Close Stress Beta and Streaming question.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ninemileshigh.4536

Hello, forgive me for making this topic, and feel free to dismiss it if needed, but I have a question.

Having read carefully the newsletter and the beta, it has been encouraged to share our opinions on the forums and social media. We were told that we will be free to talk about your experiences and to post streams and videos of the content .

Yet I’ve had it brought up by another Beta player how posting a stream or video of the entire Beta experience might be bannable. I don’t see how that can be the case, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. Is there something I missed?

So my question is: would it be alright to post a 2 hour video of the whole experience?

Region: Sweden, Europe
Server: Tarnished Coast

Ported from Sparkfly Fen to Bloodtide Coast during guild missions over an hour and a half ago and have been disconnecting steadily since, same error, no restarting of the client or pc or guesting has helped any. Happened to at least 2 other guildies. Don’t really feel safe to try and log in on another toon to do dailies since two of mine are already unusable and crash the client for me. Help?

EDIT: Went on to do dailies anyway, and can now report 3 toons bugged, third one while loading into Kessex.

I can confirm this. Have a screenshot of my loot just after killing him.
He’s also ridiculously tough, and has all the AC trolls attacks and behavior. It makes running HotW a pain. Can this be looked into, please?

Amazing Update - I'm Genuinly Shocked

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: ninemileshigh.4536

I don’t usually write much on forums, but this time around I felt like I needed to leave my take on the new update. Speaking as a casual, no-legendary wielding, player who ran to the top floor with a party of 3, all light armor, and did nearly everything by intuition; I love this update.

- I like that it offers key parts as drops, but also leaves the option open for people who hate it and want to try their luck buying them. This is an excellent response to the past rng critique in my opinion.

- I like that the lovely skins are available in the gem store instead of the usual Black Lion’s chest ticket collection. Very appreciated. Also good job on the new armor skins from the previous update.

- I love that antitoxin injections make it feel like everyone is collaborating to make Kessex toxin-free again. (It used to be one of my favourite maps before, I’m double driven to help it get unpolluted again)

- I love Kasmeer and Marjory’s dialogue, interactions, voiceacting. Lovely job! Amazing job on coding too; I love that they rush to help downed players and act as good fighting support. (The other NPCs, affected by the toxins, too, offer a really good contour; Senna's sudden exclamation that she doesn't deserve to live was quite unsettling. We crowded around her trying to figure out what was the matter. Unlike most other Living story NPCs, it wasn’t boring to learn what was going on, but actually very immersive).

- I was amazed by Scarlet’s comments in the instances, shudder worthy – in a very good way. She’s a horrible, terrible person – but an enjoyable villain. I’m am immensely glad we have not seen the last of her.

- I love that the final boss evolves; and that the instances were very managable, paced and overall enjoyable; I will definitely be running this a lot.

- The thing that got to me the most though, was the nightmare instances facing significant npcs from one’s own living story. Nothing in this game has truly made me freak out as much as facing my own faction mentor has... that was. Very unexpected. And the dialogue attached... I had to sit back and take 10 to process that actually happened. That was a legitimate nightmare. I speak for myself and a couple of guildies who were on at the time; that was really well played, ANet. You guys deserve a round of applause for this update. In my opinion, it shows you have been listening to the players and have tried to come and meet us halfway. I’m very happy to be playing GW2 and will continue to do so gladly. Thank you!

Housing, Guild functions, RP, Story

in Suggestions

Posted by: ninemileshigh.4536

ninemileshigh.4536

Those are some very interesting ideas and I for one would farm/buy gems for sure if it meant getting housing. Though I can see the problem of “owning land” in an mmo…

Firstly, let me combine 2 of your points here, the Housing and the Guild upgrades; I agree that since the game is called Guild Wars, at the very least, guild messages and housing should be a pressing thing to develop. I’d be alright with a gate slapped somewhere in the cities that would port all members of a guild (not just the 5 in party) into a personalized instance. The removal of culling has made guild roleplaying next to impossible because the emotes carry such a long way and in any higher populated area it’s become impossible to follow or not miss emotes by guildmates. It’s horribly annoying, to the point where I’ve seen people abandon map roleplaying and moving to textual roleplay outside of the game altogether. So I wonder what it would take to develop a guild upgrade where you could get a generic home instance for all members of a single guild to get into, at the very least?

