Well of Gravity rename suggestion

Just a quick thing here. I saw the live stream of the Chronomancer and while most of the names of skills were related to time there was one that stuck out as strange to me, “Well of Gravity.” While the name does fine explaining what the skill’s function is I feel naming it this is a mistake. I think something along the lines of Singularity, Singularity Point, or if you must have the word “well” in the title perhaps Singularity Well.

A singularity is defined as a point at which a function takes an infinite value, especially in space-time when matter is infinitely dense, as at the center of a black hole.

I feel that these names better fit the theme of time magic than well of gravity. Another reason I think you should consider renaming the skill is to leave room for, and save references to gravity for future specializations like a geomancer for the elementalist or some kind of gravity magic specialist down the road that would have lots of knock downs, floats (on ground), pulls, pushes, slows, etc.

Agreed, Well of eternity sounds timely, calamity sounds like an unpleasant time, recall sounds like a reversal of time and procog a glimps forward in time.

action I’m not sure where the time pun comes in, but gravity certainly is way off the bat for a chronomancy name.

Well of fluctuation, singularity, collapse, slip-space, reverse etc could be better suited names as they relate in some way to time in a function that could affect a person’s position.

Would be nice to see if they change this, well of gravity is a cute name but it really doesn’t fit the named theme of a chronomancer. Sounds like a time wizard suddenly affecting something that isn’t exactly time but rather force like as you said a geomancer.

Heck uroboros well or well of uroboros could also suit better as the definition of this word is “a circular symbol depicting a snake, or less commonly a dragon, swallowing its tail, as an emblem of wholeness or infinity.”

No matter how many times you go around you end up at the same place, much like being pulled to a central location.

I wonder if they will change the name or not, but i agree it could do with a more time oriented title.

All those are great suggestions! I am hoping we can create enough noise with this post that maybe something happens. HoT is still in development and hopefully if the community agrees with us they will in fact change it.

I belive it is a play on the term: Gravity Well

From Wiki: A gravity well or gravitational well is a conceptual model of the gravitational field surrounding a body in space – the more massive the body, the deeper and more extensive the gravity well associated with it. The Sun is very massive, relative to other bodies in the Solar System, so the corresponding gravity well that surrounds it appears “deep” and far-reaching.

I agree that effects wise the name works, however Chronomancy should have time flavored skills and while gravity, like speed interacts with time I would still argue that gravity should be delegated to another specialization rather than the time magic specialist.

More pictures of the problem. I find this really odd.

Shameless bump of justice and winning! I would like to see if any other players feel the same way I do about the home areas and NPCs in combat

Home Areas and NPCs in combat

I wasn’t sure where to put this, but suggestions seemed like a good place to do so. I love the game, but there are two areas which I have been slightly disappointed in, the lack of an evolving home area, and the incompetence of some NPCs throughout personal story.

First the home area, I have been running a Human Noble Mesmer (Lvl 74) who never recovered his sister’s body and a Charr Ash Legion Thief (lvl 20) whose sire was a loyal soldier. I check both their home areas frequently and I have to say I have seen a disappointing lack of change. I would like to see NPCs talking about my deeds (not something generic like “why do you get to see all the action”)! If I recover a relic why doesn’t it go on display? When I join an order why are there not representatives there to say hi? These are things I would like to see added to the home areas.

Now on the the NPCs in combat, while in personal story I do think the player should be the star of the show it does feel odd when I am fighting next to Rytlock Brimstone or Logan Thackery and they just stand there and let the monsters (that were clearly balanced for having a working NPC) maul me to death. I mean Rytlock and Logan are supposed to be a fairly big deal yet I feel like the fame has gone to their head if they are just going to stand there and let their companion die because they don’t feel like fighting. Then there is Clawspur, who likes to talk about too many knives on one job can over complicate things and then does a spinning attack where he throws a bunch of knives around and aggros every mob in the vicinity. I mean I am fairly good at the game, but fighting a literal army of ghosts and drakes is not something I want to do regularly. So please fix NPC behavior, it is making somethings more difficult than they should be.

If you want to play a healer run a Water Elementalist and use a staff, almost every ability on that weapon is a heal. However the reason we don’t need a dedicated healer is now everyone can not only heal, we can DODGE and most classes have weapon skills to block /evade/become invincible for a few seconds. When you have all these tools at your disposal we don’t need healing on the same level as we would in WoW or GW1

Revin Nill, Guild Leader of Happy Birthday to the Ground (Fort Aspenwood) here, to let the community know about a fun guild that is looking to expand its roster. We already have a guild bank and an armorer and we are very much a pvx guild. We have done multiple dungeon runs and frequent WvW along with having a few crafters already maxed out. Most important though is we are trying to create a fun environment to play Guild Wars 2 and have a group of people you can reach out to when you need help.

Post here or message me in game if you would be interested in joining.
