While I’m unhappy about the marketing surrounding HoT, I think peeps saying a lack of response from ANet for 3 days equates to ANet doesn’t care is, I think, a bit unrealistic.

Yep. As I said, it took them 7 years to give us what they said would take 1-2. I’d say, check back in about, oh, a month, 3 perhaps.. A year? It certainly pays not to count with aNets clock…

And GW2 didn’t take 7 years, it was 5. They announced it in spring 2007, which was the same time they began work on it. It was released just over 5 years later. And 5 years is a pretty normal time for MMO developement.

As unhappy as I am with the current situation, I’m not going to start spouting off totally inaccurate information to bash them. Use facts for that.

I’d like to emphasize the not throwing poop at each other’s decisions in regards to whether or not they purchase the game. Some are grateful, some are not. It makes it ten times worse when we are pulling each other down for not making the same choice. Have a nice friendly debate with facts, but don’t expect to sway any opinions by putting someone on the chopping block because they don’t feel the same way. The posts put up to thank Anet have been torn up and down and it wasn’t even addressed to the haters. So sad and embarrassing when something like that gets hijacked. I feel like we need to do the Care-bear Stare or something because nothing else is working!

A simple point people don’t seem to understand is that the core game inclusion isn’t influencing the price in any way… it’s just something they threw in so new players that missed the previous sales aren’t stuck behind a huge paywall. They just got lucky to get the game at a lower price than others(free of charge in this case) the same way people got it for 75% less during the recent sales but nobody raised any pitchforks then even though they should have, according to the logic the complaining follows. The expansion itself costs 50$, you’d be paying that regardless of core game inclusion. Nobody is forcing you to pay extra for something you already have. As for the pricing itself, $40 to $50 is just standard pricing for MMO expansions. And saying there’s not enough content to justify the price isn’t valid because we don’t know how much content there actually is. Which is where the magic of pre-purchasing kicks in… you don’t have to buy it now if you don’t feel you know enough. Pre-purchasing is an optional gesture of faith from the consumers. The game didn’t release yet. Anet isn’t demanding that we pay for the game now and then releasing it in a week or two from now. The game is several months from being ready. In fact, Anet isn’t demanding anything and people are hatemongering for no real reason. The game isn’t going live with just the things that were revealed up until now, and I don’t know why people are acting like it is. There’s still months of reveals ahead of us. Just stop with the pointless, and frankly baseless anger and hatred.

That is what they are telling you and your buying into it. They have people that crunch numbers, that is their job, you can sure as heck bet your butt that they took into account the value of the core game and added it to the price tag. It would be idiotic for them to not do this. It helps them justify the $50 price tag even if they tell you it doesn’t.

Like I have said before, if you buy a meal from McDonalds they may tell you the fries are basically free but in actuality they have taken into consideration the value of each part of that meal, right down to the paper wrap around the straw.

Those youtubers were already fanboys, and whatever nonsense they’re saying now is just going to rally other fanboys. They’re not going to have any sway over reasonable, intelligent, people that can see this for what it really is.

Anet is going to have to own up to the trainwreck they created, and start taking steps toward fixing it, as well as re-earning the trust of their players.

pretty sad, but i agree with you. And it seems like they’re strategy at this point is “hopefully if we release more shiny things about guild halls, they will forget we just kittented on our fans faces.” hell they havent said anything else about the issue except they were looking into it. Just keep pushing the problem away and hope it gets shrugged off eventually.

Hopefully becuz of e3 week, there will be new mmos that will cater to people who are leaving. And in the future, our community will learn not to jump into the hype train with a blinded eye causes it seems like the old Anet from gw1 (the team that cares about its playerbase) is no longer there. I wonder when they will bring the holy trinity in gw2, its only a matter of time. They’re already selling pet rocks! (wtf)

I had historically decided to buy HoT as soon as it was available.

When the pre-purchase rolled around I was super excited and immediately went to the appropriate web page. Then when I got there I hesitated….
In essence as a veteran player I came away feeling that non of the pre-purchase deals suited me and as a result I went away with a collective ‘hmmmph’ and still haven’t pre-purchased it.

I guess I just find it amusing that I went from a 100% yes I’ll pre-purchase to feeling indifferent and thinking I’ll probably buy it ‘when I get around to it’.

Is Anet aware of these kind of responses from people? I’m just struggling with how I’ve almost done a 180 on this.

