We specifically said we don’t want to get caught up in the trap where every 3-6 months the game adds another tier of gear to the game; that invalidates all your hard work and the rewards you’ve earned.
I have trouble taking that sincerely, since all I see is treadmill.
Needless to say, I can’t say I’m happy with these things. Well, as long as they can be sold on the TP and no account bound BS I’ll be alive.
You’re blowing this far out of proportion. This game does not have a gear treadmill – a gear treadmill implies receiving new gear at regular (often frequent) intervals, at least to me. Over the course of a year we’re getting one new full set of items. One upgrade per slot.
A gear treadmill would be something like Warcraft or Everquest, where you’re grinding for better stats within each tier as well. All exotics are the same in this game. Not so in Everquest 2 – you constantly upgrade fabled to fabled (exotic-equivalent tag), every raid zone upgraded gear from the last, within the same tier. Every group zone upgraded your legendary item (equiv. to Rare in this) to a better legendary item. And you NEED those upgrades to move on to the next set of zones. That’s what I would call a treadmill.
That said, I’m not a fan of ascended, but you don’t need ascended outside of Fractals and perhaps WvW. That argument I can see and tend to agree with, but they’ve said WvW isn’t really made to be balanced, hence why you can take non-80’s without all their skill slots wearing fine/masterwork gear into it.

51 runs and no one in my party any of the time has gotten a mini nor a jetpack o.O
I’m really starting to wonder if the drop rate got bugged.
Gotten the morph recipe twice though : /
I was thinking the same thing. I did about 40 runs. I know alot of people got them around the first day. Then nobody after that. Its like they had a quota of drops and they hit it in the first day and then no more drops. Not that I care, I don’t want the jetpack and minis don’t really appeal to me either.
This is what I’ve been wondering about for a while with events like this – does anet use a rate of entry system or just go by the RNG pure? If anyone’s seen a dev comment on this and could link it, that would be great!
I can’t quite find a dev response on this but many posts from players from a few google searches. Far as I know, being in a group does not necessarily improve loot or XP quality/amounts, but you yourself have to do less work to get kill credit from a mob. Group damage is counted toward the amount you need, as long as you get a hit or two at all on the mob. As a pure hypothetical, say you needed to do 100 damage to get full credit – your group can do 90 and you do 10, you get credit. Going solo, you’d have to do all 100.
But again, I don’t have a dev source on this, just my own experience and other players’ posts.
Eir is oblivious
Could have left it at that, for that matter…
Jokes aside, some of the placements of the periscopes do confuse me. I think the idea that the periscopes were placed in such a way as to intentionally disrupt activity in the invaded zones makes sense, but how they get there doesn’t particularly make sense in some cases. There’s a periscope that spawns right outside the armory in Plains of Ashford’s very low level area in the northwest… do none of the Charr sitting right outside their home city care about the invasion? How did that periscope get set up without any interference? There are no Molten Alliance troops in the area to defend this periscope in the heart of Charr territory. There are other examples of this, but that’s the one that sticks in my mind.
The living part of this story feels very one-sided, and it sticks out like a sore thumb when I think about it; only the enemy seems to care outside of the story instances inside the Citadel/Hoelbrak.

I think it looks a little odd on most characters – look at a charr wielding the staff as well. That bird has a good grip!
I just want to be able to see Mossman coming for me again – he pops up on top of me after his big stealth hit lands ever since January. Hopefully this will be a good change for WvW though!
It depends on how they go about it. I came here from playing Everquest 2 for about 6 years – guild halls effectively killed home cities in that game when they came out. But personal player housing was in from launch and didn’t have that much of an effect on world population. The problem with EQ2’s guild halls was you could get an NPC for everything that the main cities offered, so there was really no reason at all to go to a city anymore – your guild was entirely self-sufficient if you got all the tools in your hall. That said, as long as there’s no personal mystic forge/forge equivalent, or Fractals entrance in guild halls, Lion’s Arch will still be active, I think.
As for other cities, I hardly see anyone in Black Citadel when I run around there as it is.
Did the monthly really encourage anyone to actually participate in WvW? I figured most were like me and grabbed an alt to leech XP off the zerg while making sure I tagged people with one shot a piece at range. WvW has almost no appeal to me, I really wish they’d seperate it into its own monthly – give laurels for that too, even! I don’t see why PvE players should be forced into WvW, or why WvW players should be forced into PvE.
