I nearly never post on here…

I just want to say thanks to all the folk who actually show scores in creative ways.

Those of us at work could usually care less about the double talk of three servers being represented by the same 20 or so keyboard warriors that apparently are so good they can WvW and post on forums simultaneously.

Keep the creative updates coming!

So. Much. Of. Teh. Rage.

Seriously.

I don’t understand why people get all worked up. It is what it is.

For real.

I just laugh, have fun, and roll with it. Something we can all do easily

And for your listening pleasure, here’s some fine music!

Ooooh couple of things… is that an album?
And …your signature….I always wondered if I was the only one that enjoyed that movie.
I wish GW2 would let us multi server like some other games. I would love to have fun with TC on the PvE/RP side of things but I love my guild to much to leave.

Honestly…. if your posting here while “playing WvW” …. don’t care your server… seems like your short changing your team mates. You could either be taking something, running something, defending something, recruiting someone, or helping that new guy that just seems to be lost.

Is this game..dead?

So lets see. The professional complainers think the game is dead. The entertained are convinced the game lives.
The complainants have numbers to back them, the entertained have numbers to back them….
What to think … what to think…….
Lets see, we also have the content locusts complaining of no endgame, we have the casuals stating that there is more to do it’s not about the endgame.
I see some posts stating in one sentence about no balance with professions yet in same paragraph also make the mistake of saying their all like a particular one….
Hmmmmmm…… so much convincing propaganda from both sides..
What to do ……

They will come. Granted maybe not in abundance… and not sure what PvP rewards your really looking forward to …. for gear and weps you can choose to get it through Karma which easily is obtained through Wv and PvE. More easily in PvE though.
If you haven’t already done it. Try and get into a WvW focused guild. Good ones like the one I am in will be able to show you a deeper side to WvW then you would normally think.
As far as looks… almost anything can be “re skinned” to look like something you have seen before as long as you have it. Better stats of your choosing may be on a not so cool looking wepon…..but that other cooler looking weapon with not so good stats can be swapped as far as looks.
Only points in the game though are the Server points! Everything else is icing. Karma, XP (if your sub 80) you get “honor badges” but honestly once 80 those will come fast and furious to the point your trying to figure out what to do with em all.

First…. gonna have to re train your brain on the idea of “getting behind”. That’s a traditional mindset that countless players are having a hard time getting around. Guardians are indispensable for support type roles especially if your having to defend and hold a choke point. Being at the front ..or even the back … or not being there can be the difference between success and failure. Like they depend on you, you will also depend on them.

Second…. It’s WvWvW…not BG’s ….. what you did helped your server more then you think it did. In Wv that’s more important then anything. A lot of people putting in effort for bigger goals.

Lastly…. expanding on the first point. Try to break all your original playing habits. This is not like the many or few MMORPG’s you’ve played before. There is no BEST build…. some seem more synergetic, but if it isn’t your play style for that build…guess what…its not the best. You will be at a slight disadvantage in lower levels due to gear stats… ANet tries to help with up leveling you when you get in. However until you get the lvl 80 gear. Your just gonna have to be a bit more tactical. Once there though, your pretty much on equal footing whats left is your choice in gear, traits, sigils etc. and more importantly tactics and understanding how to counter each class will be the difference.

Don’t stress about it.
It’s about fun and competition. Play, learn, have fun and don’t be scared to re do your build to see what works. Re traiting is relatively inexpensive.

Can't anyone respect a duel?

in WvW

Posted by: nightmunch.4923

nightmunch.4923

Also I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion of respect or not. Some people just keep with the idea of if it’s red it’s dead.
Another side would also be that maybe they chased a Doly killing party near by and thought you were part of it.
….. or maybe you server mates came ‘round the corner just to see you and the other guy plugging away and not knowing the situation run with the idea that it’s better to ask forgiveness then permission at times and figure they are helping a comrade…..
Or you just missed a big zerg battle around the corner and they are cleaning up with a bit of blood lust ……

The man took the time to post a response to the question out of sheer generosity on his behalf and still others can not just be content.

