I’ve got a name in GW1 that my wife would like to use in GW2, but every time she tries to use it, she’s told the name is reserved in GW1 for another player. I can’t delete the character in GW1 (not that it would likely make a difference) because it’s my main.
Originally, name reservations were only going to last 5 days or so after launch. When will they stop being reserved?
[Tarnished Coast] Husband/Wife combo seeking relaxed PvX/RP guild
in Guilds

My wife and I are looking to join a medium-sized guild (as we’re having a rough time finding quality dungeon groups). We both enjoy light to medium RP (we like talking in-character when appropriate), but we’re not looking for long-term storylines or crafting coordinated, multi-character stories, etc.
We also don’t want to go through a rigorous “application” process that demands the filling out of various online forms, requires joining / frequently posting on a forum, protracted interview processes, and submitting “samples” of RP we’ve done. We’re pretty active players (we don’t have kids), we just don’t have time to do all of that.
We’re really just looking for a regular group of coherent, like-minded gamers who enjoy chatting in-character from time to time, running dungeons, and having a go at PVP (basically, just enjoying all GW2 has to offer). Thanks for reading and please let me know if you think your guild might be a good fit!
Mounts tend to get exponentially more ridiculous as the game matures, so you can’t go within 10 miles of a bank or crafting station without getting lost in an ugly sea of giant spiders, be-saddled baboons, two-story horses, etc.
Thank Lyssa GW2 doesn’t have mounts, and good-riddance, I say.
I just want something in medium armor that isn’t a dress or trench coat.
I support this. Thieves are clearly ninjas. I don’t want a ton of Asian inspired outfits, but more sleek, efficient ninja-style armor would be incredible.
Thanks for the replies. I was sort of hoping a dev might see this and pop in with something along the lines of what SlimChance said (as this is what I expect is the truth) and confirm / deny it.
But yeah, we both have GW1 accounts linked to our respective GW2 accounts. I just happen to be using a name on the original GW that she wanted to take over in GW2. Maybe we’ll get some word on this soon.
I couldn’t wait for the Trading Post to come back online because, in beta at least, I was able to sell unneeded drops at a decent profit from wherever I happened to be standing. “Oh the money I’ll have when it goes live,” I’d naively think to myself.
I know this isn’t beta, so you can’t base any real judgements about the live economy on that, but I really do not understand why SO MANY people are selling these drops on the TP one copper above vendor price. I get that they probably don’t realize there’s a 10% selling fee, but do they REALLY not see the 5 copper listing fee? They’re actively LOSING money and sinking the in-game economy at the same time. The thing is, it’s not just “6 available from 4 sellers” – it’s “598 available from 486 sellers”.
Sure, the game is new and there are a ton of players at the same level, but why do people do this? Even if the stuff was under-valued, wouldn’t you at least want to make 1 copper MORE than the vendor price? Oy…
I am of the opinion that gold SHOULD be scarce and players should be strong enough to resist buying illegitimate gold. Gas is expensive / necessary in real life, but that’s no excuse to start stealing it.
I think the issue isn’t so much the cost of travel and repairs (that doesn’t help) as it is the inability to turn much of a profit on the Trading Post with the game economy being so out of whack. EVERYTHING that isn’t a rare / exotic or fine crafting mats is going for VENDOR prices on the TP – stuff you find, stuff you craft, whatever. Why people are willing to LOSE money in order to sink the in-game economy is beyond me (I can only assume they’re unaware of things like listing fees and the 10% selling fee). In most other MMOs I’ve played, you could sell drops and crafted items at a pretty decent profit so money wasn’t so hard to come by. But when you can buy a full set of decent level 50 gear for less than 10 silver, something is amiss. To anyone who’s paying attention, it’s not worth selling anything on there.
As I understand it that name is likely used by another player if you never “took” the name yourself when GW2 released.
The legacy names were only reserved for a few days and then opened to the public.
The client specifically tells her something like “This name is currently reserved for an original Guild Wars player”, so I know it’s not just unavailable.
I was just wondering if it would do any good to delete the character since they’ve presumably built a list from “active” GW accounts pre-launch.
My wife wants to use the name of one of my characters from Guild Wars 1, but every time she tries to create it she’s told the name is reserved.
I remember reading that GW1 name reservations would only be in effect for the first 5 days or so after launch. I also read that Anet compiled a list of reserved names. With such a list in place, could I delete this character from GW1 and un-reserve the name so she can use it?
Cadecus’ Manor – Explorable
Member attempted to join dungeon in progress through entry point – given the dialogue to “join party already underway” or something to that end – entered to find himself alone in his own version of the instance.
Our group was all from the same server (Tarnished Coast) and we all entered from Overflow. The add-on member was from a different server, though he and the member of our party who recruited him were on the same overflow server when this happened.
We were able to add another person from Tarnished Coast with no issues.
It seems you’re a thief only every 45 secs.
The rest of your time, you’re an assassin.
Anet was going to call the profession ‘Batman’ instead of ‘Thief’, but there were some copyright issues.
What happens if I have auto attack on, is that every time I do that I simply fire of 1 shot and get out of stealth.
THIS is my only issue with stealth at the moment. I’m LOVING Thief, but when I trait myself to go stealth when I steal, it feels like a waste when I shadowstep, the “stealth” effect swirls around me, and there I am in the open just standing right next to my target with steal on cooldown.
My entire playstyle revolves around stealth. I hope they’ll take a look at this.
