Not a member yet but i am strongly considering transferring to NSP to be with these guys. On voice coms during non raid times they are fun to talk to and good people. Seeing their raid videos they look composed and organized. From my perspective they seem like a guild that blends the best of both Hardcore play and a Casual atmosphere. Great Guild!
Well said!

What ever happened to Fubbles??
We don’t know he went on walk about. RIP Fubbles
Your guild seems good but I must admit I’m a little intimidated by your application. I understand some of the questions but others seem more hard core driven such as videos of game play, WvW rank, etc. I’m all about playing at my best, team synergy and fighting till the very end. But your application makes you seem hard core.
I understand that sentiment. Really the application is set up the way it is so that we can get a glimpse at the type of player you are. We don’t want players who only want to halfheartedly be in a guild like RNG, which is in part why the application is so complicated. Essentially if you take the time to fill it out, and demonstrate that you at least have a basic grasp of a class / playstyle then there is a good chance you will get an invite. The video is not a mandatory thing, most people don’t give us one and that’s totally ok.
The difference between our guild and many hardcore guilds is that we don’t mandate attendance to our raids over RL obligations, nor do we kick or abuse members for underperforming. But if more experienced members judge a particular person is having a tough time, we WILL approach said person and give advice and suggest new ways to practice or approach their class. If you communicate, listen to the driver, participate in the raids you can make, and demonstrate an interest in improving your and the group’s play, you can only succeed in RNG.

Greetings! After a several month hiatus, our guild is reforming on Northern Shiverpeaks. If you are interested in a dedicated WvW guild with a strong community, read up the following post! If you are interested in joining the guild, you can apply here. Feel free to send me a pm on enjin or in game at logs.1493 with any questions. You can also contact vluhdalt.2715, our GM.
About Us:
Roll Initiative is a tight-knit performance focused community currently focusing on “blob busting” as well as fighting even numbered groups in WvW. We consider ourselves “semi hardcore” in that we have required builds, and we critique personal performance, but we also understand that real life always comes first. Our players are active in most timezones (NA, late NA, OCX, SEA), and our raids typically span from NA to early OCX. As a community, our core has been playing together for more than two years, and we have developed a close, friendly culture in that time. As a new member, you should never feel like you’re just a chess piece for the leadership as we try and get people engaged in the community right from the start.
Guild History:
Roll Initiative was founded in October of 2014, though our history extends much further back. Our core community was formed by the merge of the guild [DR] – Dragonriders with several members of [LOST] Shiverpeaks Search and Rescue (which some here may remember). After playing together as part of [dr] for some time, a decision was made among the PvP core of Dragonriders to form a new guild entirely. Thus Roll Initiative was born. We played on Blackgate between November 2014 and May 2015, eventually transferring to Magumma. Shortly after this we decided to take a break from the game until the Heart of Thorns expansion had a release date. Due to certain changes in the culture of T3 (the GvG guild flood), we decided to move down to T4 and chose NSP as our home.
What is “Semi-Hardcore”:
Essentially, this means that every member of the guild is expected to do the following:
- Participate in Guild Raids when able to (if you are online during a raid time, no excuses needed for RL obligations)
- Accept constructive criticism. We critique our members in order to perform as well as we can, a member must understand that these are not meant as personal insults, merely to improve our overal play. We will NOT remove someone from the guild for “bad play” as long as they show they are willing to improve and will listen to advice and suggestions
- Bring your focus to all raids. When we’re in combat, bear down and listen to the driver.
- Play builds that correspond to our specific needs and be willing to work for the appropriate gear and consumables
- Participate in the community! We are all a friendly bunch, even that kitten Chuck.
- Respect other members and abide by our guild rules (ie. no racism)
This may all sound pretty intense, so I would like to add a disclaimer. Outside of actual raid combat we are all very laid back, and many members will go out of their way to help you with various things (whether they are game/guild related or really anything in general).
Our Drivers:
Zedez Angelfire:
The master tactician and former driver of [DR], driving regularly in Guild Wars for the first time since Fall 2013. Stay tight on Zed, and you’ll find yourself magically missing all of the enemies damage even though it feels like you’re running through the maelstrom. Zed will be driving for the NA timezone Here is a sample of what we were able to do following Zedez in [DR].
Saber:
The main driver for RNG since its inauguration, Saber is that kind of driver that gets our opponents to label us as having 3X as many people as we actually run with. Saber is our NA PST and early OCX guru. A sample of Sabers style is below.
IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN JOINING RNG, WE WILL HAVE WEEKLY OPEN RAIDS THAT ANYONE IS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE IN

-1 for just one simple reason…
even SPvP with its 5v5 have queue time problems (sometimes even 5+ minutes), if someone really think that similar system with a 20v20 deathmatch could work, he is a dreamer…
but I wouldn’t be against an option to set the custom arena in SPvP to 20v20 so those people can do in-house battles in a private environment
You’re right, it would be very tough to get a que system on this scale to always be populated with guilds. There are ways to get a large scale que to work, but we don’t really need to rely on a queuing system.
Currently the biggest issue and reason the GvG scene has gone stale is the inability of guilds in different WvW tiers to fight each other. Being able to schedule a GvG with a guild regardless of server through an in game mechanic would do wonders for the community. This could be done with a large arena map using the existing arena infrastructure, but then you would also have a lack of build diversity due to the simplified build system in sPvP.
I’ve always enjoyed playing casual/friendly scrims. A streamlined process to have these more casual GvGs would improve my enjoyment of the game tenfold.
The problem that many people have with the continued support with sPvP over the community’s 20v20 “GvG” is that even with this continuous support by Arenanet there are still only small amounts of people that are actually competitive in that scene compared to the GvG scene. A stream today (Chemsorly TA vs USA) wasn’t hyped, has no cash prize, and didn’t even contain an American side that in all honestly didn’t even belong in the same OS as TA had close to 900 viewers. Many of the GvG guild players from the past have stopped playing and could easily have made the number of viewers reach much more than 1000 if it was hyped up or contained guilds of equal skill levels. It’s a win win for both Arena Net and the community. There is so much money to be made in this from the GvG players alone. I have bought 2 items in the gem store since the game has come out, but if GvG related items came out I guarantee I would purchase much, much more items from the gem store.
Although 20v20 doesn’t seem to have a lot of cohesion. I can’t even begin to describe the amount of hours and theory crafting that goes into making a guild successful at the top level. I have been in NS, Night Shift for almost 2 years now. The amount of time put in from each player to make everything work is definitely something worth paying attention to. On the surface it may not look as “esports” or marketable as sPvP, but I can guarantee if it was a supported game mode with proper arenas, ladders, and options to observe a GvG going on at any moment, it would be insanely popular and incredibly marketable. Watch any of the videos people have linked. The cohesion at the top level is something truly special and if rewarded I can only imagine how much better everything could get.
Absolutely the right idea here.
The amount of work that hardcore WvW guilds put in to theorycrafting and practicing is unparalleled by everyone except the top tier of sPvP teams. We’re all here because this game has THE SINGLE BEST combat system for large scale PvP that there has ever been.
We’ve played this game for 3 years without in game reward or developer recognition, and unfortunately this will continue because Arenanet is set on their vision of a massive PvE community that funds the game while struggling to pull viewers away from true esport MOBAS. We seem to be the ugly duckling of the GW2 community.
But OP is 100% right about the missed market. Look at the number of people who know and greatly respect the names TA, NS, Agg, Syn, HoW, Red Guard, and many many more compared to Abjured. Look at how many guilds aspire and work hard to compete with them. Look at the MASSIVE community WvW guilds like Ons, TW, CERN that keep server identity’s alive and fund teamspeaks after the megaserver. Look at the server politics that have caused in game rivalries second only to EVE.
It’s a complete travesty that Arenanet has largely ignored this community and the very simple things we have been asking for since the launch of the game. EOTM was the only substantial thing they gave us IN 3 YEARS and it turned out to be a enormous joke and essentially just another place to PvE.
Guardian perspective with footage from RNG’s closed and open raids over the last month. Roll Initiative is a small man performance focused guild on Blackgate (we play mostly Late NA – early OCX.
It was indeed pretty freaking funny
Nah…. If you guys haven’t learned to not listen to us in team chat yet, well we can’t be blamed for that
A compilation of fights we’ve had on Blackgate over the last few weeks. There is a mix of both roaming and raiding clips, with the majority of the footage being tagless zergbreaking. This is my first video with multiple perspectives from various guildmates. Hope you guys enjoy it, constructive criticism is always appreciated!
Footage featuring:
- Ophelan (myself) playing Guardian
- Vluhd playing Warrior
- Stickymeat playing Necromancer
- Mini Xevis playing Mesmer
I’d like to add a disclaimer saying that this is a highly edited video. I tried to show as many fights as I could while keeping the video short. I’ll be uploading more videos showing the full picture of our raids in the future.
