I’ve been using this build on my Mesmer since I created it. I tried the sw/sw approach, I tried s/f, s/t, s/p, sw/p; I never really liked any of them. Before the condition changes in the June 23rd feature patch, I had been using my staff as my main weapon for a couple of reasons:
*It’s rotation is fluid as kitten.
*Staff clones don’t do damage, but they’re bouncing conditions do.
*It offers excellent utility and defensive capabilities, and unsurpassed group management. I can facetank a champ with this no problem, and never even get downed, but I can just easily tank 3 veterans and all their little friends and achieve the same results.
*Chaos. Chaos for days.

See, I originally started it as a pve build. I found that I was dying a lot in the early levels using most other weapons; exception being sw/sw, but I just didn’t like the play style. I did like GS, but it just doesn’t do the job for what I wanted. So, I picked up the staff. Suddenly, I had 3 clones up at all times, they were all attacking and applying random condi’s and boons, and I watched my condition damage stack on and exponentiate faster than I thought possible.
Running around with a guildmate of mine, she took note of how I played my mesmer, and told me I should try it in PvP. So I did. It wrecks face there, too.
Here’s the strategy:
Draw the enemy into your Chaos Storm, and 2 out, casting a free chaos armor on yourself and generating your first clone. Immediately cast mirror images, or cast decoy and dodge roll away. Suddenly you have 3 clones bouncing bolts off your enemies.
Now. The kicker.
Ignore that shatter button. Ignore it completely. You don’t need it yet. There are fights where you’ll never need it.
Never.
This seems kind of wrong, right? It’s not. Those clones of yours stack conditions and boons like crazy, and once fully traited, the damage is admirable. The closer your clones are to the enemy, the better; less travel time on the conditions. Watch as 2, 3, 4, 9, the number doesn’t really matter, fall to your chaotic onslaught. As long as you keep Chaos Storm down on the highest concentration of enemies/idiots, and keep your clone train rolling, you’re virtually unstoppable.
Now, the awesome thing is, you have those 4 lovely shatter buttons waiting to be pressed. You CAN press them. I’ll blow up my first 3 with F2 for confusion on higher level enemies, and then blow up my next 3 with Wrack for burst if I am in a hurry. Otherwise, I pretty much let them sit there and bounce stack conditions. That shatter button is tempting, but it’s only for situational usage. Or confusing the kitten out of an enemy player…
Anyways. I’ve been trying to find someone with more experience than I who runs a build similar to mine, with the same sort of play style as mine. Most are overly focused on shattering, and don’t make full use of the beauty that is Winds of Chaos.

This build is actually amazing.

In pve, i suggest to just maximize your power, precision, and some soul reaping for traits, and using axe + dagger/staff for aoe purposes. you can complete hearts fastest by rounding up a couple enemies and aoe’ing them down to death using any skills you can get that help get life force back quicker it seems like the developers REALLY want you to use lifeforce for everything.

In s/tpvp it seems like the minion master build is one of the top 5 right now in the current meta, so im sticking with that right now although it pretty much requires no skill and just face-rolls pretty much anyone you face.

If i can find the spvp build im using in the forums again ill link it here. have fun! necro is an easy class to play, but hard to master.

yes i believe gw2 is the perfect pvp game. keep it the way it is because it is just perfect.

By no means is the pvp perfect, it needs a lot of work. I started out this game strictly doing pvp, but have slowly been moving away from it because it feels as if there is no reward, and boring playing the same game modes over and over, not to mention the same map "temple, temple, temple, temple, khylo, temple temple temple, foefire, temple, temple, skyhammer…………

for the last two days ive done maybe 10 pvp team/solo-q’s and easily i’ve gotten temple 9 times and khylo 1 time. when the update first came i got foefire 100% of the time, the random system is pretty not random. i should start placing bets on what the next map im going to play is.

I kind of feel the same way, necro’s can be used for wells.. but in a sense i feel like we are a very selfish class compared to other classes that can provide other buffs. We do have condition removal which is nice but yes I am leveling a necro at the moment and I honestly am kind of scared to keep leveling him because it is such a rollercoaster of nerfs/buffs. One second we are underpowered and cannot get a kill, the next we are extremely overpowered.

Hello everyone, i’m on the server “dragonbrand” and just logged back in from a 4month break.
Can anyone bring me up to speed in summary with what is there new to do(updates, etc) & also if any pvp competitive guilds are recruiting feel free to drop a comment

My sugestion is to rework Signet of Midnight:

Passive: Grants a 25% increase in movement speed.
Active: Blind nearby foes.
Blind: 3 s
Radius: 360
Range: 360

completely agree, except change the passive of signet of inspiration to 25% speed boost while out of combat. the only reason i ever had that signet on my bar was to hopefully get the speed buff (ESPECIALLY at low levels)

the devs are suffering from a severe case of FOBO (Fear Of Being Overpowered)

It is a terrible crippling affliction that resides only in the minds of the developers.

I’d rather have a class that is slightly overpowered and playable than a class that is completely inferior to other classes and not worth playing with in WvW.

i agree with all your posts. I mean the necro DOES have it’s uses. Such as fearing sieges at gates, an incoming zerg.. but then again other classes to have walls that that do the same thing. The more i think about it, the more i notice how necro just has a bunch of skills that other classes do better. Which really sucks, because again, i absolutely am in love with necros and have spent countless hours playing them.

Anyone else ever feel like this community suggests to do so much to the necro and improve the class (because almost everyone agrees we are underpowered) ?

If you do not agree the class is underpowered in WvW, SPvP, please explain why.

Also, everyone agrees that the thief is overpowered yet i have not seen much done. Maybe this upcoming patch will fix just that; i simply just love the necromancer class and frankly cannot play anything else

I’m in for that. I’m eastern so that’s 12AM for me. Also i’m a level 41 necro RIGHT now (might be 48 or so in a couple days.) that’s completely new to dungeons, hopefully you guys or someone will show me your ways soon.

i just noticed this like 10 minutes ago in a world boss event. I must have downed like 5 times in 2 minutes lololololol. it’s not a horrible problem if you know how to stay alive.. but if your skillset isn’t fit i could see you in deep water every conflict.
