, these crafted gifts can be put in the Mystic Forge.
I agree with where the OP, and some other posters are coming from.
Sure, you can argue for and against (karma) DR, but I still don’t understand the hostility between both camps. Why should you care about how others want to play this game? As long as it doesn’t affect any legitimate players in a negative way, there shouldn’t be a cause for argument. Arguably zergs can have a negative effect if a solo player chances upon a DE but fails to tag any monsters, I’ll give you that, but is it so important to the non-karma-grinder / non-farmer that one MUST do a certain DE?
Just because ANet, and I’m loosely paraphrasing here, “did not want people to grind in GW2,” does not make it fair for people to champion the cause of putting down people who want to grind in this game. Those who are against DR aren’t saying to put more grinding elements into the game, at least I don’t, but rather to not make the grinding any harder or more time consuming than it already is.
Ultimately, I think everything depends on ANet’s stance on this and how they respond, which is something already encapsulated by the OP’s questions.
At this point in time, I just want to know:
1) ANet’s intended target of the DR.
2) Whether ANet wishes to use the DR as a means of making the legendary more time-consuming (READ: not more difficult, but more time-consuming).
P.S. I notice people saying that karma doesn’t affect botters, but think again. Karma ingredients are indeed used to craft certain items (albeit mostly food). But more disconcerting is that fact that legendaries are sellable on the TP, which means that karma-grinding can be part of a long term investment of botters and gold-sellers to farm for a legendary and sell it for exorbitant prices. I won’t say anymore as that issue is kind of off-topic, but to me this just spells out a “richest person ‘wins’ game” scenario where a wealthy person could just convert loads of gems and buy legendaries off TP. Of course, I doubt that any legitimate players would be willing to part with their legendaries though. This would be a cause for karma DR to be retained, which would suck. One fairly obvious solution would be to not make legendaries sellable, but I guess that is rather open to debate (one which I don’t want to start here).
Variety in activities in the obtainment of end-game gear
in Suggestions
Posted by: fantomethetaru.3416
TL;DR: Not saying end-game gear obtainment should be simplified. Rather, the process of obtainment should require a variety of activities of equal time investment as a whole, and not a single activity that demands a lengthy amount of time investment.
[Preface]
Okay, just spent an hour trying to type this and it’s just not panning out.
It’s 3:39am and this may seem a little snippy, but let me just say that I have the utmost respect for ANet and thoroughly enjoy both GW1 and 2.
Everyone and their grandmothers are offering their 2 cents about the DR system and the changes made to DE farming / karma gaining, and I did not think adding my own would really do any good at this point in time. Rather, I would like to make an overall suggestion to the game as a whole.
To preface, I have 2 lvl 80s, and am working towards a legendary (not counting ingredients buyable with “money”: 250k karma for 48 clovers, 300+ badges, 500 dungeon tokens). Later on, when I speak of end-game I am only referring to PvE and not PvP or WvW, as besides earning badges, I am not well-knowledged about either. While I will be using present content as examples, this may be more implementable for future content.
[The Spiel]
Thus far, I have not really felt that bored to the game, because of the sense of progression and accomplishment it has offered me, with respect to the time and effort I have spent. However, it seems to me the karma requirements for legendaries are particularly skewed in terms of time and repetitiveness, compared to other components.
This aspect of GW2 seems to be extended to karma equipment, T3 cultural stuff and mystic forge exotics as well. For convenience’s sake, I will refer to these, and legendaries, as end-game equipment. Sure, we the players, especially casuals, can stop at this point of the game and be satisfied, but let us consider those of the semi-hardcore and hardcore population — a.k.a. the people who would actually work towards these goals.
What is disconcerting to me is that such players would have to engage in repetitive activities to achieve their goals. To me, this goes against the whole appealing game design of GW2, which is the elimination of the feeling of the “grind” that has been associated with other MMOs. Leveling my characters to 80 was very very fun, despite the overlap in the zones I went through, simply because GW2’s game system offered a sense of variety in progression (DEs, hearts, vistas, WvW, general exploration), and world immersion.
