@ Blood Red
Perhaps my use of the word Punishment was too strong of a descriptor. Really what I described is not out of the scope of events as they are now, but what I want to try to get them to do is be used in a way to make interesting and drastic changes to map zones based on player contribution.
Right now when a zone has very little to no player contribution life goes on as if nobody cares. Those tamini, dredge, grawl, skritt can attack those villages they normally do a BILLION times with ZERO adverse affect because once one player walks up that silly event is still running like nobody was ever there. Worst case you may have a few dead npc’s that need reviving or a shack that needs rebuilding. Then life in Tyria is back on track and nobody knows anything bad ever happened.
What I am suggesting is just an extension of the normal dynamic events such that you have a firm grasp on the fact that if players do not contribute in an area, things will change for the worse. Whats that can’t run a champ train in Queensdale because the Tamini own the entire map because nobody has done the events in east queensdale in 4 hours, well i guess the train needs to reroute and do some tamini killing to get things back on track then. Your server hasn’t beaten Tequatl in a week…. do you think a dragon is just going to up and fly off when he isn’t defeated?! HELL NO! He needs to raze that map to the ground, corrupt everything in sight, destroy every structure on the map and keep doing so until players decide hey we should kill that dragon already.
To dwell on that example for a second… I hate Tequatl, but in a good way I suppose. I hate him and the fight because I want to do it but I have not put forth the effort I need to in order to defeat him because I don’t think it is worth it. Personally its because the reward sounds too small for the effort, but also because I have to go out of my way to organize with others, more than 4 others and outside wvw, in an open world event to do a boss fight. But if he were to take over that map because my server never fights him, I would go check out what new different events and big fight had to be done to try to reset everything. If only for the fact that is new and different and could be interesting.
I would think such drastic changes would lure people in at first just like any other new changes to content would, because well it would be new and fresh. Its not like you would not be rewarded for overcoming these obstacles, not at all. You would still be getting loot for killing things. Im sure players would manipulate what happens just like any other aspect of the game, “hmmm if we fail this event10X, we get THIS event, and that ones more fun” or more rewarding. But what it would definitely not be is the same old empty mapped staleness I believe. Because really, why are the empty maps empty? No easy fast loot, and because they are old and boring. Loot is an easy fix, because loot is getting close to equal no matter what you do in the game over a period of equal time. The new content, which is what this would be, addresses the other problem.
This isn’t even really something different or new for the game when you stand back and look at it. It is just a viewpoint of a way to refresh all old maps content with new content in order to stimulate the existing playerbase that is stuck in their bored daily routine, save for that 2 day period when they run around to do new LS content.
Kinda sorta related to your second thought…
Anet has always thrown around their “dynamic events” phrase left and right. But really they aren’t so dynamic when you can count on them to do the same thing over and over and over again. Like right now I bet you can go into snowden drifts and find the same events in the same state they are always in because nobody EVER goes there except for map completion on alts, or if you are new.
But what if there was a definite punishment for not succeeding in even the most trivial dynamic event? In wayfarer foothills if someone is not around to stop the stampeding minotaurs they shouldn’t just run in circles for hours on end until someone shows up and single handedly kills them all. After a certain amount of time that an event runs without being beaten, or if an event fails certain number of times in a row it should grow into a an event which DEMANDS player attention or the consequences would be actually consequential.
For example, I will stick with wayfarers foothills because I can remember a lot of those events offhand easily.
In wayfarer foothills the maw gets more than enough attention, this is good it is the big meta event after all. But what would happen if nobody ever collected enough meat for Gareth’s lodge? Or worse, if someone succeeded in the meat collection and killing the animal for the head mount BUT nobody ever stopped the bears from rampaging through Victors Point? Right now the bears just sit there waiting, and nothing punishing ever comes of it. What if the bears started to take over? Victors Point suddenly becomes uninhabited and the entire area between the mountain to the south and Twinspur Haven to the north is impassable without defeating HORDES of veteran bears. Not necessarily this example, but what if some other punishment event got so out of hand that it threatened something outside that map? What if the Maw meta event is not progressed? What is to stop the Shaman from summoning some horrific effigy that will attack Hoelbrak?! Imagine having to free Hoelbrak from Svanir control!
Each map could be split into zones such that these punishing failure chains do not overlap but serve to lock down large areas of the map as punishment for players not keeping the map in peaceful operating order. This would open the door for new events related to old familiar content, more chained events, and a way to force people to re-engage old content to get to what we have gotten used to as the “safe” same old map. I would like to think that with proper scaling event these punishment events could be beaten back to the safe event mode by a single person but it should be something that brings people back to our wasteland zones that are empty, and shakes things up in corners of zones that are void of life due to lack of rewards.
