I’m okay with punishing hardcore content, but mixing it in with casual content is stupid. Creaitng a gauntlet in which 90% of people will probably never complete is poor game design. They could easily have removed the orbs from Liadri to make the fight fair, then had a “hard mode” battle with the orbs for the few people who like dieing repeatedly.
It’s obviously not casual content. You don’t need to do it either. The main reason to do it is for a pretty cool mini. It’s a pretty decent reward for a hard fight. You don’t even need it for the big meta achievement for Queen’s Jubilee.
I do wish they had a normal mode and hard mode but it doesn’t really make much of a difference. It’s the same name for a different boss if that’s the case. Might as well just consider a different gauntlet challenge the “Story Mode” and her the hard mode. It doesn’t need to be done but if you want the mini you have to do it. That seems extremely fair to me.
I don’t know but wish I did. I’m hoping noone knows and that’s why there’s no response as I just got done reading a few page argument about ANet salaries vs garbagemen salaries while this thread is left alone.
I do take issue with people that try to force everyone to play the game their way. Accusing people of selfishness for not dressing in full zerker, requiring armor checks and achievement points to run dungeons, kicking non-DPS builds etc is simply raising the barrier of entry and making things needlessly difficult, imho.
Hit the nail right on the head there.
You can take the raid out of the game but you can’t take the raid mentality out of the player it seems. Oh noes-you’re in pvt; now we’ll take a full 5 minutes longer on the dungeon run! Those 5 minutes will put me at a great disadvantage 2hours from now, 3 days from now, 1 month from now, 1 year from now-be sure I will be worse off and you’ll be the sole reason. I suggest stop arguing with these types of ppl-the thought process of someone who believes that is obviously immature, and due to the anonymous and safe nature of the internet it festers arrogance of epic proportions. Maybe when they grow up they’ll realize how silly they were, but for now let the kids be kids….because you can’t do anything to an immature mind on the internet anyway-noway to show them reason.
Also, how silly would it seem for you to be seen arguing with a child in real life? So why bother arguing with them in the internet? They will (most of them….I hope) grow out of it in time.
Regarding OP: personally I like knights armor, zerker weapons with variable trinkets depending on the class for my ‘one set to rule them all’
I was like this at some point. I was so incredibly irate with people that slowed MMO efficiency down. I worked hard for my gear, studying my class and then mastering my class that I felt everyone wasting time was wasting mine. Then a friend pointed something out to me and I actually thought about it: what does this time saved accomplish? The answer is practically nothing. The time saved adds up little by little but what’s 30 minutes saved in 2 months? What’s 2 hours saved in 3 weeks? I’m not really accomplishing anything in this game and those 2 hours are accomplishing very little in a game I’m using to not accomplish anything IRL….
So my attitude is drastically changed. When bad players waste my time by being bad and I’m stuck taking 30-45 minutes on a 12-15 minute run it’s pretty frustrating but when I’m taking 15-20 minutes on a on a 12-15 minute run I could care less.
Back on topic I should be hitting 80 Guardian in the next few days. I’ve played guard in PvP quite a bit but I haven’t touched it for PvE outside leveling and living story stuff I could do. My followup question to OP’s is if I were to go with hybrid of Knights(or PVT if I decide to) and berserker what do I use for Weapons? Is it more efficient to go Knights or Zerker?
People seem to forget that this is still an MMO. Whatever else you may think it is, it’s not. It’s an MMO. To have a game that is playable forever, some things need to happen. Quests/Achievements are there to keep people moving. Once you get a level 80 character with perfect gear and everything, what point is there to ever playing on that one again (talking about open world, not pvp/wvw). The fact that they’re so easy is because of the tons of people that will gripe when things get too difficult for them. That’s why the harder ones or the ones that take more time and dedication to get come with titles. THOSE are what you show off. The fact that they’ve hidden that from some for this long just shows that they’re at least being somewhat original about it, which is the point, really. They’ve managed to get rid of grinding to level, but some MMO grind is just inescapable. Yet they’ve still made it fun and you still feel involved, whether it’s with other people, the area you’re in, or the NPCs, I’ve never felt like I’m just clicking around to kill a certain number of cliche fantasy animal to collect whatever drop item so some NPC can do something that really wasn’t worth my time helping them. And when it gets too close to becoming that, there’s humor tied in somewhere to show they meant it to be that way. Maybe I’m just lucky, or maybe it’s because I haven’t played the crap out of every MMO there is and don’t have a lot to compare this to.
