So why aren’t people paying attention to them? Is it because it’s not explained in the game? Or do people simply choose to ignore them?
Its not explained anywhere but in the tooltip of the ability when mousing over it with the mob targetted. If one didnt pick it up during the DEs in the world, it would be even worse in dungeons.
Good to know about the wells.
As far as tooltips are concerned it feels like im reading a Warhammer 40k rulebook. They are quite vague. It doesnt actually say they dont work with each other but doesnt also say they do anywhere. Had the same issue with 30 Spite – Close to death. It says damage but doesnt affect conditions. Its more of an issue of clarity.
Wells are covered by XII – Vampiric Rituals or we double dip there?
Honestly the vampiric effects need far more clearing up as to what works and what doesnt tooltip-wise.

From what i have noticed you can manage the minion behavior a bit if you mess with the following options:
Stop Autoattacking on Target Change
Autotargeting
Promote skill target
Not a solution in any way to be sure, but i found out that at least the Flesh Golem behaves much less erratically when the automated options are off.
About the self-mutilation part, striker’s explanation sounds reasonable from a design standpoint. If you are into the general necro-goth-dark lore i general, it still makes sense. However, from a clear game pov getting self-afflicted gives you two options:
a) Use a dagger offhand, the #4 skill (Deathly Swarm) will take up to three conditions and slap them to your taget. Works for all conditions, those others put on you and those you put yourself there.
b) Use Consume Conditions for your healing slot. The skill has a strong self heal and adds more per condition consumed.
I use both of the above for levelling in Pve and usually with the Blood is Power skill. The self bleed can either add to my stacks or help in the heal. Bit tricky to time but nice.
Hearing your toon spew some tearful line every time the rat pops and dies becomes annoying after a couple of hours. And personally i cant stand that bleeding ticks – when i was doing 8 damage per tick, watching suddenly a -128 pop near me on the screen was dread, panic F1 and keyboard mash time. One can only hope we can skip it at some point.
