How do you find enough fine materials for armor / weaponsmithing?

I’ve seen a lot of people comment on how easy it was to raise their crafting…what on earth am I doing wrong :S. Finding the required mats requires a huge amount of time, farming seems to be discouraged, and the prices on trading post are extremely high. How do you do it?

And yes I am maximising discovery and refining.

Why I think that crafting is broken

Anyone who has taken up weaponsmithing AND armorsmithing will tell you how painful and monotonous it is to find the required fine materials. Right now crafting is a complete waste of time and I was really disappointed with it.

The problem is exacerbated if you happen to have chosen both Weaponsmith AND Armorsmith because they seem to use the same mats. I would be very happy to see the number of required fine/rare mats halved, but double the amount of ore needed instead. At least ore can be obtained in a reasonable fashion.
I find it really demotivating that a game like Guild Wars, which is supposed anti-grinding, makes it so frustrating to craft. It seems impossible to keep my crafting skill at a usable level (compared to my character level)

I’m having the same problem with armor / weaponsmithing. I really liked the idea of being able to craft (and make use of) my own gear. Turns out that’s pretty much impossible, as Iron armor has a level requirement of 25 (about my current level) but finding the mats to reach 75 crafting skill takes far longer. By the time I’ve found all those crafting mats I’ll be level 30, so the armor I’m making won’t be much use anyway. Really takes the fun out of crafting.