You know, for a little bit, I assumed that any major issues such as these is relayed to the a certain tier of management that handles these kinds of fire. But with the recent posting (i think a page back from this) about the issue with upgrading to HoT, I’m not sure anymore if any of the departments within Anet actually talk to each other lol

And hey! if they continue with this model, I am calling it now, as soon as close beta events comes out, they will start charging $1 per hour you play during the event. As absurd as that sounds……still calling it. Come on Anet, dont let me down now!

I like to bring up the ideal of if needed goods and services go up in price then non-needed goods and services should go up too. Its nice to live in a dream world where prices never changes but they do and entertainment tends to changes much faster then needed items. I would not be shocked at one point we will see games nearing the 100$ ranges as they are now (system games).

- New players get GW2 + HotT
- Old players get HotT + 1000 gems + character slot

But instead, they just ignored old community. I can understand opinion “It costs 50$, i agree”, even if i don’t think so, but i can’t approve ignoring old players at all.

Hell, I would be content if we just get a release date. Doing things like awarding with gems or character slot or wtv the hell vets or new players want is probably too hard for Anet to think about. Ever since this whole debacle started, the community have been posting all kinds of solutions which some sounds a bit too much and some actually solves the problem IMO. But for some reason, the power that be at Anet cannot figure out a solution is beyond me. Are they too far up their own hype train to even comprehend of the damage they collect by not saying anything of substance? Poor Gaile must be tossing back and forth to keep things calm.

In all fairness they should have known because from the release onward people have been saying give a character slot with it. Its just typical Anet they ‘listen’ to what the community says (they added the slot on a more expensive pack) but ignore most of it and just remember 2/3 words, then interpret it the way they want and completely miss the point the community was making (another example the big trait changes they did in the past, they took part of what the communtiy said and then did it completely wrong in their own interpretation).

Nor am I, and to be perfectly honest I wouldn’t expect them to answer each and everyone of these posts, that would be a full time job for someone and would probably have a breakdown within 24 hours.

They should however have made a sticky addressing the issue, people aren’t going to calm down over time, it is going to fester and tomorrow is a whole new day of people that have had time to think about how angry they are.

The problem is not that the expansion isn’t worth $50, most mmo expansions are like that and I’m more than willing to pay, the problem is that new players are getting the same amount of content for half the price, that they only need to pay $50 whereas senior/veteran players had to pay $100(50 for original gw2 50 for expansion). How is that fair? How can anyone defend that? It’s like a slap in the face to those of us that have been loyal to the game since launch, that we have to pay more, twice as much even, then the new players to play the same amount of content, that is the problem, that is where anet is screwing us over.

This is true, Anets scummy move alienates 2 kinds of users.

1. The legacy user that may paid the full price a long time ago, who has many hours on all alts and will now have to caugh up 800 gems, delete a likely lvl80 toon on all slots, or give into an upsale ultimatum. Also, as you stated, your loyalty and likely history of gem store purchases is worth nothing. They cant even give 2 slots like they did in GW1, or gems, or anything.

2. The new user (myself) who thought the upcoming expansion was an expansion, so I got the game ahead of time. I am new, don’t have much in the way of account bound stuff but I like my toons and dont want to be made to delete them to access content made on an old engine at nearly the cost of a new AAA game. Its weird that there is no stated compensation for either of us. What this tells me, gut instinct, is “run.. go to another MMO… give another dev a try”.

I’m thinking about FF14. They found a happy ending after kittenting out a so called mmo the first time they released it lol

Just putting in my two cents, I have bought the ultimate edition. Now said and done, no one was twisting my arm, and in my judgement I thought it was a better deal. After all the backlash and sore flavor left in my mouth about this new business practice that Anet is slowly turning to, all I want is a release date. And still hoping that HoT is even a bigger expansion alot of us could be thinking. And if its not, It will be hilarious from what kind of kittenstorm Anet is gonna have in the future.

They way I see it, its a win if HoT is a big success and this whole problem just goes away and the only topics people will have is balance issues. …..Or if its not, then the asxhole in me just can’t wait how Anet deals with the wrath of their fans….If they still have loyal fans that havent jumped ship yet.

Edit: just had a thought, I don’t know why we didn’t see it before. They did almost the exact same thing during beta of GW2. BUY THE GAME…but we just don’t know when it will be done. kitten , this community (myself included) just loves being slap in the face.