Clothes: I am very grateful to Anet for transmuting crystals and dye change options. No other MMO would allow such creativity. I think they’ve been listening to suggestions in regards of new town clothes or clothes skins, and have been trying to bring more in. Very appreciated, please don’t stop adding new skins; they’re something I don’t hesitate to get gems for if I like them. Same with the hair updates for all races.

One thing that bothers me though, is that the skins look less than stellar on male models, while they look completely bafflingly beautiful on females; for example the Phoenix skin or the Witch costume; it doesn’t even look like the same set. I don’t think there’d be any kind of problem to fix a bit, say, the female Phoenix to fit the male figure and release the male counterpart, fitted for females, as another set. If choosing the skins to release is a problem; why not let the player vote which one they like best? PS: more actual pants/shorts for light armors please, we basically only have long gown-like skirts, save for AC pants and the embroidered leggings…

Minis: I would love the minis being equipped, or even have stats? Very appreciated the fact that some of them have sounds! They’re very fun and sometimes even a stress relief, especially Evon.

Titles: Yes I would love those. Perhaps at least an Order Title; Lightbringer, Warmaster, Magister? I mean, us serving the Orders is a big chunk of the Personal Story, I wonder how come we don’t get to keep the titles we earn through and are addressed by NPCs in it?

Marriage/Couple status: I’m assuming by this, Spira, you’re referring to something similar to what Lineage 2 had? Where, correct me if I’m wrong, but a couple was to do some kind of quest at the end of which they’d both get a symbolic item and of course, the status of being tied to one another. I remember liking the feature, it’s very immersive. Even if it were just a title people could earn/buy together, or physically a ring skin, it would be definitely something I’d work gladly to get, stat.

Living story: I must say the story has been progressively getting more interesting for me personally, but I will agree it doesn’t feel immersive. The events such as Dragonbash and Halloween have left more of a mark on me than the rest of the Living Story, save for partially the Jubilee and the Aetherblades/Scarlet, and I believe it’s because there’s been physical changes to the world. A string of related changes would be nice, which is what I’m hoping Anet is after anyway, and we just sometimes… don’t see the bigger picture? Actually having to help with re-construction or see the consequences of simple player tasks like that sounds very appealing.

So yes, here’s my input. Hope this thread at least grazes the dev team…?

Alone in the Guild Bugg.... Again

Same here, located in EU, but playing on Tarnished Coast AN – same with another friend.

On top of that, I can’t see anyone in party, though I can talk to the rest of the party for a certain amount of time until I’m automatically booted from it.

My contact list shows 2 people online, in unknown locations even if I see them physically standing in front of me in-game.

This is a big problem, it doesn’t allow doing dungeons or fractals as intended, which makes it difficult for people to finish their monthlies too, and this is the last day. Please fix this as soon as possible, this is unplayable.

What is my Sylvari saying?

in Sylvari

I have a very vocal male sylvari elementalist, who chatters a lot when changing attunements:
Earth: “Solid earth!” / “I am rock and soil!” / “Element of earth, hear me!”
Fire: “Consuming fire!” / “I am the flames!” / “Element of fire, obey me!”
Water: “Persistent water!” / “I am rain and ice!” / “Element of water, attend me!”
Air: “Joyous air!”/ “I am the wind!” / “Element of wind, heed me!”

Also. The thing I find most hilarious is when attuning to water grants him regeneration. And even though he’s the one who does it, he still goes: “I’m renewed?!” like he’s honestly baffled it’s actually happening.

He’s similarly awed whenever he gets a rare drop: “You rarely see one of those…!”

