A client for Linux

I haven’t played GW2 in a while. Every so often I check the performance in wine just to see if I can play it in linux, but other than that I don’t even log into my account anymore.

I’ve posted in this thread before, back when I was still willing to use Windows because I had so many games that were windows only, but even before the steam client released I stopped buying games that were windows only. I’ve probably spent $300-500 on steam games that had native linux clients, and to anyone who has been a linux user for years it’s hard to not throw money at a developer that decides to not shun your preferred platform.

I have nothing but love for Anet, and do not wish to insinuate that they do not know what they are doing. GW2 was an amazing game when I was playing. I’ve missed out on so many events because I find the performance in wine too unbearable to continue playing.

I think the easiest way for Anet to see how much demand/capital they can raise to make a native linux client would be to create a kickstarter or indiegogo. They can raise all of their concerns with making it possible and give us an estimate on how much money/time it will take to hire developers and get some progress.

While I dream of playing GW2 on linux, I’ll keep throwing money at Steam to build up my library. Once Valve gets more AAA titles onto linux (and AMD’s Mantle begins to become the preferred API) it will snowball greatly into linux becoming more than a toy in the eyes of developers.
