Maybe not the place to ask this, but is the legendary backpack for fractals still on the table?

Have to ask Mike, but…does this also apply to legendary armor?

We’ll deliver both. This is about legendary weapons.

Mo

Thank you, Mike. I understand it’s hard to make unpopular decisions, and I really do appreciate this response. This goes a long way toward soothing my concerns, so thank you.

Shame to hear about the weapons, but I think a lot of people are overreacting. Indefinitely suspended is not always the same thing as cancelled…and I absolutely think there is a need to focus in on fixing the game when you have entire game modes in desperate need of some attention.

Have to ask Mike, but…does this also apply to legendary armor? Are those of us currently doing the collection achievements for raids going to one day suddenly find out that all of that effort is meaningless because you are not releasing legendary armor? Reaaally hope not…

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

pachex.9723

The issue isn’t the price for me. The issue is the trust. I was honestly expecting to pay $50 for the expansion, and it is no surprise to me that ended up being the price. But the bundling the core game into the xpac for ‘new players’ (lets be honest, really this is a slap in the face for all existing players, because it is now better for you from a monetary perspective to purchase a new account rather than upgrade your old), the FAQ editing, the 3 REALLY TERRIBLE bundle options (Ultimate edition is a win/win for Anet, Delux edition is a bad deal for your money, and Regular edition is a giant screw you to existing players)…

These things and a string of previous experiences point to a company that has forgotten the value of loyal players. If they want to continue incentivizing new players over old that is their prerogative, but they should understand the ramifications. I personally have 6 inactive friends who WOULD have purchased Heart of Thorns if not for this slap in the face. Now they will not. As for me personally, I will likely wait for a 50% off sale, whereas I would have paid the full $50 if they hadn’t destroyed my trust.

New Player Experience Bugs - Multiple Characters

Gonna level with you Anet, I’ve been a loyal customer since the beginning of GW1, and this leveling system is hands down the biggest mistake you have ever made. Multiple characters aside, I wouldn’t want to go through this terrible system with my FIRST character. Honest to kitten, I would not have bought Guild Wars 2 if this was your leveling system at launch. Describing this as a “bug” doesn’t even BEGIN to do justice.

I really appreciate the transparency that you guys are starting to show. It’s a really great trend, and I urge you to keep it up.

I also really appreciate that conjure weapons are starting to get some more attention. They definitely do need more support options. The biggest problem with conjure weapons in my opinion, though, is the fact that you are really limiting the potential of the elementalist class by deciding to use one. The elementalist usually has 20 weapon skills to cycle through, but the moment you pick up a conjure weapon, you limit yourself to 5. The elementalist is also squishy enough that often times you really can’t get much use out of the conjure weapon before you have to drop it to go into water and heal. Really the only ones that see any use currently are lightning hammer and frost bow, and the idea for each of those is usually to buff yourself as much as you can, conjure the weapon, and do as much as you can before you are forced to drop it.

I saw someone else mention on this thread the idea of making elementalist conjure weapons their version of a weapon swap, and I think that would be a very elegant solution. When I summon a frost bow, let me be able to switch back and forth from my regular weapon set to the frost bow for the entire skill duration, or until it runs out of charges. This would make conjure weapons infinitely more useful as well as alleviate (to a certain extent) the complaint that most elementalists have had since launch about not having an out of combat weapon swap.

Personally, I have been on the side of the fence that argues there is no reason for eles NOT to have an out of combat weapon swap, but at the same time, I would be willing to give that position forever if you allowed us to “weapon swap” our conjure skills for the full duration or until we run out of charges.

Just want to chime in for a moment. I appreciate many of you taking the time to give your opinions on each of these suggestions, but I just want to point out a few things:

1. These are not my personal suggestions (some of you seem to be tailoring your responses like they are). They were collected from various posts on reddit and these forums, though I do agree with many of them.

2. Yes, some of these are picky. That’s the nature of a “comprehensive list.” Ask yourself, “in a perfect world, what would GW2 look like?” Those are the kinds of things that will end up in this list, so long as they are valid suggestions.

3. I’m fully aware that Anet may never get to many of these. Again, “comprehensive list”. That said, it is NEVER a bad idea to let a game developer know what the player base would like to see. Ultimately whether or not they implement them and how they choose to prioritize them is their choice.

4. While I value your opinions, the truth is I am more looking for any suggestions that I may have missed. As I said, these are all suggestions that I found on reddit and these forums that garnered a decent amount of community support. In other words, many players already think they are valid suggestions. What I want to know is anything that I may have missed.

5. Just because there may be a way around a particular inconvenience does not mean it is no longer an inconvenience. Bad design is bad design, even if you have a relatively easy way around it. Please remember that. This post is to point out areas of design that could use improvement. After all, these are the suggestion forums.

