Okay so well I am not even 80 yet but after reading all this stuff about 40+ hrs of running the same dungeon just to get gear that I could get in like a few hours from crafting, well lets just say that I will only be doing the Story Mode dungeons for just that the story. Screw grinding some dungeons for 40+ for a set of gear. This also kind shattered my conception of how the game was built according to the hype that was given by A.Net Devs before release.
Some questiosn, what happened to drops? Can you not get the gear from bosses? Do bosses even drop Exotics? Why the hell do you I need to run the SAME dungeon for 1300 tokens? Why is there no generic token?
So based off what I am reading gonna rate 1/10. These dungeon grinds sound prettykittenbad, something I would expect from a Korean MMO not A.Net.
You dont need to grind the same dungeon 100x for gear. I have 2 complete sets (armor, trinkets, weapons) of exotics and not a single one is from dungeons. Stats are all similar on all exotics irregardless of where you obtained them, only difference in looks. Dungeons were designed to have fun testing yourself with the opportunity to get nicer looking skins. If you want a certain skin really bad, you will need to run the same dungeon in one of the four to five pathways several times to get it. Otherwise, its a game, have fun; if its not fun, its not for you.
8/10.
Sure its not perfect, but nothing ever is. I like how challenging the dungeons are in explorable mode and I dont give it a 9/10 since there are a few bugs I have run into (some frustrating) and because a large population already have gear they dont deserve and money by facerolling an easy instance; over and over and over and over… yeah. Grats, you probably still suck at the game even in better gear.
The stats from dungeon gear is no better than any other exotic in game. I myself have 0 pieces of dungeon exotics but have 2 fulls sets of exotic gear (tough/vit/power set and power/crit/magic find set). They came relatively easily but are not as “cool looking” as most dungeon sets. Working on my Arah explorable set and nightmare set now, will take a while, but that is okay with me. Nice to have something to work for and not feel “finished with the game” 1 month into it. So far this is only 1 80, I have alts I cant wait to make and play and there have been no expansions yet, and there are still many point on the map to see and go to still. (crystal desert, ring of fire, northern shiverpeaks etc)
I am a little bit curious how this will play out when 1 week comes around, I notice with the 24 hour cycles this. I play on ET, every day when the reset occurs each server is well balance for about 1 hour. After that hour ET and HoD tend to pull ahead by a few hundred to even a thousand or two. By the time I head to bed, we are usually above or behind HoD by about 1-2k; by the next morning when I check to see what happened over night, HoD is always blowing everyone out. Going from a match that is 7400-6800-3000 ish…. to the next morning seeing 50,000 to 14,000 to 10,000. This has happened every day for the last week except the day that SBI beat us for second place and we went down to T2 and won by a lot.
I am not sure if the AA night time crew is gone after the split, just bad compared to the HoD night time group or what is going on really. Seeing the 1 week results could be interesting, but judging from the 2-3 day match ups from before, the first overnight time period dictates a lot.
This is part question, part comment on how funny it is seeing how bad of a bot some of these “players” are. On ET server last night I saw 3 bots farming the same area, woke up this morning and they were still there. Reported them all 2-3x, I know a few guild members did as well and then about 15 or so pugs all were laughing and mentioning reporting them. Its funny watching them, they are far from complex bots right now, they were all thieves and use the same 3 skills over and over and over. There are huge delays in finding mobs and they dont ever run to the next target or area, often the seem to teleport well outside of the normal range of teleport techniques in game. A side note is the items they are farming dropped from around 1s50c to about 91c just in one day… nice for crafters, but bad for the making money on them if you want to actually actively farm them for some money for yourself.
So how long does it take to investigate clearly awful bots and ban them?
I use the heal/condition removal in PvE, spec for 3x mantras… its nice and I add MoP for WvW for a spike… my only dislike is that you need to chant for what seem like an eternity when things are going down and you need one of the skills. At least during chant you can use shatters and other mantras (e.g. casting mantra of recovery I use mantra of resolve to remove a condition, chant keeps casting unbroken).
Was sword/pistol(focus WvW) and staff for all 3 BWEs and then up to lvl 80 in release. After hitting 80, getting some nice gear and trying out GS for the fun of it, I dumped the sword+pistol/focus for it.
Staff is basically mandatory… it offers nice DPS and great def utility and nice combo field. GS however, while I always hated and thought lackluster has started to shine for me. It does way more DPS than any other weapon, lots of AoE capability with shorter CD than staff and focus and for pure aesthetics just looks awesome.
Still have sword/pistol/focus/torch in my bag; however its GS/Staff for me right now.
Queues are certainly bugged. Within guild we have had people queue the same map for 4-6 hours and not get in, then someone logs in, queues and 15 min later get in while the others are still in queue. Log in, log out requeue etc dosnt matter. I feel this is similar to the issues with people buying gems, some can some cant, no logic. Seems something with communication with the client is amiss.
I will also mention I have personally been on both sides of the queue problem. Being on an extremely populated WvW server I queued EB one day. Got in within 5 minutes; asked where guild was and heard people say I have been in EB queue for 3,4,8 hours and not in yet, then I got in and they still in queue. A day later we queued our own map, I waited for 3 hours before giving up, during that time friends logged in and waited no more than 30 minutes. It was all one bug laugh in TS at first, then we realized the game is really busted in many ways… ways that were not an issue in BWEs…odd.
I have reported this at least 20x since BWE 1. I have actually gotten used to not using it any time I am near an uneven terrain, stairs, rocks etc. I also started to use GS more as my ranged weapon to forgo the issue altogether. I am condition build so it hurts to not use staff in all instances, but getting 3/4 the way through personal story lvl 75 (ship) and falling though map 2x in a row was really annoying. Saved it the first time using teleport and portals all over on uneven surfaces, but shouldnt need to do that. Eventually after second time I just restarted, switched to GS and finished it that way.