….Sheesh give em an inch….

Thanks Habib for giving us some kind of insight as to what is going on behind the scenes. A lot of us appreciate the work all the ANet krewe are doing and some of us even understand that the magic wand stops in the game play. And keep in mind the amounts of variations in machines, net speeds, quality of info path and a lot of the other variables that can come into play and not just what they see in the microcosm of a specific neighborhood.

Keep plugging away, its much appreciated!

Servers are filling again.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nightmunch.4923

I realize Anet must have done something to increase the cap or filtered it out or something, since the other week they all went from Full to Very High.

However, now they’re filling up again and I can’t get on the server my husband and Guild transferred to (which is Tarnished Coast). Neither can my sister-in-law.

Are these servers stuck at Full? Every time I look, it never moves from Full. Any Tarnished Coast members know what times I should be aiming for to camp the World Select screen?

Server status is based on the number of accounts tied to a server, not the number of players actively online. Even if Tarnished Coast was completely empty of players it would still read full. Shame Arenanet chose to lie about their subscriber numbers like that. : /

Not sure if serious or trolling. anet doesn’t have subscribers, and the server status do base on number of players online.

One of the community managers admitted to it being based on number of accounts. Denying the truth won’t change it. It’s probably all Arenanet can do to prevent NCsoft from shutting the game down after it failed.

Show me a link until then you’re a troll.

He’s right. Crawl back into your cave thanks.

I posted the link awhile ago. You clearly haven’t checked back up the thread to look, or read it and are going through the stages of acceptance. Anger and Denial are the first two after all.

Have to ask but how did you come to that translation.

"""Hello everyone.

Connor, when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap, independently of where did they create their accounts."""

No where do they say it’s account based and not online based. Just that people have moved to that server (could be online at the moment) not WHERE THEY CREATED their account. However confusing that wording may be…. I do not see a particular reference to “Full” as number of accounts as opposed to number of actively online at that moment.
However there are too many instances where folks have gotten to transfer at odd hours to a Supposed Full server (via your definition) to prove contrary to your interpretation.

Don’t know about the bleeding effect though. Your own argument about how servers are measured would prove difficult to lend credence to your declaration.

Getting 1 shot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nightmunch.4923

nightmunch.4923

I have not ever seen someone get “one shot” . I’ve seen folks get rooted and hammered to death, or anchored and mobbed to death. Heck even with being an Ele I have had to play tag with the occasional thief.

I tried playing a thief. I promise you its not as easy as every one makes it sound. At lvl 40 I deleted it because I realized I just suck at their mechanics.

The only thing that make the thieves thing tough is as has been pointed out time and time again and that’s the culling. Just dont get caught alone…especially if your fragile!
My ele can survive enough of the initial attack should I get caught unawares but never do I get burned down in “One Shot” to where I can’t lose him/her in the crowd. Or atleast get a couple of licks in myself. I absolutely hated dagger Storm….. as a staff ele in Wv that takes about 3 or 5 shots at them out of my attack …. unless I want them headed back to me… until I figured out the ground AoE’s aren’t effected!

Play around ….key word PLAY…one more time ….PLAY….. if its frustrating you …your not PLAYING your competing. Pay attention to what you did… what they did… oh and more importantly….. that he/she that hit oyu the first time…is the same he/she that popped out of stealth after hitting you again.

in WvW

nightmunch.4923

I don’t mind killing people so bad they ragequit, it makes me laugh. Keep alt+f4ing!

There is a common misconceptiont that alt+f4ing is rage quitting, but it is not. Rage quitting is being dominated by another player to such a degree that you say “kitten this game!” and quit followed by either playing a different game, or doing something else altogether such as going to see a movie.

On the contrary, alt+f4ing is a troll technique. People who do this are not frustrated by getting owned, they simply don’t care and their goal is two-fold:

1. Avoid repair costs which average about 1.5s at lvl 80, so for bad players who die constantly, this can add up to quite a bit over time.
2. Deny you the kill. This deprives you of drops (of which precursers are possible) badges, experience, and player kills that count toward your WvW titles.

