sounds like a local issue on your machine.
reboot.
Rebooting solves it every time.
But this windows install is as pristine as it gets. I shouldn’t have to reboot everytime I want to get into the game. I’ve usually got work open in various apps, which makes it annoying to reboot just cause I want to take a game break. No other game has this issue, I can start them exit, start them again, no problem…
Guildwars2 didn’t have this problem either, until after a patch about a week ago.
DJRiful, you need to read the forums brah.
Most, if not all players are having crappy fps issues, many with top end gear
And making negative comments about my machine just put you into the idiot category. gratz!
He made a negative comment about you giving the wrong info, as the amount of RAM on your video card doesn’t say anything about its performance.
I can’t say anything about crappy fps, as I’m getting 80 fps walking around Hoelbrak on maxed settings, and the game is quite beautiful and smooth with Nvidia’s 3D Vision 2 stereoscopic display tech….
Sure, some other games give me well over 100 fps, but when I compare viewing distances and rendering quality, this game renders perfectly well – at least for me, and I’m not using any crazy dual GPU setup, just a single GTX 670.
Wanting to play this game with only an integrated Intel GPU is stretching it at any rate. Going so low as an i3 processor is really not advisable.
To save yourself frustration, at the very least, you should get an i5, which includes an HD-4000 GPU, which is still pretty sucky, but at the lowest settings, you might at least get a playable frame rate.
An i3 would be fine if you had an additional, dedicated GPU in the system, like the Acer M3 with its GT 640M LE… That laptop is pretty cheap. If you get anything less, you’ll just regret it.
I updated to the latest Nvidia driver 306.23 and I have no problems playing guildwars.
Only getting through the patching phase requires me to restart my system if I ran Guildwars2 already, which is a different problem.
Are you able to get to the contents of the error Guildwars2 generates?

@Madmardagan:
since your system freezes, I presume you have no way of seeing the error GW2 produces… Can you try to check the Windows event log?
I think there’s definitely a problem with the patching process when GW2 starts. It just seems to express itself differently on different people’s computers.
Check if you can rename local.dat and gw2.dat or if you are prevented by windows when you try and post back plz…

Ur Grafix Cardz is old, so the game will not love U !1!
Well, after you’re all through telling the unloveableone that he must upgrade his computer, I’ll have you know that I have this issue on a new computer with the very latest GPU available.
I also doubt the game already chokes on an older shader version when its just downloading patch data at the very start up.

Before reaching the login screen, GW2 usually downloads a small amount of data from the net. Apparently, it tries to write to local.dat and gw2.dat and fails.
I tried running it in administrator mode with no change.
Both files are not locked by windows.
The hard drive is less than half full and shows no errors on chkdsk.
My system is new, with a 1 week old Windows 7 installation and has the very latest drivers as of 3 days ago.
Restarting the computer makes it possible to start Guildwars2 one time. If you exit and try to start the game again without rebooting, it crashes reliably on every attempt.
