Every company should be ashamed of themselves for charging money for products they spent money to produce. They should just chain their employees to their desks and stop paying them.
I mean, you refuse to collect a paycheck for your work right?
The funny thing is that ANet did offer you the chapters free of monetary charge. You turned them down.
Every player coming back is a potential buyer of gem shop items. When people get punished for having RL, and therefore not being able to play in certain time windows, I can relate that they may just not bother coming back. I personally do not mind to pay for story, if I am so inclined. What I mind is pretty much mandatory content behind another pay wall.
Alternatively we can burn the returning players with our oh so witty sarcasm. I am sure that helps the game sell more stuff.
2 would be impossible to make everyone happy, with the “elitists” demanding 500 hours of grind to get 1 skin and "casuals’ wanting it in under 10 (hyperbole here, but not by much). Same with rewards dependent only on personal contribution – people in organized guilds want events that require coordination (aka wurm, old teq, ect.), and pugs want something anyone can hop in and do easily (aka world bosses, VW, ect.).
The amount of people one kittenes off is not an either or, so the " won’t make everyone happy" argument I usually find somewhat stale. SOME elitist may demand 500, SOME casual may wish for 10, and gadzillion people are somewhere in between. I have to admit that I have little faith in anyone making guesses on where “most”, “xy % of players”, “xy group of players” are in this. But then, I used to work in social sciences, and have little faith left, to begin with.
As a list of ideals game developers may want to strive for (knowing well that no one will achieve them entirely) I find the text useful. I personally would indeed add the point: “make recycled rewards different SOMEhow” since I think the veterans have a point. And changing the color on a halo slightly, if that is a really time consuming, and difficult thing to do, I dare say, the devs have a LOT more problems than just the scaling of events.
Edit: I am not a veteran, except in one game, where items don’t matter. So, no ruffled feathers here, I just see the point of those people. And would like to halo in pretty much any color

Why is this such a big deal?
Anet, I enjoy this event. I think it’s fun. I do not understand why people play a portion of the game they don’t enjoy and then complain with nearly no end while doing it. Do something else.
I agree with you. It is not a big deal. There are enough games out there, that are fun. So if that is how events are designed in GW2, I will just go do something else. People like me, who missed season 1 onwards, how should we know that there have been events actually fun to more than 3/100 people.
It is a shame for a very beautiful game, interesting mechanics, but other than that, not a problem to move on, for me. I am not sure that is what Anet wants to achieve though. So I personally am VERY glad that there are people who take time and effort to suggest ways to make the game more fun for more people. Even those who are only doing the “complaining” without too many suggestions, are sticking it out.
I am not sure you would like “your” GW2, if all the complainers just silently left, as you suggest. Kinda tough to do SW with just 3 people, I think.
