I guess the current Tempest spec is neither a bit stronger than the base class neither it brings anything new to the ele: overloads are way too riskier to be used, and the payoff does not justify being susceptible to CC and being locked out of the attunement, and current offhands can provide more frontline support than what the Warhorn offers. The shouts are not wholeheartedly bad, but the CD in some is too high.
The thing is, even though the elite spec is supposed to open up new play styles, if it barely does that and in a manner in all ways inferior to current specs, then it is going to be a useless specialisation.
This is so beautiful that my heart almost overloaded.
A couple of days ago I came up with an idea for an alternative specialisation. It would allow access to mainhand sword, and the mechanic would be similar to the current tempest: overload attunements, but instead of the current effects, your sword skills would be empowered for a short duration. So you could overload say – fire – and for a while, the whole autoattack chain applied burning, and the other skills could also be empowered. Burning damage could also last longer whilst in ‘overload mode’. In water, each sword swing could heal for a small amount, and so on.
The overload would still be a channel, but now during that channel nothing would happen, and the overload buff would only be granted after successfully channelling. The ele could get a nice aura with sound effects, to let people know that the mechanic is being used.
Locking out the attunement for 20 seconds would still be a thing, to maintain the risk/reward idea, but now, you actually got a high reward. Likewise, if you wanted to overload in the middle of a fight, you would still be susceptible to CC, but the reward would be much greater, and the incentive to pop Armour of Earth/any other stability source to guarantee that overload would actually be worth it.
I honestly don’t know how farfetched this would be, it was just the product of my sadness and frustration with the current Tempest setup.
1. Tempest (Overall): 1
2. Traits: 2
3. Warhorn: 1
4. Overloads: 1
5. Healing Skill: 2
6. Utilities: 2
7. Elite Skill: 1
8. Animations & sound effects: 2
I main Ele since GW2 day one, and I have to say, the Tempest is the biggest slap in the face we could ever have gotten. At this point, I could actually feel happy if they removed the specialisation altogether and Ele became the only specialisation-less class.
It needs serious rework: Warhorn skins and animations are severely lackluster and underwhelming, the overload mechanic pretty much equates to placing a big bright arrow on top of your head saying ‘Please interrupt me’, what we get from overloading an attunement does not justify being locked out of it for 20 seconds (even when traited to reduce the cd), and the elite is both incredibly useless and not Tempest-like, it almost feels like they ran out of ideas and decided to shoehorn in a mechanic that would thematically best fit another class – say the Chronomancer.
Whilst the new elite specialisations are meant to unlock new play style mechanics, if the new mechanic is lackluster and in all aspects inferior to the already existing ones, it pretty much means that it will not be used.
I sincerely hope that Anet is looking at the massive negative feedback the Tempest is getting. I belive it would not be disproportionate for them to pull back on the Tempest, rework it based on feedback, and present it anew.

Even if we don’t kill Scarlet and Ceara lives on, I think she is past any redemption. I mean after all the kitten she has done the only path left for her is to rot in some jail cell or at the far end of our swords.
I disagree. I’m personally seeing a close resemblance to Saint Alia Atreides, of Dune. I very much disliked her near the end, then her old personality came out a killed itself in order to prevent the personality of Baron Harkonnen winning control. She was very much redeemed at the end.
While I can see the resemblance, in the crescent internal struggle between Ceara/Whatever is there, it seems to me that Scarlet has lost the fight long ago, probably since the time she came out of Omadd’s machine. While Alia gradually loses control over time, Scarlet’s plans are cirurgical and carefully planned. Doesn’t seem consistent with an erratic and seemingly random personality. If that were so, we would have seen the flaws in Scarlet’s grand design, and so far, everything seems to be according to her plan.
It doesn’t seem reasonable for any of the members of Destiny’s Orphans to die so soon. I’m thinking that at the end of the current arc Scarlet will awaken whatever dragon/force she has been poking for a while, and that creature’s surge of power might overcome her feeble remaining mental barriers, rendering her a vegetable (oh the puns) or pretty much killing her. Basically Scarlet would not be the real enemy, but merely the catalyst for its awakening. Something on the line of ‘oh poor her, after all she was being controlled and manipulated, and she actually was a good character’ ( or her motives were harsh but the ends perfectly justified the means). She’d be Tyria’s Snape.
