About time we got an answer, however vague it might be.
I guess I’ll be keeping my laurels for a while, looking forward to finally getting an ascended item that doesn’t gimp my build.
I am more concerned with wether or not it will remain a “best in slot” if I transmute.
Exactly!
What’s the point of getting a best in slot piece if its’ stats are totally unrelated to your build, anyway?
We definitely should be able to transmute a legendary to stats of our own choice without getting ‘punished’ for doing so by losing the best in slot status
Lucas I initially intended to ignore you because I do not like your tone and you have the kind of self-righteousness (combined with the usual disapproval of the rest of the community) that I consider signs of a person not worth trying to talk to.
However since you keep on directly talking to me in some know-it-all ironic manner, I suppose I’ll have to eventually deal with your stupid arguments, so the sooner the better.
Fact one: I know a big deal of pick-up groups, either recruited directly in-game or through gw2lfg, do kill the troll. I used to run a full ac run daily for more than a month, most of the time with pugs, and statistically almost half of the runs we legitimately killed the troll. I can totally understand people skipping it though, as the profit gained by killing it is negligible.
Fact two: The only random factor concerning this dungeon event is its’ position. It has a bunch of possible spawn locations, but it does spawn in every single run, if you take the time to look for it. It’s probable that on a few unlucky occasions you won’t be able to enter the area where it spawns, but you still can’t classify it as a “RARE” event. Especially considering that AC is the dungeon to have been run the most times since release.
Fact three: The Troll does NOT spawn a chest when killed.
These are indicators that the troll is not the right boss, or if it is (as I’ve already said before) the drop rate is at subzero levels. You can go ahead and claim it is, you might as well go and grind the rest of your life on it for all I care, and I honestly wish you the best of luck on finding it.
@ Nike, I don’t think the boss we’re looking for HAS to be level 80. You can get items of your level by any chest, and even low level mobs sometimes drop stuff close to your level. If you also think about it, I’d say any lower level event boss on some stranded remote location might be a good candidate, as it’s been farmed way less than any level 75+ one.
It’s not the troll. It can’t be. It’s been killed like 1 million times without a drop so chances are if you start grinding it today you might get your staff in the next two lifetimes.
@Zogy, I don’t think the devs contradict each other. I’d say they gave us some more info, actually- “rare” boss with a chest, with either the chest or the boss being “LARGE”.
Also, no, I checked Arah story mode once again yesterday, keeping an eye on every minor detail, there’s nothing suggestive of Final Rest being there. Zhaitan’s Rest POI is also only accessible through path 4.
I’m going to stick with the info devs have provided, not because I’m 100% sure they’re correct, but because without that faint guidance there’s literally an entire continent where the staff could be.
Which means I’ll have to disregard the giant event, as there’s no chest.
what the..
yes that definitely is an arrow
What about the area post-Simin in Arah’s path 4? I remember there was a maze of sorts around there, might be some alternate route or a bonus-event?
The path is the one that’s been played the least out of all explorable dungeons, and even more so the part after the priestess of Dwayna.
EDIT:
What about Flame Temple Tombs mini-dungeon? This used to be an Ascalonian Crypt.. This one has been farmed though. Not excessively, but more than a lot, since release

Don’t get overexcited with every new idea- Zho’Qafa still feels far more probable than The Artesian Waters
Friend told me today he’s seen a couple people wearing Final Rest, both in Lion’s Arch. He asked for a link and it was the real deal.
They didn’t divulge how they obtained tho.
..loved that “a couple bit”. As if claiming your friend has seen just one wasn’t already too much of a lie.
ot: Although I never really believed Zho’qafa is the answer to the riddle, I’m up for grinding the event and some healthy private talks on the matter
If there’s any person or party already doing or interested in doing that, feel free to add me (EU server), so we could play together and try keeping each other’s hopes up.
Hello!
The fact that a lot of the ranger’s traits need reworking or balancing is unquestionable, and I’d like to share an idea that popped up about Master’s Bond in particular.
Reasons why I believe it needs to be reworked
This trait practically forces you to use a single pet for longer periods of time, giving up on the additional skills and HP pool of a 2nd one, as well as the on pet swap-benefits (quickness & boon gains). Except from that, to use it to its’ fullest, you need to keep your pet alive during more fights which is definitely hard (although not impossible), mostly due to the pet behavior problems, limited available commands and of course the fact that you’re not “allowed” to swap unless you want to reset the trait. Pet swapping is a major mechanic, defining of the ranger gameplay, and this trait is practically based on canceling it.
As is, I believe it only is useful when soloing around Tyria and facing only small groups of non-elites, and even in this case the increase in damage is still negligible compared to a power/prec/cd build.
How I think it could be
“Your pet gains x% of your added stats”, where by added I mean those gained from equipment and trait bonuses (thus excluding the base stats).
Why would that be an improvement over its’ current functionality?
First of all, it doesn’t go against the pet-swap mechanic. Besides, it promotes variation, and helps rangers create more unique builds involving pets, while performing better at specific roles.
It isn’t overpowered compared to the current version- the permanent stat boost comes at the expense of other stats (those that the ranger has not increased), and the X value can be properly adjusted to avoid extreme gimmicks.

I feel stupid- thanks for pointing that out
Here is another fresh thread I just spotted regarding the pet names issue, I think you should thumb it up if you haven’t already
I’ll edit my post and remove the first part before someone makes fun of my ignorance (:
Hello.
One of the few things that annoy me while playing my ranger in PvE is the Pet Dialog(K)
What I find wrong with the mechanic right now is that you cannot individually name each charmed pet. Instead, you have to rewrite the name for the active ones, every time you swap them. Since pets are strongly tied to builds and situations, change of pets is rather common (at least for me, and I think for the vast majority of rangers in pve). Pets’ names reflect each player’s attempt to differentiate from the rest, and the current mechanic cripples our ability to customize our characters.
This problem isn’t major and does not need an immediate solution- in fact I’m not sure if the community would agree with me it even is a problem in the first place. I believe, however, a different mechanic could provide a far more pleasant experience with pet management while not being too hard to implement.
Thanks