It seems noone gets this. In a subforum people are raging about something being too hard(Liadra) and then people mad about something being too easy in another( this thread. Much less whiny and much more ICWUTUDIDTHAR ANET, though). In one subforum someone is mad Anet focuses too much on PvP and not PvE and in another people are mad Anet focusing on Living Story and not needed PvP balance fixes. If Anet does anything someone will be mad but people still give suggestions in the forms of demands with an “I am right and there is no negative result from my fix” attitude.
This game cannot be perfect as everyone has different opinions. It does seem to have a little of everything for everyone so far and growing. Faster in some areas than in others but if you can’t trust ANet to get things done in a way that makes money and caters to us then you might as well gtfo.
The fact that this game has the MMO aspects that keep me enjoying it but toned them down to keep me from hating it is amazing. Anyway, I agree with Eravyn’s quoted post so much I just wanted to speak my mind.
There’s very few specs in things in this game I would call OP and everything I have thought was a bit OP has been nerfed already. Phantasms when spec’d are one of the things.
Some disclaimers before I’m flamed(not like it will help):
-I’m talking 1v1
-I don’t think they’re ridiculously OP I just think if they were to get a small balance patch they’d be less devastating. Like maybe lower damage by a little but give them longer cripple on berserker or piercing on duelist to give them more viability in team fights while helping most classes in 1v1. This is not the thread for this discussion I’m just qualifying my comment.
Anyway despite them being crazy scary to come across the tips in here should be very helpful. In case any were missed here’s my list.
Focus on dodging phantasms.
Kill phantasms with CnD or some quick autoattacks. Keep in mind they often have retaliation for a few seconds after spawn so if possible wait for this buff to go away.
Stunning phantasm casts is great. I’m not sure if it still puts the cast on full cooldown. Blinding phantasms is great. If you have blinding power from pistol offhand keep it on them or hit them with blind mid cast. They get stuck with full cooldown. Blinding works better than stealthing imo bc if the mesmer is casting a phantasm while you’re stealthing it still pops and will immediately unleash as soon as you exit stealth.
If you see the mesmer start getting invuln from distortion shatter don’t worry about missing the damage as much because you’ve just made them destroy their phantasms.
If you’re having trouble identifying keep fighting mesmers over and over to get an idea of how to spot them. Obviously phantasms are labeled phantasms. Illusions never strafe, never backstep, never raise their hands to cast and a few other things I notice while midfight but brainfarting while hanging out at my deadend job.
and of course, don’t panic. Even if you decide the phantasm mesmer is a bit much for you with CDs down or health at half don’t panic. Calmly start the fight or back away like it’s not a big deal and you’ll find you’re much more efficient without technically doing much differently.
Hello,
I’ve had an 80 thief since shortly after launch but I’ve not done a lot of PVE in the game. I play a necro when I PVE but honestly I just prefer thief’s playstyle sometimes. I mostly PVP and I’ve done my fair share of WvW. I’ve played most thief builds and played many classes and builds in pvp. Just an intro in case any of that is relevant in upcoming discussions. I’m very confident in my PvP but extremely unsure of my PvE knowledge and skill.
My main question would be is S/P thief far behind D/D in damage?
Is S/D thief far behind D/D in damage?
Is 25/30/0/0/15 the best DPS in dungeons and for swapping Shortbow to like S/D for flanking strike?
Should I dismiss some DPS to hit blast finishers(fire I suppose. maybe light?) with SB during boss fights?
What utilities do thieves run besides shadow refuge for dungeons? I normally run infiltrator’s signet and shadowstep but would def think shadowstep is not extremely useful in dungeons. Is there a meta on the utilities or just swap based on scenario?
Is there anything I should know about thief for dungeons that PvPing and WvW may not have taught me?