Have been having guild issues for at least one patch now, if not the last two. Can not do anything with guild functions in Lions Arch. Cannot access guild bank, even though its fully upgraded. Cannot change message of the day, even though I’m the guild creator/leader. Cannot see upgrades queued and running.
But, go anywhere else WvW, any other map, no problems at all. Same problem for everyone in the guild.
zzzzzzzzz gg anet
ps. just thought I’d put this out here for those that don’t remember. Once upon a time FA was a crappy server. Then when they announced the closure of free transfers, they got a huge influx of fairweathers and bandwagoners. To this day, that’s all they are. They wouldn’t know what loyalty was if it kicked them in the kitten. SoS and CD are the losers of Transfer Wars, and FA was a big fat grubby winner. So remember that, boys and girls, while you are fighting out there.
Well don’t we have a horribly biased and blinded point of view, lets actually look back and remember shall we.
CD Started out at a higher rank period, having nothing to do with game play at all. After 8 or so weeks from launch we leap frogged you and never looked back. So we were a bad server? I think not. At the begining CD was slightly better than us, slightly. And I only remember this because I hated them with a steaming passion because they gave us the best fights EVER at the time, but we just couldnt beat them yet. Until TC became our rival CD bore that honor.
Oh noes transfers…… Keep riding that excuse, lets see how far that gets you. FA still has a rather large core of pure FA players. And not even that matters, every server deals with what they have.
Having said all that, I had some of if not the best fights yesterday morning when I finally had 3 guildmates in WvW with me for the first time in ages. The planets must have been aligned or something because we got to fight so many even and close number fights in CD and SOS BL’s. I have not gotten that excited since the 24 hour matches. My one guildmate who wvw’s all the time must have caught the bug too because even when we were fighting thieves who were just trying to kill my under lvl’s engy, he was enjoying himself.
Can’t wait till the sun comes up here so we can get some more small fights going.

Long thread is long, but very good and I sincerely hope this gets read in its entirety due to the many constructive thoughts presented so far. I read virtually all posts, skipped some when I was eating, and then went back and read the OP.
I absolutely can sympathize with the Op’s feelings as many others have. This is a fantastic game, but feels like it is being slowly diluted into a boring cycle of new flashy stuff “omg have to do this for achievement points and only have 2 weeks to do so!!” Or " omg i have to check dulfy so I can figure out how to do this new stuff" rather than walk around explore and enjoy the amazing looking game world that has been created.
I had a plan months ago already, that I have long since deviated from but will hopefully pick up again soon. Level one of each class to 80, near complete. Then, the fun part, explore every zone to its fullest. Do every event, search every nook and cranny, master every corner of the known map. And coming from someone who spends more time in Wvw than anywhere else that is a tall order. Then Living story started. And I will tell you waht, its a big empty world out there when an update drops and you are exploring and everyone else is doing living story.
So what really boggles my mind about these “Living Story” updates is…… Why in gods name wouldn’t you use these events to pull people into zones that get ZERO attention anymore?!? Remember when you first started playing, everyone was low level and ran around and did even the most small mundane events together and everything was interesting. Each opening zone was PACKED. Then when you went to the next zone because you had leveled up and felt you needed more challenge, OMG that zone was packed too. Imagine that, people were advancing at the same rate and experienced content together. Obviously this is unsustainable, because somewhere you hit a wall where everyone reaches their goals and then has to find something to do pretty much. I feel like Im already deviating from my posts goals.
Please focus these living story’s to achieve something. Either contribute something useful to the world with new dynamic events, augment existing ones in interesting ways ( if say nobody succeeds at so and so event after 10 repetitions there are DIRE world results), or use them as tools to guide people in different directions, (dead zones that need populating for example)
These flash in the pan events are doing nothing but vomiting rewards at people and turning it into a race to collect as much garbage as you can. If i wanted to zerg and just collect loot and do nothing with it, I would go play diablo 2.
Did anyone else find it hilarious that this update included less flashy effects in big groups, and yet there you find yourself in a PVE event reminiscent of old wvw culling -fests where you cant even see what you are attacking, instead you see nothing but flashing lights and particle effects.
Or is anyone laughing at how great wallets are, and yet sad that we even need them. God forbid everything just cost gold, ok maybe a few tokens here or there but really does every dungeon need its own currency. and then fractals need their own, oh yeah dailies that needs a currency too, oh wait living story……… A wallet is no longer big enough, I need an in game accountant now please.