It seems to me that the the end of the current living story arc will mark the awakening of a bigger deadlier enemy, which DE 2.0/Destiny’s Orphans will have to come together and fight. Maybe one or some of them will die in the future, but it just doesn’t seem plausible to get rid of them in a stage where the public still hasn’t grown to fully know them yet.

This is the one I’ve been using since the patch:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQJAoYhMmKbyx4wjDAkHmATJiCPUeMTO2A-jQCBkIAEBgJPFRjtsNsVXRr8KI6aYKXER1GxFRrGA-e
Be mindful of the changes to some traits. Nonetheless, I’m using the new Soothing Wave but I’m still unsure if I should use Powerful Aura or Cleasing Wave. I might stick with the Aura since it brings more synergy to parties.
I’ve been playing with Arcane Brilliance, and it works perfect after you engage the mobs, lay down your fire field and need another blast finisher after using Arcane Wave, and before/after dodge-roll in earth. It heals a lot if you’re surrounded by enemies, but I feel I am compelled to use its blast finisher inside the fire field even if my health is high. Which shortly after leaves me kinda unprotected.
Thaumanova Story Mode
- Scarlet just HAD to play a part in this. I’m not fond of her (personally, I think she’s like an evil Trahearne, whom I also don’t particularly enjoy), and when I saw her pop up and initiate the meltdown, well, it was kind of a letdown.
- But shortly after, I learned there were magical currents spamming worldwide-Tyria, and Scarlett is probably tampering with them.
- I got to fight with a humanoid shiny sparkling thing, which opens up the way for future content involving a possible race of sparkling entities and how they’re connected to these magic ‘conduits’.
- The end was particularly interesting, Dessa is shown:
i) To have known people that worked on Thaumanova, which somehow I can’t connect with the fact that her ‘age’ is unknown, given that she doesn’t recognize the Sylvari race (hinting that she’s been in the Observatory since before the Sylvari were born). She can’t be that old if she had friends in Thaumanova.
ii)To not being able to leave Mistlock Observatory, which per se is very intriguing, added to the fact that if she tries to leave, she instantly comes back with a memory wipe. I wonder why that is (sure can be explored in future content).
iii) Ellen Kiel actually taking an interest in further expanding the true knowledge on Thaumanova besides what we’re shown in the Fractal itself, meaning this is not your conventional ‘quarantined’ living story update that will, in a vague and uncertain future, tie together in a magical and breathtaking manner.
Dredge Fractal
- I’m not really sure how to feel about this. When we loaded in, there were more mobs in the area before the 1st gate, as well as between the two gates. Is this supposed to happen?
- If someone dies while standing on top of the pressure plate, said person is kindly moved next to the plate. I can see the aim of this nice gesture, forcing people to play the game as it was intended.
- What I don’t get is why would someone take one of the hardest and most frustrating fractal options and make it even harder! I don’t want to complain too much, but seriously? After many failed attempts to open the 3rd gate, we all decided to quit because we thought the whole level was a bugfest (and it was already late).
Anyways, that’s my little insight on what I’ve experienced so far.
With Southsun people speculated it was to be the prelude to the DSD because the general theme was ‘sea creatures being driven out of their natural habitat’.
With the Molten Alliance people speculated it would be the prelude to Primordus/Jormag because the general theme was fire/something north was driving the Norn and Charr downwards.
Zephyr Sanctum was speculated to be the prelude to Kralkatorrik since the people there talked about Glint and how they were entrusted with the protection of her legacy.
Rise of Tequatl was, once again, speculated to be tied to a potential re-rise of Zhaitan, since something had to be giving power to its champion.
Now with Tower of Nightmare people have been speculating it is going to be the prelude to the Jungle Dragon since in the few preview images we’ve been given access to we see rotten plants and vine-like structures.
I think I’ve had enough (false) hints to dragon preludes to know this is not going going to be about any ED whatsoever.
Yes, with big zergs it’s harder to reach that threshold. So since it’s all about damage, either I must deal enough of it through the ram or normal attacks, but with the ram its quicker.
So I just need to normally deal damage to it (ie, if I’m an Elementalist, pop up Meteor Shower, Fire Storm, and Fiery GreatSword, rinse and repeat)?
Hey there,
How exactly does the Demolition Expert achievement works? I’ve heard and read so many things that I don’t really understand what should I do to earn it.
