Just make a tarball and let the community handle the rest.
Valve used a DEB file for Steam and it worked on most distros within a day or so.
The “universal installer” thing is a bullkitten excuse.

You guys are arguing about what distro they should target like ANet decided to port the game after all.
Did I miss some good news ?

Well, it’s not exactly a port. More like a DirectX game wrapped in a (kitten-y) translation layer.

^ This.
Using a D3D wrapper, imho, was a kitten idea, very unprofessional.
They are probably not even considering a Linux port, but honestly, I don’t think I would use a wrapped client anyways.

Steam for Linux is growing fast though, I haven’t logged in Windows for weeks thanks to this.
Looks like we’re finally getting some games, too bad GW2 isn’t one of them :/

So, how about something like a Kickstarter program for a Linux client?

That’s a good idea, I know I would pay.
Valve is doing a great job porting their games, but it would be nice to have some MMORPGs as well u.u .
