The mask skin was a reward last year. I believe this year you can get it from the laurel vendor.

Another to confirm. Shatterer most definitely had the double health but no one was able to crit. Did Fire Ele before and also no crits there.

Game Begins to Act like a Slideshow

I’ve experienced this as well, thankfully only once, I believe it was the first or second day after the Wintersday patch. Didn’t even think to make a bug report. I was inside the Demongrubs jp cave waiting for a friend to arrive to show them through the jp, which was pretty busy since everyone was trying to get their ornaments. One minute the game was normal, the next it was a slideshow, I think the options menu showed I’d dropped from 50ish to 7 fps. I went to exit the game and it crashed as it was closing. Haven’t had a similar incident since.

Toypocalypse and Parties

Count me as another who may “understand” the technical reason for this change but most certainly does not like or encourage it. This event was lots of fun last year, particularly because you could go in with friends. Now this year I’m unable to take new guildies (for whose first Wintersday this is) in to show them the fun because it’s been changed to throw us with randoms.

What I don’t understand is why there is this insistence that things designated as “activities” cannot be done with parties. They are precisely the sort of thing you should want to do with your guild or with friends. Being tossed in with random people who have different motivations and intentions for participating in the activity decreases the fun of the activity. Personally, I will only be participating in Toypocalypse this year to get the needed achievements and nothing more because this change to the activity directly makes it less appealing. From what I’ve seen in guild and map chat so far today I’m not the only one who feels this way, with some even ignoring the activity this year entirely. This is really unfortunate because there are so many other areas where the game does a good job of letting you play with who you want to.

Reporting that a friend of mine is experiencing this as well on one of their characters. They ran a -repair of their client and it didn’t help at all, still freezing when going to the story journal on that character.

farming nodes . Why Anet erasing them ?

It’s part of the New Player Experience. Since information about gathering is only displayed at level 9 (at which point gathering nodes are also shown in the map), ANET has removed gathering nodes from very low level areas. They have also, with no good reason discernible by the player community, removed cooking ingredients from karma/heart merchants in those same low level areas.

Whether or not they had other/additional reasons for that change is currently unknown.

The Wayfarer Foothills potato farm was moved to Crossroads Haven in Halvaunt Snowfield, by the way.

Actually, the relocated potato farm in Wayfarer has completely been removed as of Tuesday’s patch. At first I thought perhaps the bug was back where farms weren’t resetting properly (the lettuce farm in Queensdale would reset for me maybe once a week if I was lucky) but the nodes aren’t even there anymore. Several in my guild have also reported being unable to find potatoes anywhere in Wayfarer. So it would seem that we are down to one potato farm, and whatever handful of nodes there are in WvW. :/

There really needs to be some clear, concrete statement made on whether the new weapon/skill/attunement/etc locking is meant solely for new accounts, for the first character made on an account after the 9/9 patch, etc. I’ve seen devs mention that things aren’t/weren’t unlocking like they should be and that some changes were supposed to be account-bound (meaning we would only have to deal with them once) and not per character. Knowing that some of this new hand-holding which the majority of veteran players don’t need (and quite frankly, if you’ve played X amount of hours or have X amount of level 80s already, it’s your choice if you want to ignore tutorials and the like) would go a long way toward settling people. I’d like to believe that the devs know we aren’t all so clueless and new to a game like GW2 that we actually need this kind of stuff on one character, let alone every.single.new.alt.

All I’ve seen is a lot of “we’re going to make some changes/we’re looking into it” followed by “we’re not discussing it until it’s as designed”. The uptick of dev activity is refreshing, don’t get me wrong, and certainly is working toward regaining consumer trust, but there is a long ways to go and people who are unhappy are not going to suffer un-fun game mechanics for weeks while you fix it to be “as designed”. Which for all we know might be even less fun for those of us who genuinely like to make alts.

Stealth Nerf - Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic

When I saw the thread title I thought this was about how the sound effects for the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic were removed this patch. Still hoping that’s a bug.

But more to the topic of the thread, I’ve seen reports that some people were unable to salvage under level 15. I didn’t run into this myself and was able to use crude kits at level 12, but I didn’t try my Copper-Fed, or any higher salvage kit. That would be very interesting if they level-locked the salvage kits.