Is it:
i)Contribute to building the siege machine (spend supplies), even if you don’t use it when it’s finished;
ii)Have the blueprints and just place them, not spending any supplies;
iii)Actively use the Flame Ram (for instance) and deal damage, regardless if you later leave the thing and let someone else finish the job;
iv)Destroy the gate/wall while manning the ram/catapult.
So far I have 8/30 destroyed walls, and have been trying all the above. Lately I’ve concentrated on just manning the rams until the gate is busted, but I feel I that it would be more efficient to give that spot to someone with mastery.
So if the thing works on the iii) basis, that actually would take a lot of my mind.
What’s your precious insight?
Hello, don’t know if this is the proper place to do it, but anyhow:
I’ve applied for TxS in that Reddit link, about two days ago, and still haven’t got an answer. Are they still recruiting, or are they just trying to deal with the massive amount of applications, hence the waiting times. Anyway, I totally understand if that’s how it works, I’m really not trying to rush things, just curious.
Okay, I talked to an IT guy I know and he guided me through the process.
I’ve updated the BIOS and changed the RAM speed to Auto (guy said it was better that way).
I have also used MSCONFIG and shut down loads of programs that were activated during startup.
Later I’ll check if GW begins to work properly and will let you know.
Thanks for all the help!
Greetings,
I’ve been having these apparently random crashes for a few months. The game just freezes, the error message pops up and I need to restart the client.
I don’t quite remember when the issue first manifested, it was somewhere around one of the Living Story patches.
At first, the crashes would only occur when I tried to approach Living Story events. For instance, at Braham’s Homestead in Wayfarer’s Foothills, when I got too close to the actual place, the error would pop up.
Similar occurences have been happening with every patch. Whenever I try to interact with event content, there’s a fairly high possibility that I’ll get DC. Another exemple, when we had to complete several Jumping Puzzles for the Kite Baskets, I’d get frequent freezes mid J-Puzzle.
It has been getting worse. Now I get the DC’s completely randomly. Yesterday during a Fractals run and in LA. Today, twice in Metrica Province.
I’ve tried to uninstall the client, but after doing so, the problem persists. I honestly have no idea what’s causing it, my computer is brand new (not even 6 months old).
Here’s the error detailed information, as well as the dxdiag file.
Please help me, it’s starting to get frustrating to play…

I’m also in the same position as the OP.
I’ve gotten all achievements from the previous events but now I just can’t, it’s so infuriating that I’ve decided to quit GW2, simply because I’ve tried and failed every single time and when this event ends I won’t stand watching those achievements uncompleted forever. It makes me sad
Are you serious? Just because you’re thrown something that takes a little more effort to do you decide to quit the game? This wonderful game?
Honestly, people complained when we were given the Southsun one time event, saying that they didn’t have time to log in, later people complained because the Clocktower was too hard, then because the RNG didn’t reward effort, instead making players run around and kill ‘x’ mobs and light ‘y’ effigies.
Now that we are finally given a dungeon that actually takes more than zerker gear and dodge to win, people are complaining because it is too difficult? What do you want then? The game to be 100% casual? If it was that way people would just play it and then quit, which is happening to 90% of the game’s content.
This new dungeon is frustrating, nerve wrecking, demands high skill plays and team coordination. That’s what you need to get the achievements.
I might not be able to get some of them (avoid the lasers and the cannons AoE), but at the end of the event, even if I don’t get them, I’ll surely feel that the time I put into trying to get something done was more rewarding than teleporting around and mass killing holograms. I’ll feel that I had fun, I trained my map awareness, team coordination and survivability. If I get the achievements, even better. But I won’t sulk over a dungeon being ‘too difficult’. I refuse to do that, GW2 is probably the best MMO I’ve played my entire life.
Sorry if I sound too hostile, I too have the achievement OCD. It’s just that I don’t let that impair the overall playing experience. (Just between you and me, I actually missed the last achievement within the Molten Alliance chapters – I though the NPC you had to talk to wrap up the story was available until one day, and it wasn’t. I’m still annoyed as hell ><).
As promised, here is the screenshot from Snowblind Fractal. Does it look like the bottom of the Uncategorized Fractal?
Might I join you as well? I’ve never done the dungeon, so I understand if you don’t want me. I wanted to do it to watch the cinematics (yes, I’ve been restraining myself from watching them from Youtube) and get the path completion achievements.