Rather than saying “kitten this game!” alt+f4 players are saying “kitten you noob! have fun not getting any drops!”. Another difference, is that rather than playing another game or engaging in a different activity, these players simply log back in 15 seconds later to continue to try kill you.

And Parents are financial administrators, janitors are sanitary technicians, and Politicians are representatives.

From the very start the grasp of the FANTASY world your playing in is lacking for you.
Logic has very minimal influence in FANTASY
Examples:
Never met a real world Ettin
Never met a Centaur
Never met a Minotaur
Never seen a hermit crab half my size that will chase me across the beach and be immune to near most anything.
Never seen a dragon….much less one with 4 or 5 smaller heads as a lower jaw with 2 sets of wings and what 4 or 5 tails….
Closest thing we have to Sylvari are Vegans…..
And if I ever meet a real life Charr….. um…. yea….. fight or flight will take over
Just some small but glaring examples of Fantasy ruling in a Fantasy world.
The problem with logic is…. well its too logical, un-imaginative and very very boring.

Why I Have Quit Other MMOs, and love GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nightmunch.4923

I, for one, do not appreciate your sarcasm.

I get that you’re frustrated and don’t have time to play video games anymore because you’d rather spend a few hours a day watching TV but…

I am so absolutely sorry that the original poster might have a job or two, children to nurture, or a wife to make love to occasionally, or even books he wishes or has to read.

I am also sorry to the original poster that he bought a game that was specifically marketed as being for his play style, and that said game has pulled a drastic, kitten 180 to be more suited to you, Kristophoros. I wish the original poster all luck in getting a refund on his mis-purchase should he choose to pursue one.

To start with…. She….. read bud….. “She”..“her”

to the OP…. the one misconception I would like to see everyone grasp is the notion of “Advancement” or “getting ahead”.
This is not a traditional MMO….there has not been a race for an Endgame unless you impose it on yourself. Some bonds are hard to break especially after being conditioned by specific games for years.
To this day I still don’t have a single 80 in GW2 …close….but not rushing it. My play time like yours is very limited also but that doesn’t limit me from seeing content. You just got to understand that even if you don’t see it now ….. doesn’t mean your 5 years behind if it takes you 2-3 weeks to get into that dungeon. Heck most of my leveling came from WvW with my guild. Otherwise I am cruising the landscape looking at the scenery…. enjoying different scenario’s via Hearts, Events or even the random chatter with NPC. I have 4 toons…5th is my daughters.
If it takes an inordinate amount of time for anything consistently check to see if maybe its a server population issue. Or if there is certain events going on thats "all the rage " at that moment. Then understand its gonna be a bit..roll on.
edit: To add in … yes I have done CM before the fix and after, PuG’d this week ends event and some of the Halloween stuff. The other dungeons I am going to come back to along with CM. CM I done 5-6 time all in Story, mostly because for some reason I thought the explorer modes went in level stages…. meaning Story was 35(?) and then maybe Expl 1, 2 lvl40-ish or whatever. Guildy corrected me so now thats more content I get to look forward to.

I can’t remember the official count but we are definitely not lacking in ACTIVE members. Last night’s fun we had to add more organizing to accommodate everyone and keep it flowing as awesomely as always.

Main focus is WvW but we also have dungeon nites for those in need and fridays are free for all. Active times for events mostly about 6-7 pm EST (for me) is when the WvW usually starts. Usually some of the team is already in figuring stuff out before I can personally get on. Never have heard anyone get beat up for being late either… which is a plus. Just jump on the voice chat…..find the map we are on and get in the fray. All they ask that on event nights if your on…. participate, listen, and shoot anything that moves!

