Yes, they can’t reply because they know they’d be lying and going back on their promises. Shame on you arenanet, shame on you.
I still don’t understand why we need higher stats on the ascended gear. Isn’t it enough to have an ascended slot where you can put the new stuff to prevent Agony in?
I mean, a few more points of stats is not enough to appease those who want significant upgrades, and it really offends others who bought into the whole “no gear grind” that Anet was advertising.
This is a lose-lose situation for sure.
That’s not a Merlion… Merlions have the body of a fish!
Agreed, speed runs destroy the fun of dungeons. Make the dungeons smaller but more challenging is the way to go.
I think people need to be honest about something though. How quickly are they clearing the DEs? Do they actually complete the events, or just hit the mob enough to secure a bronze /silver / gold and then move on? I’ve never been hit by DR, and I stick with the event from start to end.
There’s definitely strategy for trash mobs and if you’re dying to them, it means your team hasn’t figured it out yet, just like the bosses.
For example, in AC explorer or story:
Melee mobs: kite. Too many people want to melee against melee mobs.
Rangers: blind, stun, remove their conditions. Kill these guys first
Eles: interrupt, avoid AOE, heal through the damage
Necro: remove conditions or just heal through the damage
Mesmer: leave till last
The tricky and dynamic bit is that everyone needs to know how to handle aggro. Easiest to just run away if you’re being focused by the mobs. Swiftness is very useful.
Also, staying alive often comes down to whether your team mates are quick in rezzing you.
I second that
Seriously, the only reason why dungeons are difficult now is because the strategy guides like Tankspot are not available yet so you have to figure out the way to beat it like Paragon does. I bet once the guides are up and widely available, everyone will be complaining that the dungeons are too easy.
Examples of difficult stuff that is now easy:
AC story mode lovers used to be a wipefest, but now everyone knows that you put 4 on Ralena and one guy throwing boulders at Vassar. It has become a cakewalk.
TA Story mode second boss: just stack party swiftness buffs and run around in circles shooting the boss.
Honestly guys, do you want everything handed to you on a silver plate?
On windows, I can select which device I want sound on (speakers, headset etc.) but that’s not possible on the Mac. Only thing I can do is select the default sound device on the Mac OS itself, and then I have to reboot the client.
Is there a way to resolve this?
A big thank you! And out of the blue too! This really made my day
Hi all,
Instead of all the rage/l2p posts, I thought I’d put up something constructive instead.
I’ve been running AC story mode quite a bit because I actually like the combat, story and setting, and I thought I’d put some tips down for other players new to GW2 Ascalon Catacombs dungeon. I run many new players through the dungeon (especially warriors, which seems like a popular class), and here are some of the things I’ve learned while playing (others please feel free to contribute).
In general, I think warriors are pretty cool in dungeons, being able to fit either the dps, support or control role quite well — often by just switching up weapons and skills.
Important note #1
Don’t tank stuff. I don’t think warriors can tank stuff face to face with a shield or great sword in this game like other MMOs.
Important note #2
Downed is not dead, and is a fundamental mechanic of the game. You can make mistakes. Always try to revive your teammates who are downed. If they are dead, don’t bother till after the fight.
Warrior roles in the catacombs:
1) DPS: 100 blades works well here. If you want to DPS melee mobs, i.e. Ascalonian Warriors, make sure they aren’t facing you (i.e. hit them from behind). Greatsword also gives you great AOE via the number 3 key. Rifles work pretty well too and you should always have one on swap.
2) Support: Your most important role is to rez (i.e. revive) ppl when they go down. You can take more hits than others, you can use endure pain while rezzing, and you have traits that improve your toughness when rezzing or even rez faster. You can also mass rez with your elite banner.
You also have access to Shake It Off to remove conditions on others (great skill IMO).
3) Control: Your rifle can be used to cripple and knock back enemy warriors. If I really need to control stuff, I prefer my 2H hammer. You have access to 2 stuns, a knockback and a cripple. This will let you basically keep a warrior type mob away from your party members for a long time. Cripple them (#3 key) otherwise if they come after you, knock them back or stun them. Keeping warrior mobs at a distance where they can’t do any damage is the best way to tank for your party (i.e. just like in pvp). Don’t go toe to toe with the enemy, it’s very inefficient in terms of health.
Important skills
1) Shake it off is amazing. It’s your break stun ability, so you can use it when you get knocked down by a warrior to avoid taking a butt load of damage. Use it to remove poison or cripple. Even better, it works on your teammates too to remove cripples/posion. This is one of your primary support skills. I keep it slotted all the time.
2) Endure pain: I use it mainly to rez ppl if I have to take unavoidable damage. It’s also a stun breaker, so you can use it if you get stunned by warriors or rangers.
Mobs:
1) Warrior mobs — just kite them around with your rifle or 2H hammer. If you get charged, use Shake it off to escape.
2) Elementalist — avoid their AOE. They will pew pew you with missiles. Make sure you have enough +vit. Run away and heal if your health drops too low.
3) Rangers — The worse mobs in the dungeon. They cripple/bleed/poison you. Cripple makes you harder to avoid their warriors. Poison makes your heals worse and slowly kills you. Kill these guys first, and try to remove the conditions. Don’t melee them — they have a kick that will knock you back (I think). Keep at max range and dodge their spike traps — it’s the brown projectile that they fire. Keep trying to heal and remove the poison.
4) Necroes — they kill with condition damage. Fear can be broken with Shake it Off (isn’t this an amazing skill or what!). Make sure you have enough +vit (condition damage is not mitigated by armor/toughness).
5) Mesmers — They don’t do much, just kill them last.
Bosses
1) The ranger boss: Kill the wolf that spawns, then kill him on the second wolf spawn. Throw boulders if you want (optional).
2) The necro boss: Kill the adds, avoid red stuff on the ground.
3) The lovers: split the group in two, and each group should go to the opposite platforms. Ranged should kill the girl at max range so that you have time to dodge the lightning she throws. Melee kill the guy mesmer. Note: hammer is better here to reduce the amount of damage you take from the mesmer dude by keeping him stunned / weakened as much as possible. A hammer warrior and a healing type support makes killing the mesmer a piece of cake as long as you rotate stuns. I think it’s even possible solo. Remember to kill adds and keep them apart.
I hope this helps you get through the catacombs in one piece. Good luck and enjoy the experience!