Thanks in advance!
Hey there, Microwave here!
What really annoyed me most about the Story Quest was the final fight with Zhaitan. I know hundreds of people have already said this, but I’ve always thought that the final confrontation with the dragon that it is the center of every race’s personal story and one of the main sources of Tyria’s current problems would be more sophisticated than just stand in an airship, spam the cannons and fend off the occasional mobs.
I too would like to be able to replay the chapters from the personal story, I can’t even remember the names of most of its participants. When Faren appeared in SSCove I didn’t immediately remember he was a key figure in the primoridal quests at DR, while being a noble born.
A LFG tool would solve problems such as spamming map chat searching for people, as well as rendering the LFG.com useless (by being incorporated in the game). Sadly, it won’t solve any of the PuG’s problems, the kittens will always be present whatever system is implemented.
I’d like to think that GW2 is far from refined, and much of our concerns will actually be heard and solutions be put into motion.
Hello there,
While doing the Snowblind Fractal, after defeating the Ice Elemental, and before entering the forest, I randomly looked up and saw what appeared to be the bottom of the Uncategorized Fractal. It appeared to be a large geometrical structure accompanied by a much smaller one, also cubical in form. The whole thing was pretty far away, and I could only see gray-ish shapes.
I don’t have screenshots (using an Apple keyboard with Windows, don’t have the print screen button on it), but maybe you guys could shed some light on it?
Yes, I’d always imagined how would Orr and Arah look like before the Cataclysm. Especially after the release of Fractals and the Urban Battlegrounds, I envisaged a fractal level right before the Charr marched on Arah. The player would assume the viewpoint of an Orrian soldier fighting the Charr in the city’s streets. I’ve heard somewhere that at least three searing cauldrons were to be used to bring Arah down, so the end of the mission would be to destroy one of the cauldrons/ the Charr shamans controlling it. After hearing from Dessa that the Fractal is stabilized, and shortly afterwards escaping from it, we would get a cutscene showing Vizier Khilbron, from atop his tower, together with the scepter of Orr, finishing the final preparations for the Cataclysm, or even triggering it.
If something remotely like that were to be implemented, I’d shed tears of joy.
rules.
1: keep the boss in the middle -(as far away from all the sacrifices as possible)
2: when the bubble is up all attack to pop it.
3: take out the worms once the shield is down. then repeat 1.
4: if someone goes down, target a low level worm for them to kill and lead boss away.
extra notes: if your party has regen/ projectil shields use them, othrwise keep movingThose are bad rules. Many high DPS/fast attacking parties might choose to focus on getting some of the adds down before focusing on the shield, especially if it’s in the middle.
If it’s in the middle you also take out half the eles by hitting the boss :P
Yes, that’s what I go for, I’m pretty fond of Lightning Whip to clear out the elementals and hit the boss at the same time!
I honestly agree with everyone’s opinion, and I concede, maybe they were using an alternative strategy different than the one I’m used to.
And I’m definitely giving way much attention to a specific impolite person I came across while Fractal-ing.
I won’t try to defend my point of view, since you guys only have my side of the story, although I pretty much transcribed every word from the chat.
On the behavior issue, I always adopt a friendly-wise position towards the other group members. I say ‘hello’, ‘thanks for inviting me’, when others say something I respond, I congratulate people when they link their rare drops. I don’t complain when they make mistakes, and if they repeatedly make them, I point out what’s wrong and try to correct them (rarely do this, there’s always someone willing to do that besides me) Obviously some are friendlier than another.
For me, it is also standard to think that while running Fractals with PuGs I can’t expect advanced strategies. Trying to coordinate with 4 complete strangers takes time and patience. Therefore, I always assume a passive attitude. If someone wants to dictate strategy, I follow it. It’s not about being the best or the fastest method, for me, in Fractals and with PuGs, it’s the one that works. Might be slow and tedious, but it’s the one that gets me those relics/yellows/cores/vials/globs.
Maybe pulling the Legendary Shaman from the elementals might be the adequate strategy for high DPS groups that know what they’re doing, don’t move a lot in the map and aggro said mobs.
I remind you that other than the occasional ‘hey’, ‘lets get going’, no party member actually talked throughout the run. How was I supposed to know that they were going (IF they were) for the referred boss cornering method? No strategy was previously discussed, nothing at all. I’d like to add that I’m an Elelentalist running D/D. I also remember that while we were fighting, a warrior was dead in the middle of the lava (not near the island, pretty far away).