Ah yes fractals, I forgot about them, just like everyone else has right after they got their ring drops and stopped doing them. Because after you do the same map ten billion times, yes, it gets boring. This is the one place where I wish you would apply the way living story is being used. Put those teams to good use making a new fractal every 2 months or so. I mean really, its kind of what I figured fractals were. Short story dungeons that relate to parts of the open world but stand alone like dungeons. This is the type of content that should have lots of new stuff every few weeks and have old stuff rotate out for a while then back in.
I’ll stop there because now I have even lost myself and what I wanted to say.
Even if there is a group requirement to ‘unlock’ the orb you still have the issue of a single player picking it up and flying it away.
A better system would utilize NPC’s that carry the orb to its target location.
so, a dolyak run? Only if someone can issue stop/go commands to the dolyak- maybe commanders only
I love where this idea could go. The old orb was great because it wasn’t a stationary fight like a tower or keep. If instead of the orb being an object, lets say its a capture the NPC commander type thing. Enemy team has to get to the old orb location att he top of the map. Then defeat him and the large army of lvl 82 npc’s gaurding him plus any human players defending him. Then they have to escort him to wherever they can jail him and hold him ransom. And they pretty much ransom him for points from your borderland. That would take care of my biggest concern with the old orbs aside from the hacking stuff… the buffs stunk.

My friend had this exact same problem because he was playing on his lunch time and had to literally run out the door mid instance to go back to work. He ended up using a different character to go to divinities reach and pretty much start over. Once he got back to LA he stayed on character two to get the scanner and finish that instance. After having done the entire thing correctly and having scanned all 5 ppl he was able to pick back up again with his normal character like normal.
Norn female ranger, really huge ranger.
fractal lvl 4.
got maw to low health where his attacks change. had a mass tentacle spawn, then bang, got downed with no icon over my head. was on skype and nobody called it out, and we call it out on every guy on every shot cuz some of us suck at dodging.
in total i probably got targeted about a dozen times and maybe 3 downed me with no target. but what was a thousand times worse, some targeted me but did not show the actual shot, so i could not dodge it. you would get the icon, be nowhere near a crystal and be staring, waiting to dodge, nobody calls out dodge and BAM your on the ground. no graphic no sound just grounded.
your build link is not working for me, comes up bad link. build sounds very useful to me, please check on your link.
Now random fyi stuff for tickets. the email you give when starting your ticket will get responses sent to it, and you will see the same response on gw2.com when you check on your support account. so basically you can just pick to use one or the other to go back and forth with. at first this is not clear nor is it explained, but as soon as you get a responce and respond you will see that everything just kind of shows up in both places regardless of how you responded.
if you havent read already do not create more than one ticket for the same problem, from what i have read this will only slow things down more as that ticket gets merged to your previous ones, basically you are added more point and click work to the problem.
Now part two of this post…. what in the world started all of this in the first place?! I can only assume there was a bug or something with the forced password change stuff. and where I dont see that happening again hopefully, it will at the very least bug the ever living hell out of me to not know what started this problem in the first place.
Firstly, thank you to any and all who resolved my login issues. You can imagine the frustration of sitting at home witht the flu and not being able to play when you are awake all night and cannot do other stuff because real life stuff will wake the house up.
Now my issues were greatly compounded by the fact that I, some time in the past, cleared out my email and thereby lost my serial code. If you have your digital receipt for your gw 2 purchase WRITE DOWN YOUR SERIAL CODE NOW and store it somewhere safe. Given that I have about 6 pages of codes written down at my computer for all kinds of games I can only imagine I wrote this one down on a scrap paper and lost that page.
Now the reason for this post is not just thanks and self deprication, but to try to see what the root cause was in the first place AND to give others a what to expect when they go through this, as that coudl make the process a lot easier.
My issue started when I went to login and the launcher directed me to the gw2.com page to login due to the mandatory password change. When I got their I entered my old password to try to log in assuming that the intent here was to have me log in and go to my settings and just change my password. problem being that my old password did not let me log in. So now I cannot log into the game, nor the gw2.com account AND forum.
Thankfully your support ticket system has you set up a support account which at that point is your only means of communication other than 3rd party websites, such as trying to get a hold of someone via gw2guru’s forum, which i tried.
So I found myself not able to post in the forum in account issues to try to clear this up, but i see others saying they have issues, which are attributed to the retry wall in most repsonses, posting up saying they need help. Well, how can they be logging in to ask for help on the forum in the first place if the login is the same for the game and this forum?! What am I missing here? I could not do either, I would like to think I am wrong and that you can have two seperate passwords but I do not see that option anywhere.
Anyhow, your last bastion of hope being the support ticket I started one. Here is what to expect, and what to have handy that worked in my case.
I started my ticket expecting it to take a few days based on the thread titled something like tickets 3 days and older. Luckily it took less time and the only reason it took that long I assume is due to me not having my serial code. Reason being, any and all password reset roads will ask you for your serial code. without your serial code as far as I cna tell you WILL be creating a support ticket and they, again as far as I can tell, cannot ever get you your serial code again.
