Certain elements of the roleplay community have inferred that membership in The Inquest is a mafia style for life arrangement, and that you can never effectively leave. The same has been said of the Order of Whispers, but googling either comes up with no solid results.
So, it seems something that people have just made up or assumed.
Can anybody (or preferably a dev) confirm if the Inquest have any kind of exit policy for people wanting to try a new career path?
Many thanks.
I run a successful roleplay guild. Roleplay does exist.

Like any MMO setting you just need to accept that there are non-roleplayers out there, even if that acceptance is something they seldom show in return.
You are under the assumption that raids were designed for everyone, they were actually designed for people wanting harder content, how they achieved this was making an instance that requires coordination, and optimization.
On the contrary I understand perfectly that it’s intentionally harder content, but I’ve taken teams of solid people into the raid, after studying the fight and we’ve had no luck. We’ve come very close, but we haven’t managed to crack it. Now while I am quite happy to keep trying, many people just gave up due to its unforgiving nature. We had solid builds, using metabattle and the opinions of experienced players alike but people lost interest before we could crack it.
Sadly with nothing else happening in the game, this does give the whole ‘nothing to do’ feeling, and you can argue against my points all you like but it doesn’t change the reality I’m facing of players departing.
I can’t comment on the spread of their efforts, all I’m saying is that their efforts aren’t manifesting in ways that I, nor my guild find enjoyable. I hope that changes soon because I do very much like this game and want to keep playing.
My guild of 90 people has steadily evaporated over the last few months, which is a sad thing. We’re a PVE heavy RP guild that gets a lot of mileage out of the game thanks to making up the stories that we share between us, on top of the slow Living World™ updates.
Rather than me just chiming in with my voice, I can say we don’t care about raids. To our perceptions (and people are welcome to challenge them) far too much effort is being put into this content and other areas of the game are being massively neglected.
The worst part about the raids is that many of us were looking forward to them, however the unforgiving difficulty curve means that we simply can’t get the people in there to do it. I have my ‘A team’ for fractals who are all good people. I have several others who are good players, but to get the raid done you ideally need ten people with:-
• Ascended gear.
• Impeccable ability.
• A reliable connection
It means our guild efforts were hindered. Sometimes one person’s timing was off. One of our people had internet issues. Tempers started to fray after months of banging our heads against a wall with Vale Guardian and people just weren’t having fun any more.
There needs to be a difficulty slider for the thing. Vale Guardian is such an enormous DPS check that I’d argue it’s terrible to design to have it as the first boss. It is effectively blocking anyone but the hardcore out of sections of the game’s story. When that story has previously been provided through Living World updates, I think people have every right to be unhappy.
Personally I do enjoy a good challenge but even I find Vale Guardian to be an extremely unforgiving fight. Even during the times I’ve done it with PUGs, I’ve had to ask myself if I’m really enjoying it. Plus, I shouldn’t have to PUG, I don’t know those people. The whole point of Guildwars is that I should be able to play it with my Guild.

Walther, there’s a saying that something is only worth as much as people are willing to pay for it.
The fact that some people have already parted with the gold isn’t a reason to avoid fixing something that’s broken. You parted with that gold of your own volition whereas I on the contrary, have boycotted scribe because it’s nonsense.
There’s simply no way you will get compensated for it, no more so that those of us who made soft wood planks at four logs a go will be compensated.
As one of the leadership team of a ‘smaller’ guild we took a lot of solace in the claim that Anet would be embracing the minnow guilds of the game. At the great expense of our members we’ve managed to scrape out a level 40 hall, but some of the costs involved are astronomical. I don’t see how this has ever been a friendly system for a smaller guild, but even worse than the guild hall upgrade costs are the scribing costs.
One of the features we paid for with HoT was guild halls, yet we’re really struggling to enjoy it because of the sheer amount of grind involved.
Coarse Sand inflates the cost of -everything- because so much of it is required and it drops so infrequently, out of just two maps.
Brown Pigment drops rarely, has an insane BLTC cost and is required in everything.
Another very sad thing is that there is basic, simple furniture that has a cost well above reasonable. I don’t want to pay 300 gold for a tiny, ugly wooden shelf. I’d begrudge paying 10% of 300 gold.
It would be really great if we could personalise our halls, but at the moment the cost is so very prohibitive. It’s nice to see Anet acknowledge this and I hope that reasonable adjustment comes soon.
Remember the game is supposed to be fun. We should enjoy decorating our hall, and trying to scrape together thousands upon thousands of materials is the opposite of fun.
Last year bobble heads were annoying to some people and we wanted the option to turn them off.
Nice to see you listened to people and lumped us with something even more annoying and unavoidable this year. Funny for 5 minutes, not 24 hours.
I’m going to be one of those killjoys and say this just made me log out, and I now won’t touch the game until Thursday.
Really irritating that they didn’t take on boards last year’s complaints about the bobble heads.
Sure a lot of people like it, others (like myself) find it annoying as all hell and wish they’d have included an option to turn it off.
This is so very bad, even if you are offering refunds.
I paid for goods from you, and now you’ve decided to change how that works. It is an awful system.
I used to be able to mix and match town cloths, and dye them. Now I can do neither of those things and my characters are stuck in their armoured appearance. I was hoping that I could take those skins I bought and put them over my existing ones.
It’s really, really disappointing and has seriously de-valued the game for me.
It just looks rubbish to have this thing flopping about on the screen, even if I wanted to just run some dungeons.

Heh, you people are funny. You can’t make me angry so if you’re fishing for an argument here you won’t get one.
I’m not entitled. I’m a paying customer and I’ve a right to voice my opinion. I know it’s not a huge deal. I’ll just come back tomorrow.
I just think this wasn’t entirely thought through or considered.
I didn’t say I’d quit game. Nor am I assuming I’m speaking for everyone. I do know I’m speaking for a lot of people though.
Your joke is hilarious. I guess I’ve got no hope of getting into game and actually doing any of my RP plots today then?
Seriously role players don’t get a lot of love in this game as it is, then you pull this bobble head stunt.
Sure, some find it funny. No doubt trolls will come swarming saying ‘lighten up’ or ’it’s only for one day’.
It still means I can’t play the game how I want to today, so thanks.
Really good article. Well put together and sums up the frustrations of many.
I co-run an RP guild that also does a bit of WvW. It’s ‘The Mists’ after all.
PVP is generally not my most favourite element of the game though. This game lends itself to RP really well, but it’s disheartening for me to see so little investment towards it. Recent news suggests a focus on PVP. The reward chests suggest a focus on PVP. Some new stuff to balance things out would be nice.