However, working towards end-game equipment does not offer this same feeling. Arguably, how they are obtained is based on a player’s choice — one could farm the same few DEs over and over again, or one could travel around the world, taking one’s time to explore and experience each and every DE in a longer, more relaxed pace. But the reality is that players will find the most efficient way of obtaining this equipment no matter what, to maximize the ratio between time:reward, and simply because time matters.
[The Suggestion]
Rather than altering the system to go against these player tactics that maximizes efficiency, how about applying the same overall design of GW2 to its end-game as well?
Let’s say, as an example, a legendary requires Components A, B, and C.
A and B takes 4 full days each of certain activities to fulfill (dungeon, WvW).
C takes 20 days (karma / DE).
Instead of doing the above, how about spicing things up (offering variety) by evening out the time and effort requirements for C?
So: A, B and C takes 4 full days each of certain activities to fulfill.
To make up for the 16 days shaved off C, add Components D, E, F, G that each require 4 full days each of certain other activities to fulfill.
Of course, these components should not just be obtaining an item off the TP, or purely from a random number generator (don’t get me started on clovers…). These new components that make up for the decreased time investment in C should require some sort of in-game activity, such as killing certain champion bosses that follow an elaborate chain of DEs, doing certain jumping puzzles, perhaps even going through certain challenging instanced encounters. But what they should not require is a disproportionate amount of time investment as the other components, which are fine as they are.
I may be using legendaries as an example, but this concept can be applied to other end-game equipment as well. So far, the only other part of non-pvp end-game that has achieved this is dungeon equipment. The idea that players can efficiently work towards obtaining a full set of dungeon gear by doing all or 2 paths a day is magnificent.
Why not do something similar for the rest as well?
We did Ascalonian Catacombs twice, once for the Ghost Eater path (option 2), and followed by the Howling King path (option 1). This was the token reward breakdown:
First Run, Path 2:
Player 1 (me): 45
Player 2: 45
Player 3: 60
Player 4: 60
Player 5: 60
Second Run, Path 1:
Player 1 (me): 30
Player 2: 30
Player 3: 60
Player 4: 60
Player 5: 60
These runs were the first time we were doing it for the day. In fact, I know that me players 3 and 4 have not done it in more than 24 hours.
Hope you guys can fix it ASAP, as it feels ridiculously unfair that some of us get much less tokens in return for an equal amount of time / effort spent in dungeons.
I am experiencing the same issue after purchasing my first character slot expansion. I was deducted of 800 gems, but when I log out to check I did not receive an extra slot. Any further attempts to purchase more slots lead to nothing happening (no errors, no decrease in gems etc.). Afterwards I attempted to purchase a 5 karma booster set the transaction for that, too, did not go through.
After encountering that issue, any further purchases of gems still lead to a successful transaction (I got an email confirming it) but the amount of gems shown in-game still reflects the same amount I had since I bought my first character expansion slot.
Resetting the game client, logging into different characters and resetting the computer did nothing to reflect any of the changes (purchases of items and gems) made after buying my first character expansion slot.
Ticket #: 120828-017888
Since the first few days of GW2’s release I’ve had had these “card approval failed” error messages. After no replies for a week (the ticket was created on August 28th) I finally got ahold of live help. The support staff was very friendly and helpful, giving me a 24 hour grace period to buy as many gems as I want. However, he said to wait “a good while” before attempting any more purchases after those 24 hours because he did not know when the system would grant me permission again. If I were to encounter this error again, he said to submit another ticket and / or contact live help.
Well, it has been barely over a week, but I thought: “Hey, live help is on on Tuesdays, why not contact them if I try to make a purchase then?” Well, as it turns out, on Tuesday, the operation time for live help was mysteriously changed to Thursdays only. No problem, I thought. They did pull this trick a couple of times in the past week, but hey I got ahold of them once, I figured this constant time changes were not going to be something permanent. So, now that it’s Thursday, they have yet again changed their operating hours to Tuesdays only.
What the what? Am I the only one being played the fool here? I’ve heard bad (and good) things about NCsoft’s support system, but I didn’t think it would be this bad. Granted, NCsoft and ANet aren’t exactly the same entities, but still. If you simply can’t uphold a live help system, why lead your customers by the nose like this?
Anyway, I tried making a purchase and got the same error. I’ve updated the ticket to reflect that. Hope this gets fixed soon.