Now copy paste from the first contact I got for my ticket I was/ you will be asked for this:
Since you do not posses the Serial Code, please provide us with the following information for us to locate the account depending where you purchase the game from:
1. Digital Copy of the game directly from us on this website: https://buy.guildwars2.com/en/
-Email Address used to make the purchase
-Order ID
-Last four digits (ONLY) of the credit/debit card used to make the purchase (even if this credit/debit card is no longer active after switching banks)
-PayPal® Transaction ID or the Invoice ID associated with the purchase
2. Retailer: Contact them through their Customer Service department with your receipt, and they will be able to provide the Serial Code to you. Or provide:
-List of Characters on the account.
- Date of Account Creation (within 72 hours)
-Display Name (It will be a name along with a 4 digit number)
3. Physical game box from a store: Serial Code will be located inside the box. Please provide a picture of the Serial Code.
Now I bought the game direct digital form this site. and lucky for me I used paypal so i could copy the receipt from my paypal transactions and send them that during our ticket back and forth. And not even 5 hours later I am all squared away and playing again with no losses. So if you lost your serial code but HAVE a recipt be it paper or digital I stress greatly that you safegaurd that proof of purchase greatly as that like any real world buy is truly your best proof of purchase obviously. Specifically what I did was use the win7 snipping tool to copy direct from my paypal transaction history and attached that to my eamil response for the ticket.

Will someone help our guild Charr?….he hasn’t stopped crying since the tragic event that unfolded with his Aspenwood love….
I can help….. Cuz that was me on my gaurdian, and that was hilarious.
A little background of what happened before the video even. I started my gaurdian alt over the weekend but my frined, the tiny FA asuran thief that you can see in the video, has just fallen in love with playing thief and we both WvW together every morning so I figured what the heck, I’ll WvW with my gaurdian even though its only like lvl 25 or so.
Your charr buddy, he whooped my butt handily a few minutes prior to our dancing. So, having just died I respawned with my asura thief buddy and we went back to the tower where your zerg was assaulting but your guild was pretty much sitting on the rock. And i couldnt resist. I waved, he waved… and it was on. The armor came off, and as soon as I got on the rock and started dancing and wasn’t immediatly killed, I was having too much fun to stop. And when his charr knelt down, it just looked too cool to sit beside him, I was in pain from laughing.
I was surprised it went on as long as it did before someone killed me, but knew it was over as soon as the zerg came out of the tower. And I understand, you couldnt have your server finding out about his true FA love.
Thank you for the excellent video. I have checked this thread in the off chance that someone was recording.

(you really dont want to know about this guild, trust me)
Figured it out by trying to login until i made a mistake and it worked, and i paid attention to my mistake…… So my advice never buy your friend a game cuz when he misspells his own email address it will drive both of you crazy.
To actually be helpful though, you do in fact get an email when you buy the game, then again when you register which should have been the clue the tipped me off from the start cuz he never got a second email.
Ok, I think I have it figured out maybe but am not sure how to get it working. He definately screwed up something with his account name or password, but we cannot figure out which and how. He has tried to login in countless times and then I tried for him and bam, first try it logged in, but since I havent been able to. And knowing how badly I type when I am not concentrating I am sure I spelled something wrong.
So how do we firgure out what he spelled wrong.? I am assuming he spelled his email wrong seeign as how he has not gotten any further emails from arenanet since he registered. But if I am wrong and its his password well then that woudl take forever to figure out. And he has tried to do the reset pw thing, but i forget why he said that wasnt working.
Not sure where to go again lol. Can anyone confirm that you do get an email confirmation once you register your account? is the email adress case sensitive when you try to login maybe?
Bought my friend a copy of GW2 early since it was on sale and he loves stuff like the free mini he’ll get with the offer going right now. Problem is he finished the purchase and registered from his email but he has not been able to login at all.
From what i can discern over skype he got an email and a serial code then followed the email instructions to register it, but then when he went to login on gw2.com it tells him accoutn name is not valid. I havbe had him try to change his pw, and all the stuff it suggest in the support stuff to no avail. If he tries to reregister it tells him his serial is already registered so its like it worked but he just cant login.
He has never received any confirmation emails or anything after the first one he got, which doesnt soudn right, but i havent done this since release so i dont really remember how many emaisl you get.
Where does he go from here? There is no live support, he has submitted a ticket and not gotten any emails. Obviously he put in his email right because he got the initial purchase email btu has not gotten any since. Been a pretty bad waste of an afternoon that he was gonna try to get into the game during.