Not so tough without your Ehmry bay buddies huh YB?
Wow I haven’t fought YB in forever. Do you guys have anyone worth fighting yet?
Meh, just a bunch of arrow carts really
Greetings.
I am Gray Drury, the golem driver. Tonight, 10 SBI Omega Seige Golems attacked Yak’s Bend Bay. They melted through the Southeastern gate like butter. As they awaited mesmer port to the South inner gate, I stealthed my Omega Golem in a shadow refuge. It seemed certain that Bay was to fall.
I proceeded to rush my golem, stealthed, into the enemy mass of Omegas. Positioning myself to be facing the same direction as them, I began aim directly down, buckling their chassis with rocket fire, flamethrower blasts, and ballistic barrages. It would seem I was unnoticed except by scant passerby, as the Omegas accepted me into their family like a lost kitten.
I killed that family. I slaughtered the SBI Omegas that surrounded me like an infectious computer virus taking over of their own machines. As they lay melted and scratched on the floor, SBI and EB forces were routed out of Yak’s Bend Bay. My golem survived at 7k HP , then eventually fell in further combat.
If you ever see an Omega seemingly mindlessly wandering through the map. If you ever peek above a tower’s gate to see an Omega standing on the inside, waiting. If you ever hear the sound of an unstealthing thief, then the pounding resonance of a metal stump -
Run.
I am Gray Drury, golem driver of Yak’s Bend, and I am coming for you.
Beep boop.
Pray tell, were you the fellow last night that was hacking the omega golem? We ran into an invincible golem all over the map last night that moved faster than any player and mysteriously regenerated health when we would attempt to kill it.
Here’s a screen of a Yaks bend thief driving an omega golem with some suspicious guild claiming buffs outside bay, far away from any Yaks bend towers or keeps.
Now unfortunately I don’t have any video of the golem regenerating health, but that’s not saying someone else doesn’t.
I have been stuck in ques for hours, I have been prevented from playing with my guild (due to ques), I have suffered through ridiculous skill lag and server desync, I have torn my hair out at the flood of disrespectful achievement hunters.
This.. This.. Living story in EB stuff is the last straw. It’s clear they don’t want to listen to their most active and knowledgeable playerbase.
I once had high hopes for this game. An elder dragon a year I thought, it would be awesome. Instead we get scarlet and her “friend of the week”.
No more. I will await ESO, and what looks to be a much more enjoyable RvR.
Yea, this game is so fun, I love waiting
Thanks devs for making ESO an easier decision to move to.
Thanks for the help and suggestions all. I’ll get back to you when I have a chance to get in game.
The video card is a Nvidia NVS 5400m, 1gb.
It’s not great but it should at least be good enough to run consistently on low to medium settings. I can barley do anything without setting render on subs ample which I HATE
Hey guys, I’m curious if anyone has been having similar problems, and if there is anything I can do to fix this.
Lately, I’ve been noticing some really bad throttling issues with my fps. This is due to my CPU repeatedly hitting 100% usage in game. This happens most frequently in dungeons, pve trains, and WvW zergs.
CPU: Intel Core i5-3360M dual-core, 2.80 Ghz with 8GB of RAM
From what I can tell, this CPU exceeds Arenanet’s recommended system specs, but I’m still getting the same throttling issue very often even playing on the absolute lowest settings.
Is the CPU not as good as I think it is or is anyone experiencing a similar issue?
Crazy night last night defending Ogerwatch tower in EB. I’ve got to hand it to you Maguuma, you certainly know how to play around that siege cap.
Playing Guild Wars 2, I’ve almost always used the absolute lowest settings and gotten a consistent 40 fps with this following laptop setup with my Lenovo thinkpad t430.
- Intel Core i5-3360M dual-core, 2.80 GHz, L2 Cache 2 × 256KB, L3 Cache 3MB
- 8 GB 1333 MHz DIMM RAM
- Intel HD Graphics 4000/ 1 GB Nvidia NVS 5400m
But lately, I’ve been getting incredibly inconsistent results that don’t seem dependent on the action on screen at all. I have been running in a WvW zerg with 40+ characters on the screen using abilities, and seen my fps vary from 40 to 10 and below and then back up to 40 again. This will happen in nearly every area of the game. I’ve had dungeon runs where I was stable at a mediocre 19 fps, and then suddenly snap up to anywhere between 30 and 50 during the final boss fights.
I’ve seen fps values as high as 70 and as low as 4, with no apparent coordination between what is happening on screen and my performance. Any help with this is appreciated, because I am at a loss.