And since we didn’t discuss strategy/none was suggested, I went for the safe method, get rid of the elementals first. That was what everyone was doing for 2/3 of the fight. Why the sudden change of strategy (if there was even any). Was I really supposed to pick that up from the flow of the fight?
I too don’t discuss/fight/argue while fighting, I’ve had plenty of deaths in my early days because the chat window was active and spamming ‘s’ and ‘w’ instead of dodging.
I honestly hope that the increasingly difficulty will filter out all these kittens.
This thread is more of a rant, but it’s also meant to help me improve my efficiency in Fractals.
So today, I got together with this random group of people in order to do Fractals lvl 16. We didn’t know each other, but we were fairly coordinated and managed to complete the sub-levels without having to talk too much – everyone knew what they were doing.
We got to the Volcanic Fractal. Everything was going just fine, until we got to the final boss. Now, I’m not an expert, but I’m pretty much sure you are supposed to focus the boss when he enters bubble form, break it and focus the elementals immediately after, since they can easily burst you down.
That was what everyone was doing. At a certain point, after bursting the boss’s bubble, I decided to clean the elementals by myself, while everyone was fighting the boss. Note that it was positioned at a remote corner of the rock island, and the remaining elementals, about 10, were in the opposite corner. I stopped attacking the shaman and focused on the adds.
That’s when the party leader went mental. He had not said anything to me in the past hour, then he suddenly said ‘are you even going to fight?’.
I replied ‘must kill the adds first’.
He replied ‘You must be kidding me’.
I rebutted ‘Well, you must have never done this level before, it’s common knowledge that you kill the adds after the bubble is broken’.
He said ‘Ok, byes’
And proceeded to expel me from the party. It was the sub-level before the Jade Maw one. I was extremely annoyed and frustrated.
I whispered to him asking why did he expel me, he said I was trolling the whole dungeon run, didn’t attack the boss and didn’t focus the bubble’.
I didn’t even talk to him since the beginning of the run! Let alone troll? Also, what would I gain in trolling a fractals run? I’m not a masochist!
I was pretty much kitten ed of with his attitude, so I said something of the sort ‘son, I’ve been doing this level dozens of times, and I’m pretty much sure that’s the correct strategy. You just wasted a big chunk of my night, had an incorrect attitude towards me in the dungeon and couldn’t provide with a solid argument to why did you expel me, so I reported you’.
He then proceeded to ‘threaten’ me to stop whispering him, or I would be reported.
Needless to say, it was the first time I blocked someone.
But seriously, did I do anything that wrong to deserve being kicked out? I mean, I didn’t even die once the whole run! And the guy just says ‘ok, bye’ and shoots me off?
I’ve never had problems with the GW2 community, everyone was pretty much more or less friendly, but this guy just brought up my homicidal tendencies.
(edited by joaoantunes.5367)
It’s probably bugged, again…
Give it a few hours and it will turn back to normal.
My only advice to you is just to keep playing. At first, I too despised the game, all those Karka running around like crazy. After completing all achievements, I still hate the game, but just slightly less. Note that it is possible to finish all achievements in one day.
For the Crab grabber, I believe each time you earn 3 points for keeping the crab, you earn 1 achievement point. This means you don’t need to actually grab the crab 300 times.
For the crab stealer, there’s no tricks here, keep a constant pressure on the current crab holder. If you see several people rushing to the crab, position yourself right beside it and wait for someone to grab it, steal it immediately after.
Crab champion and the other one shouldn’t be a major concern, you’ll most likely get them while doing the first two. Bear in mind that the one that requires you to be tha last person standing while holding the crab doesn’t mean that you should be the holder when the timer hits 00:00. The description is quite misleading: it means you need to be the holder while every single player is knocked down by karka. This I found to be the most difficult one to get. I got it completely randomly, so I don’t have any specific insight to give you.
Just keep playing and you’ll start to get the hang of it. Use the Southsun ponch while holding the crab to regenerate HP and stamina, use the fishing pole (with a clear line of sight) to steal the crab, plank’s 2nd skill to get rid of large groups of people.
Most of all, keep playing, it’s just a matter of time, believe me. The game is 90% luck and 10% skill.
