I liked the old Sylvari race concept better

-Where they were more Elven type of beings. I wish they gave players the option to play as either a plant Sylvari or an elven-ish Sylvari.

So they added Riding clothes...

The continual adding of awful gem store items is starting to really annoy me.

Before I bought Guild Wars 2 I thought they would add wonderful items and clothes that would give us a chance to enhance our characters beauty or personality.

So far its all generic garbage that you wouldn’t catch me dead in even if it was FREE.

I just can’t believe their doing such a poor job with the Gem Store clothes so far. What on earth is going on?

riding gear and hoodies over keys?

Uhmm.. yeah.. The new hair colors were a GREAT start, but the cosmetic offerings in the Gem Trading Post are still incredibly boring and nothing I’d ever want to spend real money on. Riding outfit?.. Seriously? I want to buy gems for things, but as of yet only hair colors have motivated me to do so.

Because it would be so hard for an engineer to make some kind of portable dimensional pocket to store all his gear in.

So far this sounds like the best and most plausible explanation. D&D has had many such items in its lore so maybe that’s it.

In RP my character (whose a noble) has a massive warehouse completely filled with his inventions that he summons to his person with his limited magical abilities, because face it, the elixirs alone scream “You have magic!” how else would you turn into a tornado, changing in size from elixirs, etc.

AHAHHAHA.

I love this explanation. I could totally see how it might work with the Engineers skills.

clap clap

Well done xD

basically you play the engineer class if you want to be Batman

if you don’t want to be Batman, change class

Bringing up Batman makes the class feel really cool now that you mention it.. never thought it that way!

When I play the class, it feels I’m all always pulling things out of my butt.
Like.. it doesn’t feel right when I conjure big turrets out of no where. Where was my character keeping these things? Does she really drag them along with her everywhere she goes?

It just feels like my character is always carrying so much stuff.. like unlimited grenades and big heavy bombs for example.
And how about that Airdrop Elite skill? Where does THAT stuff come from? There are planes in Tyria? And if there are, how did my character send coordinates to an aircraft to drop supplies to her position?
Anyone else feel the same?

Right, because turning into lightening to shoot forward, summoning undead, having a pet scorpion that follows your commands, healing people by yelling (shouts), going invisible to stealth, and cloning yourself with magic feels so realistic.

If you do not like the feel of the class, do not play it. No need make troll thread to flaunt your distaste on the sub forum of the profession.

This isn’t a troll thread. Its something that makes perfect sense if you think about it. Also turning into lightning and summoning and whatnot is an application of magic, something we’re all familiar with and a recognized craft in the game world.
Conjuring gadgets and heavy weaponry from thin-air however is something I’m not familiar with at all so I was curious if people had a way of explaining that.

Why can people take so hundreds of gunshots to the chest and survive? It’s a game mechanic. If the game was to be completely logical, lore based and “realistic”, a sword should slice right through enemies. Any single gunshot should kill. An engineer would only need to bring a few grenades with him, since explosions would blow his enemies into smithereens.

But that wouldn’t be fun.

This is a helpful response. It would make more sense then if what we see in guild wars 2 on screen isn’t what would happen lose-wise at all but rather a different representation of it. Interesting way to think about it.

Maybe the Engineer uses magic to do those things

It’s no different from conjuring fireballs

(But on a serious note, IMO, those are game mechanics, and I don’t think it’s a direct representation of the idea of Engineers and how they fight in the lore)

Yeah, if it was magic, I could buy that. It just really bothers me laying down huge heavy bombs that I got ‘somehow’.. and have many of. So it really would make me wonder how lore-wise engineers fight indeed.

Its a legitimate question. I know its a fantasy game and all, but out of any class I ever played in an MMO, this one just feels so… unplausible..

This game needs more skills

Sorry to dissent, but I must disagree. One of the things I hate about most MMOs is the annoying number of skills they throw at you. GW2 strikes a very good balance of keeping a narrow skill band without sacrificing much in the way of depth.

That being said, given the number of weapons each class can use, there’s really not a lack of skill sets to try.

As a thief.. when doing quests and the like, I’m always just spamming one or two skills to optimally clear enemies while emptying the cooldowns on Utilities in between. Its almost always the same experience.. and I’m getting bored with it. Which class do you play?

While I like how your skills change depending on your weapon, I feel that in the end there are just TOO few of them.

Its the major reason GW2 has been boring for me as I feel I have way too little tools to play with in combat, and the ones I have aren’t particularly exciting.

It would be cool if a weapon skill set had multiple skill styles. Like if you use a sword, you could choose between an ‘agile’ sword skill bar and an ‘aggresive’ sword skill bar for example.

A larger variety of skills would really help this game out I feel.

I’d absolutely love this.

My biggest gripe with this game is the lack of customization with your characters non-combat clothing and lack of different things to wear for purely vanity (gem store clothes are silly and not.. pretty).

This would be a great step in the right direction.

Plus I love to dive <3

Thieves are a boring class

They just don’t feel very “visceral”.

I loved my Wow Rogue. Stacking some combo points for a big Eviscerate, bleeding them dry with Rupture, pounding them where it hurts with a Kidney shot and launching a Deadly Throw at a runner always felt GOOD.. Yes, sounds very familiar to what a GW2 thief could do, but I feel pretty disconnected doing it.

With Thief nearly all theirs skills feel very.. meh.

Sword is boring. I wish we were able to dual wield them. Its mostly just auto attacks and spamming Pistol Whip. An offhand dagger makes sword even more boring.

Dagger is the best of the sets when it comes to fun, but could be better.

Pistol.. while looking kind of cool, is somewhat monotonous. Dual wielding pistols is just spamming unload. A dagger in the offhand is pretty fun though.

I couldn’t agree more.

I bought GW2 expecting that I’d happily buy from the cash store for cosmetics goodies.. but.. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Everything offered in the Gemstore is gimmicky garbage. Pirate Costumes? Chef Outfits? BOXING GLOVES!?

What is wrong with you A-net.

To date I have not purchased a single gem.. because why should I? Please put quality clothing items on the Gemstore please. I want to buy outfits that will make my character look more beautiful and casual pieces for roleplay. When I look at town NPCs.. I’d gladly spend gems to get what they are wearing.

So yeah. If you want our money A-net, your going to have to put way more effort and thought into your Gemstore offerings because currently everything on it is silly and not appealing at all.. for me atleast.

What is the problem with Guild Wars 2?

My personal problem with GW2 is that none of the classes feel fun for me.

I tried every single one and not one really feels.. that great..

Also extremely disappointing by the variety in armor and weapon aesthetics. There are also NO DECENT TOWN CLOTHES. All the ones sold in the gem store are gimmicky and silly to me.

Its pretty immersion breaking when I’m on an underwater event or quest and the humanoid deep in the water are just treading water with no breathing equipment on.. just staying there as if everything is fine and dandy, even talking to me just fine.

Please A-net, give NPCs that lorewise need air breathers, it feels silly seeing them without any.

Its a bit of a tough thing to explain in words but.. I was wondering what anyone else thinks about it.

Do you actually drown without it? Just curious..

You don’t actually.

In my opinion its pretty immersion breaking to see someone underwater without one for over ten minutes.