What a "casual" player really is, in my view

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nightmunch.4923

I very much should be able to jump back into the game and experience the same content as those who play constantly. I think getting things in game should be a matter of skill and not time played, someone shouldn’t have nicer and stronger gear just because they spend more time grinding for it. And I definitely would mind having to play catchup each time a new item tier gets released.

Time spent acquiring gear and moving through content should mean something, and again, if you can think of mechanics they could add to the game that would result in the most ‘skilled’ (let’s not even try to define that) players getting the best gear, let the ideas flow my friend.

Talking about a pigeon hole. You ask about offering mechanics of a game yet pigeon hole the phrasing of the question specifically around gear.
I think one way would be instead of focusing, as has been said many times in other places, instead of the gear infinitely having to get jacked up stat after stat after stat. Spend that creative flow into challenging the SKILL and PROBLEM SOLVING prowess of players. Let the hardcore get their fix by adding things where they have to think about what they are going to do, watch how the flow of it all is working, maybe try to even re innovate the basic range, melee, AoE trinity of bosses. They done good for towards the tank, heals, dps …so why stop there.

I am in what I consider a Hardcore casual. I want to see the content and dont mind working towards it at all. I am not going to spend my vacation time and every waking moment “farming” for gear however. I don’t even mind trying to schedule time for raiding in WvW or dungeons. However I will not make it 3-4 nights a week. If I can make it that night …awesome! if not…. I should not have to worry about getting chastised by the guild. I spend a lot of time with the new guild I am in because these folks make it fun but they have never once made it feel like I am gonna be on the perpetual ignore list if mid event I get an important phone call.
I will not either break down and try to do the long math to figure out the theorycraft of the game. I like experiencing it….not breaking it down.

I feel that if the gaming community had the right nudge that maybe there’s a chance to find the challenge in the conflict and figuring it out to be the reward instead of that specific seasons/version gear that they had to obtain.

But thats coming from a hard core casual.

Bump…. was taken in by these folks. After several attempts on my own to enjoy WvW…. I got aggravated. I always wanted to enjoy PvP and GW2 had the best attraction to it since thankfully there’s no Macros and lattest and greatest gears.

SPQR took me and showed me the incredibly deep tactical side to it. Finally… tactics are viable in PvP!

SPQR are very friendly and helpful. Very well thought out plans and zero drama thus far. Everyone pitches in and syncs nicely. Even those of us that can’t dont talk on the voice chat. We listen and flow just as easily!

Thanks guys! Past 2 weeks has been a blast!

So why is WvW so boring, what am I missing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nightmunch.4923

OP I would have to say your missing the same thing I was. I tried to go in solo to see what it was like. Grouped up with randoms that were chaotic at best. Found some teams every now and again that had good back and forth battles. Was getting frustrated until I looked into the guild recruitment areas and found a WvW guild that was raved about. They have more then deserved their reputation. The guild is awesome, well coordinated and I have witnessed a deeper tactical aspect of WvW I would have not noticed.
Truly find a WvW guild on your server…. see how they operate. A good one will put so much fun into it, even in the times you may get out numbered on the map.

I came from the other popular MMO and quit arena’s due to getting out programmed (read: macro strings) and not having the play time to keep up with the gear treadmill. Got really disgusted to find that all the tier that I grabbed for that season…. got knocked to the lowest stat setting for the new season….

whatever you say. You still need to brush up on your lore big time though before you go making an ignorant statement about the guild wars again which ended in 1070AE

Ignorant…brilliant choice of words….un-informed. I got to a point last night in my story where it broke it down to after the chaos of destruction that the world broke off into their own guilds of survival and warred with each other for various reasons. Mind you that is very short summary… their presentation was more specific and dark.

How was I off the mark ? in the WvW I think of the servers names as being the name of the specific guilds. Or is it because you, in your interpretation, tend to think about the WvW as an extension of the ongoing story in PvE…. which I would wonder where Eir, Kaithe, or Logan an the others are hiding in the WvW maps. I haven’t seen them.

