Let me preface this by saying that I enjoy almost every aspect of the game except for this single mechanic.
I don’t want to cause a flame war and I know this has been discussed at length here and other community sites. I think it’s great that ArenaNet has so many loyal fans willing to defend any decision they make with religious fervor – no, I take that back. I really actually hate that type of attitude. Still, it’s clear that many of you feel strongly about supporting this game, but lets not beat people up for simply having a difference in opinion.
Again, the game has many fun aspects. Even PvP is enjoyable, but the “Downed State” mechanic is just tedious. It’s not that I am having trouble understanding it, but, for me, this ruins the flow of PvP combat. The keyword there is “flow”.
I’m sure there are some people who have found some depth to it (especially since some classes excel at it), but for me it is just a boring minigame that I have to take part in between deaths or between kills.
This mechanic causes weird results in battle that seem more like loopholes than intended strategy. I come late to a battle with almost my entire team down and finish off someone a few yards away from the skirmish and my entire team rallies.
Does that make me an expert tactician?
Did we really earn that?
In the end it’s a game of whack-a-mole in the middle of my fun PvP combat. And when mesmers or thieves are involved that game of whack-a-mole can last a very long time.
I hate whack-a-mole.