I often play with a friend who has a necro sylvari male, and he has the most exquisite lines I’ve heard… I’m not sure I can completely quote all but:

“No rest for you, sweet soul.”
“Your duty lays by /my/ side, now.”

If someone knows all of them, please post them. They’re all said in such a dark, sleek, smooth tone… just wow.

I actually like that my character isn’t the main brave hero Duke Nukem style, tho. It would imply all the other players are, too, suddenly, and that feels a bit ridiculous, being a nation of heroes. Like this, it feels closer to real-life history, where big things happened because of group effort and mutual support. It would also be very off putting when the first gank in WvW would gun you down. You slayed a dragon man, gratz! … but 2 invaders can have you for breakfast anyway, bring the salad topping.

I mean, sure, I grumbled when Trahearne got the sword after /I/ swept the dungeon and the giants clean, thanks a LOT momma tree, way to treat your kids equally… but eh. Saladbolg is not really worth it, the floating butterflies are not really my style, even if I play a very not-manly-looking sylvari elementalist, so Tre can very much keep it.

I don’t hate Trahearne though, he’s such a bookworm dork at times it’s adorable. I mean. Full-fledged fight, we barely make it to the camp in Orr and he goes: “Oh, btw Commander, this was a place where star-crossed lovers used to meet.” Like. Dude… what. Okay… are you hitting on me or something? It made me laugh every time people in instances would cheer and look up to him – they don’t know half of it. Besides, all sylvari are a bit. /intense/ in an odd sense I think. They didn’t know betrayal until humans taught them the hard way etc. They’re dreamers, Trahearne is no different. He’s a bit socially dense, but it’s how he rolls. I would have loved more plant puns thrown at him (or my sylvari) though.

Personal Story and lots of deaths...

in Personal Story

ninemileshigh.4536

Main elementalist here, just finished the entire story mode.

I would have posted complaints for personal quests being too hard, and they /are/ hard – don’t get me wrong, but I think most of them did their job to prepare me for the WvW/PvP, which is something no other part of the game will do, I think. A lot of the story instances required me piping down, standing back, studying the environment, position of the mobs and the accompanying NPCs to get across. Especially on Orr missions, even if I was already level 80 with 4 pieces of Karma gear. I know classes differ, but it’s also how you play it, how you choose the abilities. I went from full-power staff dps build to the d/d close range and you’d think I’d go down like a house of cards now, but I can tank veterans, and most of the time even champions with both glyphs out. I would never have learned how to evade, how to take into consideration casting times of certain abilities, how to know just how to trigger the glyphs to attack for me or to flip attunements according to what I need most at the moment – if the story mode was too easy.

The part of the story that I had most trouble with, even with this build, was the recovering of the Map one, in Orr:

The first part through the tunnels was alright, so long as I kept in check the abilities that propelled me ahead too much so as not to pull too many mobs. Trahearne stood back and threw a single ranged attack every now and then, but the rest of the NPCs were alright. The problem was the full-fledged beach fight. Despite my best efforts, everyone was downed ridiculously fast, me included in the last wave. By the time I respawned at the chekpoint though, the cutscene with the airship happened, so that was a small favor. But I had to tactfully pull the mobs one to two at a time to clear the beach, glyphs and everything, revive one downed NPC at a time, inch by inch. And then, durning the water fight, I had Trahearne die right under the main vilain’s feet in the water. I sacrificed a life just to revive him to 3/4, checkpoint, run back and revive him all the way, by which point he tanked nicely for me, while I nuked like mad.

Arah was ridiculously easy, though. Even if 4 people in my party had never done it before. Got downed once or twice, I think, mostly due to too many things happening and me not even seeing the red circles under my feet, but the rest was a piece of cake compared to 90% of the instances. And I think it’s in grand part thanks to that, that I’ve gotten very aware of all elementalist abilities and I would not have the difficulty changed at all, looking back. Some classes are more straight-forward, some require more tactics, tactics which need to be learned, so. Yeah. I see nothing wrong with instances being as hard as they are. If it doesn’t work, try a different approach, chances are it’s an approach that will come in handy later.