No…I don’t know the lore. It’s why I am playing and playing a role, my role, through the game. Hitting all the towns, villages and conflicts along the way to hear the stories they have to tell. And jumping in WvWvW to (YES MY OPINION only) go back in time pre 1070 when you said the wars “stopped” and lend my talents to my “Guild” to help better our chances of the day.

I am however glad to see your passionate about it. That’s a good thing. Seems to me you are an example of what I was speaking about. A player immersed in the world in their own way to play out their role in the story.

@Jack of Tears… I can say I wish i knew you in game. Seems running through the wonderful world of Tyria would be entertaining as hell if not straight fun.

I almost hate to reply due to the great back and forth but I wanted to just mention that Noppy was close to dead on about the gist of my post.
I wasn’t strictly talking about Role Playing in a sense of D&D type though I have had quite fun with that also. But also as in the aspect of enjoying the story itself that’s there and allowing the time to immersed into what it is your game world around you is about.
As far WvW and lore…. again… not trying to constrain anyone to one effect or the other. That can be the freedom of RPG. As another has stated, Jack of Tears I believe you do not have to be constrained by the " Theme park" or “sand box” that is specifically laid out if you and others decide that you don’t like what is there. Use the provided world to do your own story telling/creation.
It’s kind of what I feel is behind the idea of “It’s your story”. Put yourself in the role of your character, enjoy the scenery, the story, the idea of the challenge wether it be via what exists or what your (foreign concept it seems these days) Imagination conjures up.
I feel these days MMORPG is just being slated to be a prettier version of the CoD’s. NO story…. no purpose….just another rat race to keep up with the Jones’ .
Games like GW1&2 EQ and even WoW will slowly lose some the best sceneries and details for no other reason then “Why bother 1-X will be a blur….we will just make max cap look relatively playable to induce an atmosphere but give them plenty reasons to shoot at each other and their happy”

Just my opinion and worry

One of my memorable moments in “that other popular game” was when a guild mate had flagged himself PvP. Got into it against another player….. next thing we see in guild chat was the other guy got re enforcements and he was out manned and leveled. So the cry went out for help. Myself and a third guildie rushed there to jump in the frey. When we got there we noticed there was still more of them then us….but 1 was missing. It was the one the original member had downed. We had a "good, bad, ugly " moment where you could even imagine the whistling going on. Shortening the story….. the downed guy rez’d from out of no where, jumped on low level bud and he was lucky to get off a CC before going down. Me and the other guy took the rest of the fight out and came out victorious. That for me was very exciting and very fun! Spontaneous clashes like that are awesome! Talked for months about how it all played out in our heads. There is another group I played with, though not in guild, where we PvE’d a lot. They were husband and wife team and the wife was Heals….but she tunnel visioned a lot. Focused on health bars and not the combat. So I had officially dubbed my toon the “sacrificial lamb” . It was always fun and interesting top see the kind of situations I would have to dig her out of. The joke was that if my toon didn’t die at least once in a dungeon….. she wasn’t trying hard enough.

Those are fun memories I had that kept me playing that game. We all played a role that was fun and kept our own stories interesting. I feel thats what our games now days are missing from it’s players. Not a design flaw. Player flaw. Too many folks wrapped up in competition and keeping up with the best of the best that they have forgotten that FUN is supposed to be part of the equation. Role playing, to become something or some one that you normally aren’t is the other part. Other wise they could just leave off the RPG of the category. Believe me I am guilty of it to. Thats when I got frustrated and quit that other game. Guild Wars 2 appealed to me on aesthetics and freshness and thankfully making strives towards minimizing the elitism that is brought via Gear stats, builds, and all the You gotta have this to be considered to go any further BS. However I wasn’t full on board until my 16 year old daughter…..yes my 16 year old daughter , reminded me of all the things I enjoyed about these games that got her playing them and that I needed to get back to the core of what these games are supposed to be.