I think the expectations of more people on maps is greatly exaggerated. Sure, there will, but what will they be doing and on what maps? With the scheduling of bosses?
Maps with world bosses will be more populated, with people congregated around the boss spawn point at spawn time.
Other maps and areas will for sure have a few more people in them, but I highly doubt the ‘population explosion’ in already dead areas and maps that people seem to think is going to happen will actually come to be, when it will actually instead be a timed afk and stand around in one place at boss time. And the population will appear huge, in those areas at those specific times.
This does not solve the overall problem at all. Dead areas are dead because there’s no reason to be there. A ‘Megaserver’ does not address this in any way. There’s still no reason to be in many maps or areas. *
All the Megaserver does is provide a nice illusion that the game is full and heavily populated, at pre-determined times and places.

Bold emphasis is my own. This was far too on point not to quote.

Regarding contested waypoints: What happened to the system that would automatically redirect you to the nearest uncontested waypoint if the one you chose was contested? Wouldn’t that work with megaservers?

It doesn’t actually do that. At least, it’s never done that to me since launch, nor anyone I’ve played with. When you happen to pick a contested waypoint once you zone in the message pops up, but it still puts you at that waypoint. There’s no redirection that happens, even though the message says that it has.

Community isn’t just guild/friend list. Community is essentially everyone on your server, and that is being messed with.

One of the most exciting aspects of the new system is that it gets you playing with members of your home server more often.

Short of actually forcing players to do something together, I fail to see how this new megaserver system will accomplish that.

If I’m running around on a map that is TC proper (ie. not overflow) then I can logically deduce that any other player I come across is either 1) another TC native, or 2) someone purposely guesting to TC. Thus, if I go to do an event on that map and there are other players at the event as well, I am playing with members of my home server. The only time this isn’t the case is in an overflow, and it doesn’t sound like the megaserver system is getting rid of overflows at all; they’re just not being called overflows any longer.

Zodiac Armors Feeback

I typically try to avoid the forums because of the atmosphere but after reading through this entire thread (and seeing that they actually want feedback on the topic) I felt compelled to add my two cents.

First off, I was ecstatic to see a completely new armor set. Granted, I’d prefer to see new armor introduced in the game that didn’t require gems to purchase it, but new armor (and not reskins!) is still worth being excited about.

Was I surprised by the nature of the armor? Yes, mostly because it’s probably the boldest armor we’ve seen yet. The blue is impossible to miss. ;] However, I’m a fan of it because of its uniqueness. I also really wish the in-game previews were better quality as I wasn’t able to notice the starry-type effects until seeing people’s high-res screenshots posted in this thread. I was disappointed to learn that the blue itself isn’t dye-able (at first I thought it was some sort of rendering bug given how it looks in previews) and would be for allowing it to be dye-able or even toggled. If not, I agree with an above suggestion to tone down the alpha on the blue so that our character details can come through a little. Toning down the alpha could also allow for the whole ethereal theme/feel to be more obvious to those running with lower graphics settings as well as in the in-game previews.

But above all else, I would hope that these armor sets are left in game and not drastically altered because some people are screaming that they dislike them. Variety is important, especially in a game like this and one that has been out for over a year. Could there be a perception that the armor is revealing? Yes. Personally, I was happy to see that the male armor was ‘revealing’ a little as well, since the lack of such armors has held me off from sticking with any male humanoid characters I make. The ‘revealing’ nature isn’t equal for the two gender options but I’m choosing to hope that this is a step in the right direction and that armors in the future will be more equal in appearance when viewing on one or the other.

The matter of realistic armor in video games can be argued to death so I’m not going to bother. What I will say is that I greatly approve of a variety of armors with a variety of body coverage, so that people who want their characters to be covered can do so and people who dislike coverage can find things they like. For example, I’m fond of Norn because of their tattoos, and want armor for my characters that shows those tattoos off rather than covers them up. Do I think everyone should dress their characters that way? No, of course not. I want to see variety. Do I see some armor combinations on characters that I don’t like? Sure, but because I don’t find that armor appealing, not because I get my feathers ruffled if a little skin is or isn’t showing. It’s not up to me to tell other people how they should dress their characters or what they should like to see on their characters, and I don’t want other people telling me what I can or can’t put on my character.

As another who recently moved to this server, this is all good to hear! WvW has quickly become one of my favorite things and I was hoping the atmosphere would be better here than on my previous server.
