In that moment Trahearne felt all of Orr pulse with hope. Orr itself hummed with her words, the plant life swayed keeping tempo. The buzzing form the defense seemed to add to the song. All of Orr was singing with her.
“Distant sound of melodies,
Darting through the night to your heart,
Auroras, mist, and echoes dance,
In the solitude of our life,
Pleading, sighing arias,
Gently grieving in captive misery,
Darkness sings a forlorn song,
Yet our hope can still rise up,”
The moon lit up the darkness, making Orr look eerily beautiful. The stars glittered in the sky like distant lanterns. Everything seemed to be buzzing with an unknown energy. Hope filled all those who could hear her, even those who were trapped by Zhaitan.
“Nightmares come,
Where shadows roam,
Lift your voice,
Lift your hope,”
Tarrarain gripped her bow tightly as the words tore out of her mouth from her heart. Her tears still fell. Somewhere in the back of her mind she hoped that she was not singing to loudly. It would be her luck that everyone would hear her and laugh. Worse yet Trahearne would hear her.
“Fear not this night,
You will not go astray,
Though shadows fall,
Still the stars find their way,”
Many were surprised by how loud she could sing. Tarrarain was not know for yelling or being angry. She was seen as the Marshal’s right hand and confidant, his strength and courage. Some saw her as meek, a ranger of the wilds.
“And though the night sky’s,
Filled with blackness,
Fear not, rise up,
Call out and take my hand,”
It took everything Trahearne had not to jump over Biscuit and do just what those last words were. He did try and call out to her but no sound came. His mind screamed her name, but it was drowned out by Orr. It was impossible for him to get her attention.
“Fear not this night,
You will not go astray,
Though shadows fall,
Still the stars find their way,”
Any who could not hear Orr singing with Tarrarain could now hear it. Everything around them seemed to have an ethereal look to it. It almost seemed as if Tarrarain was not real. Whatever Trahearne was feeling he thought that it might tare him apart. He wanted to go to her but to him it was like Orr was telling him to let her finish. It was then that he noticed two things. One, every man and woman was watching her all stood at attention. Two, Tarrarain was gripping her bow so tightly that her fingernails had cut her and the blood glistened in the moonlight.
“Fear not this night,
You will not go astray,
Though shadows fall,
Still the stars find their way,”
Trahearne didn’t know how much more he could take. Her voice was inspirational even to him. He knew what she was trying to say, he just didn’t know how to answer her. The agony that he was feeling threatened to bring him to his knees. Again and again he tried to call out to her but was unable to make a sound.
“And you can always be strong
Lift your voice
With the first light of dawn
Dawn’s just a heartbeat away
Hope’s just a sunrise away.”
The last words floated away from Tarrarain and into silence. For a short moment she forgot where she was. Her eyes were closed and her mind buzzing. It seemed that not only had the song effected Orr as it it but it also reverberated within the Dream of Dreams.
“Tarrarain!” finally her name left his lips even before he could stop it. Trahearne watched as she turned around. Asurean would recorded that Sylvari do not blush, they only glow more brightly. Tarrarain saw that everyone was watching her, each member had their helmets removed, standing at attention. A Norn was the first to applaud her, it would take longer for the Sylvari to come around from the song. Once Tarrarain realized who it was that called her name she could only glow brighter. She looked at Trahearne for a moment before turning around.