Fun, explorative, role playing adventures to either be enjoyed by yourself and/or others with the idea of freedom to do things not factual in reality. So I plunged into Tyria with eyes wide shut and let that world evolve around me. Understanding that yea there’s no hard goals. Yea I want to be 80. Yea I want gold….but those to me mimick real life and that’s not fun at the moment and it doesn’t hinder me to take my time and realize the beautiful fantasy and sometimes nightmarish setting around me.

So what has caused the community to forget the RPG? When did it become about the grind and not the story? Why is it , as one person said “….getting that one pair of pants to fight that different colored dragon” is more prevalent then stopping and seeing the detail of the scenery and the flow of different stories of the NPC’s?

TL,DR : Don’t bother with TLDR your type is already mentioned somewhere above

Hello
Things here at work are extremely slow and I have spent quite a bit of time reading the forums. I have noticed an awful lot of concerns over this and other games that all all I can do is shake my head.

My Simple question…. With the “community” what happened to the RPG—ROLE PLAYING GAME part of these?

I have read so much about how this game is to easy. Or maybe it’s to hard. Or maybe for some it just wasn’t complex enough to have to drag out calculators to figure this stat or that stat out. Or how this or that build is better then another. Or “why didn’t I get the extra special shiney low drop I hate RNG gear drop item!” aspect.

I know there is the MMO part but I think the RPG has long been forgotten. I noticed it in the other major popular game. Its starts with the Harder then Hard core players coming in looking to challenge their minds with puzzling boss mechanics and such which is fine when you enjoy the game. Soon it got lost to the point to where now there is a web site where you can actually see the mind numbing long form math to figure out the best of the best epicness cookie cutter form (I refuse to call it build because it WAS built then COPY/PASTED). Theorycrafters….. Hats off too ya. You decide to tackle the numbers where most don’t and that’s fun to you. I can’t help but think an Online version of Stratego might be better fun for you.

Then there’s whats been dubbed the “Casual Easy button w(h)inners”. That somehow think that’s an in alienable right that since they spent their money on a game sight unseen they are somehow in contract with A-net to be guaranteed that ALL content should/will be seen.

Let us not all forget to the affectionately known “ADDHD Gamer” you know who you are…… the ones who took one of your weeks vacations from work so you could rush to level cap just to find a dead end (really, you should have seen that coming from the last game you left) once you hit cap.

All that being pointed out, and I think I hit the major 3 of the professional complainers, if I didn’t hit your group sorry either you didn’t make enough noise or you have a legit or well rounded concern.

I wonder how many remember that this is a role playing game. Either as a singular character in your own story going through the events of the world as a budding hero trying to gain notoriety and fame among your piers and predecessors. Putting your own little spin or flare to things in your own microcosm. Or ….. even more appropriately with your GUILD experiencing the world and events together forging a group of friend and comrades to fight your way through the challenges the befall each one of you in your collective travels. WvW is a great place for the possibilities of GUILD WARS…. your guild mainly , in my mind, being the server you reside on. And your collective group maybe being the “company” or “batallion” or “squad” of that server.
Certainly many of you have been repeatedly hounded by the same character of a different “guild” in WvW to remember their names and has even maybe brought the notion of pixelated revenge first chance you get. ….to be cont’d….

I totally agree with the original poster. Especially in the Norn story line with the ice imps and the horn. Within several mins I was completely naked and spent another 10 min finishing that scenario while being one shotted because all my equipment was damaged.

I absolutely HATE the level scaling in the personal story quests. They are too hard for many classes and it ends up just being a corpse jump grind.

This was the first one I ran into trouble with. The Ice imps with constant AoE and gang style attack was rough…then….. the Veteran….. took me a while before I even noticed the totem or whatever that you need to burn down before he takes damage again. As a mesmer……the learning curve was steep…. finally a good staff and straffing Finally got the bugger down.

It was hard…. but wasn’t a bother to me to be honest. Brought back memories of trying to learn Mario Bros way back in the day. Progress die…observe,….. progress further die observe….. etc…… final win = mental touchdown dance! It’s when you make me work for it but not impossible to do that makes it worth it to me.
