Ooh, sweet, okay! Thank you so much! Yeah, I was hoping I wasn’t nuts with the sudden leveling difficulty. It’s a bummer but I might try to stick it out anyway. I will check out that guide!

Trouble leveling, am I doing something wrong?

Hello all. Let me say I’m still relatively new to the game, but I do have two 80s — a ranger and a necromancer, so those are the two I am familiar with.

I’ve been trying to level my Mesmer and it seems like it’s even harder post-patch with less traits than it had been before! I love the idea and aesthetics of mesmers so I would love to play one at 80, but getting there is really rough. So, I’m wondering if there’s something I’m doing wrong.

My issue is this: when I’m traited into power and precision, it feels like it takes forever for mobs to die! I am currently level 43, using a staff/greatsword combo, and now I have put my (only 3) trait points into my illusions to see if I would have more luck there. I’ve been playing around with my limited traits a lot to see what I can make happen. Things don’t die very fast at all, or I die very fast (the latter makes sense and I know why that happens.. I am pretty dang squishy).

Additionally, I’ve been watching my damage while doing hearts out in Harathi Hinterlands (trying to level in areas around my level) and my illusions.. do 1 damage, 2 damage, or 3 damage. When they crit, they do 2 or 3 damage. This is with me doing something around 500+ damage myself! Is this right, am I reading the wrong numbers that are popping up, are my illusions being weenie something normal and I’m just nuts?

If anyone has any ideas for weapon combinations and preferred traits, please let me know! I’m up for any and all suggestions with this character. So far I’ve just been swapping crafting professions left and right to level him up with crafting out of fear for the trauma of actually trying to level.

Sorry for the tl;dr omg and thank you for reading. >_>

Necro BUG listing:

I don’t know if this is a bug per say, but maybe someone can help me with it/I’d like to write it down for Anet if it’s relevant. Basically, sometimes, if I’m out and attacking things, if I accidentally tab to neutral mobs and don’t attack them usually — I hit ‘esc’ and try to move on — but my minions get excited and go YEAH IT’S MURDER TIME and start going all out on the thing. It’s just a minor annoyance so nothing huge, perhaps not a bug, but if my minions wouldn’t attack things until I actually start attacking them that would be nice.

I use a dagger so usually I’m out of range of these things too — so I’m not hitting anything and by the time I’ve tabbed away or hit ‘esc’ my minions have already started to fight it. (I’ll try to turn off autoattack w/ tab targeting to see if that changes though).

I don’t imagine this will be seen in the flood of things being said, but I want to write these things down since they have been bothering me about the Megaserver for the last week or so. Let me say that I do enjoy having more people around sometimes — that’s a plus, and some world events get done more quickly/more often that way. However, two things really irk me.

1. The gold spammers are absolutely, 100% out of control. When I first started playing this game, which was admittedly not long ago, I absolutely loved that I could play a free-to-play-by-month game that wasn’t inundated with spam. I receive at least ten gold selling, hacked account whispers every hour now; it’s incredibly tedious and disappointing.

2. I loved the atmosphere on my home server that I chose, and that atmosphere is now gone. I went from a friendly, somewhat quiet server, to a map chat that is absolutely rampant with sexism, racism, homophobia, and further excessive trolling that is borderline insufferable. I realize that I can block and report these things, and I do. I am not complaining that people are behaving inappropriately; rather that the entire cultural environment in which I enjoyed playing the game has gone to waste.

Basically, if I wanted to play with these sorts of irritating additions, I’d play a handful of other games that I had left because I enjoyed the atmosphere of GW2 that much more. I am honestly sad that’s gone, now. :(

Good ideas for leveling build?

@Flissy: LOL, truth. I was using a sword/dagger combo for a bit and I loved it, but I’ve always had more fun with ranged stuff. Then again, nothing seems to die as quickly as I’d like unless I’m hacking directly at it with a sword. (Been playing with a greatsword again, and even went axe/axe and now axe/torch for practicing purposes).

I’m not very familiar with the builds people use primarily but I have been branching out more with weapons I hadn’t expected (mostly I come from Warcraft where it’s like “oh this pet class wears medium armor and looks like a hunter therefore it uses bows and nothing else goodbye”.

If I did play around more with a sword in my main hand, what off-hands do you think go best with it personally? :O I liked dagger, tried warhorn for a short while, and like torch a lot I think since I can just put fire rings on the ground around me for melee range stuff.

It would be with a power build, since I figure that’s the best for doing a lot of damage I hope?

Sorry for redundancy, but I’ve gone through and looked at quite a few guides here but haven’t gotten a good idea of what I’m doing.

I’m really new to the game and my ranger just hit 50. I feel like my traits are all over the place.. and I kind of want to switch them around now that I have enough to have 10 in a lot of places and 20 somewhere. My question is.. what are the differences between where I’m putting my traits and what do you think is best for leveling?

I’m using a Longbow right now and I like it a lot, but I would like to use a shortbow when I’m 80. Currently I have 20 in power and 10 in the vitality stat with 10 in the precision but I feel like it’s messy.

Thank you for any help!

Super new, with questions about armor skins?

Yay, thank you guys so much! You answered all of my questions and I am glad that I understand what to do with these now (and glad that I kept them both, hehe).

This answered everything. Thank you again!

Hello everyone! I am very, very new to the game (coming here from WoW) and I’ve been playing for about a week — so far I love it! When I bought the game, I got two fancy armor things, and I don’t understand what they are or how to use them, so that’s what I’m in here for.

First, I rolled a Necromancer as my first character, so I selected to get the Light armor from this fancy box thing — now, it gave me five pieces of blue Profane armor, each with +1 Vitality.

It ALSO gave me the Profane light armor skin, which I looked up on the GW wiki, but still couldn’t really make heads or tails of. I haven’t opened it (but from what I understand it has 5 pieces of the Profane armor skin inside of it for transmutation purposes?) because I reaaaally don’t know what I’m doing but I’m excited about it so I want to make sure I don’t waste it or anything.

Basically my question is, what is this armor skin? How does it work? Am I supposed to apply this armor skin directly to the Profane armor pieces that I already received (the blue ones with the vitality on them??) or do I wait to open it until I have good level 80 gear that I want to use it on? Is the armor skin a one-time use deal or do I get to use it multiple times?

Bearing in mind that I still don’t have a lot of knowledge about the game, if someone can explain this in layman’s terms or even in like, say, WoW-ese to me, that would be super awesome. Thank you so much!
