How about changing the mechanic a bit and instead subtract from your completion percentage for the task, or even reset it altogether when you killed a mommy? That way you have to dodge her attacks while you subdue her children. It still seems a bit depressing, but at least no one (aside from us, I presume) are getting hurt.

I am glad to see I’m not the only one who (kind of) enjoyed this boss, although I only beat him after completely shredding every stitch of armour as I was too dense to notice the little kitten smotherer at first! After noticing him and seeing that I could kill him in one shot, I then got frustrated when he would go invulnerable and it took me a while to realize I had to be infused with whatever it was I had to be infused with.

Honestly, I’d far prefer to see more stuff with quirky mechanics that I get to figure out on the fly than more “is it’s name in red? kill it” material.

Why no to precision runes? Wouldn’t you want to maximize the critical chance? Is it because the crit chance is high enough and you would be better off putting the effort elsewhere, like say power?

Do mini’s count for Ranger runes?

I played a ranger for a little while and didn’t really like hanging back with a range weapon all the time. Then I tried thief and it became one of my mains. It’s a lot of fun zipping in with stealth, dealing big damage on a couple of hits and then dancing out quick because your armour is too crappy to stick it out in a toe-to-toe.

Like the previous respondant said, feel free to try both – it really doesn’t take too long for you to get a feel for the abilities, weaknesses, and play style of a class. Learning how other classes operate will help you in PvP and WvW as well, so it’s a win-win.

I sympathize – I was popping in for about an hour a day and camping indigo hoping to catch Demolisher and finally got it last night. It will happen.

I’m a pretty regular PVE player (four 80’s) looking to learn a bit more about WvW. I know that Storm Bluff Island isn’t a haven for WvW, but I don’t want to burn hard-earned gold/gems on switching servers. Also, I don’t much care about the competition, I just want to take my thief out for some raids and roaming.

Is your open to those new to WvW? I’ve played a fair bit (~7000 AP), but all PVE and I’d love to learn more about WvW.

I would love to join your group if you’ve still got space. I am 48 and have two kids who also play. We have a guild together with a few real-life friends, so I can’t commit to a 100% rep guild, but I presume (hope) that by “casual” you don’t require 100% rep.

I think almost all of us who play the game and write here love it, but you wouldn’t know it from the tone of so many of the posts on the forum. I browse here only from time to time because of the negativity (“Anet nerfed this”, “That is over-powered”). I’ve come to accept that the nature of these forums is to tend to draw attention to problems rather than say when stuff is good (though that does happen, too).

I’m really happy to read someone who is as happy with the game as I am. For the record, I’m biased – I main an Asuran guardian and thief.

I was all set to blame my crash on my crappy internet provider, but it looks like it was everyone. I lost out on the marionette, and it was looking pretty good this time!

Thanks for the tips, guys. I am in the same boat as the OP; I’ve had a problem balancing damage dealing with staying alive with my newbie Guardian and these tips will really help.

I love that with certain play-styles armour is optional!

Hey HGW, I’ll be online latish this evening (post 9 pm Atlantic time), so hopefully I see you online. If not, then another time.

As a form of introduction, I’m a married father of two girls (both who play GW2 but are officially too young ) and I have a wife who is very tolerant of my computer and board-gaming nerdishness.

I try to get online three or four nights a week, so I’m a pretty frequent player. Right now I’m focused on exploring the entire world, though I’m only up to 57% as of last night. I like tapping the daily events list to earn laurels, which I have been using to buy items, so anyone who likes to do that will have a friend in me. I haven’t done any dungeon crawling yet, owing to my lack of a steady group, but I would love to get into that, as it was one of the things I really enjoyed in GW1.

Anyway, more later when we meet in-game. (I hope!)

I’m a pretty regular player with a bit of PvE experience looking to expand my gaming and to get into a friendly, casual group that wants to do dungeons, PvP, and maybe even WvW. I played GW1 for quite a few years and have been at this one for a little while.

I was in a guild that hopped a few times to different servers, chasing that perfect WvW team and I got sick of wasting gold on gems to keep up the hopping.

I play generally in the evenings in the Atlantic time zone, should that matter.

You guys still looking for members? I’m looking to join a guild in SBI. I will even cliff dive for friends.

I am interested in joining up if you guys still have room! I was in a guild that was really into WvW, but that meant they jumped servers seemingly endlessly, and following them was getting tiresome. It sounds like you guys are doing PvE as well, and that’s what I’m more interested in, so you might stick to one server for a time, and frankly I like that!