I will update some of the suggestions that many of you have mentioned as soon as I can find a decent chunk of time to do so.

31. Dungeon Party Leader:

Many players complain about this feature. A person starts a dungeon, leaves the party/is kicked/switches character, and the whole party is kicked out of the dungeon. Surely there is a better way to handle this issue.

32. Customizable Sell Button:

Would be very nice to have a button on vendors that you could customize to “sell all whites”, “sell all blues”, etc.

33. Improved Lighting/Clipping:

There are many places in the world, such as the huntsman station of lion’s arch, where the lighting is really strange. If you shift the camera slightly, the terrain completely changes color. Also, many weapons and armor still have clipping issues. Not a QoL change in that this is more of a bug fix, but would be nice to resolve. Also, Charr armor. Enough said.

34. Improved Alt Mechanics for WvW:

The WxP required to level even 1 line fully is so ridiculously high that those of us with alts can’t possibly hope to be effective with anyone unless we pick one character to WvW. We shouldn’t have to pick 1 character to WvW. Not saying account bound WxP and Rank is the best way to go, but SOMETHING needs to be done.

35. Grace Period for Disconnects:

This is especially important for items like the new invasion content. If I d/c 35 minutes into the invasion, and reconnect 30 seconds later, I should be sent back into the exact overflow that I came from. Furthermore, I should also receive the completion reward that I earned when the event ends. So many games deal with d/c so much better than GW2…

36. Batch Purchase from Vendor:

Like the trading post suggestion I mentioned, it would also be nice to have some sort of interface to batch purchase from vendors. I’m looking at you again, orrian jewelry box.

37. First Person View:

Having the camera zoom in just that little bit further would make would be photographers out there very happy.

38. Disable Allied Targeting:

This goes along with #1 and #2, but I do not need to target my ally in combat. Ever. Period.

21. Toggle Type Ctrl/Alt Feature:

Holding Ctrl and Alt is all well and good, but why not simply make them toggles instead so we can use our fingers elsewhere? Tap the button once, you see names. Tap again, names disappear.

22. Salvage Kit that Removes Upgrade without Destroying Item:

This needs to exist. I am fickle with my gearing. I change my mind a lot on which runes and sigils I should be using. It sure would be nice not to waste those 15-20 gold worth of runes when I decide I want to switch to something different. Make it a gem store item. I honestly wouldn’t care.

23. Auto-target Individual Skills Feature:

I can’t even imagine how much better this would make my game play. There are certain skills (such as ride the lightning) that I definitely never want to auto-target, and so I play with the feature turned off. That said, I can’t imagine myself casting a dragon tooth and not wanting it to target an enemy. Would be really nice to have the option to do both.

24. Dye Template Saver:

Much like the build saver, this would be much nicer than simply memorizing which dyes you used.

25. Minipet Manager:

Minipets really need a slot in the Hero or perhaps Inventory panel where they can be stored and activated at will. They also need to persist on changing zones. This would likely make many more people ACTUALLY USE their minipets.

26. Automated Consumable Buff Queue/Consumable Keybind:

Place X food and Y wrench booster in their respective slots. Your character will auto renew the consumables on their expiration until you either run out of consumables or remove them from the slot. Would also be nice to have a consume keybind so that we don’t have to open our inventory every time we eat something.

27. Automated Guild Boost Triggers:

Give guild leaders and officers the option to renew boosts such as the 24 hour karma buff automatically upon expiration and queue another built so long as there is influence available.

28. Personality System:

Does charming, dignified, or ferocious actually do anything? If it doesn’t, either make it do something or remove the system from the game.

29. Squad Interface:

The purpose of a squad is to bring together multiple parties. They have absolutely no meaning if you can’t SEE the members of the other parties. Perhaps show the location of each party leader on the map with a different colored circle?

30. Town Clothes:

What is the point of these? At least in GW1 you had costumes that you could wear over your armor. Town clothes seem absolutely pointless in their current form.

11. LFG Tool:

Hopefully this is forthcoming.

12. PVE Skin Locker:

In a game that is all about the cosmetics, it’s really a shame we do not have one of these. At the very least, it needs to be a storage panel that holds a piece of every weapon and armor in the game. Preferably, the skin should be able to be withdrawn ad infinitum, much like the zenith weapons are currently, although I can understand there might be implementation issues with that. I don’t think Anet fully realizes how big of a deal this would be to skin collectors, and how many potential sales this could result in for them during skin sales. There are people out there who HAVE to have everything if it is something able to be collected.

13. Customizable UI:

I understand the game is young, but I honestly can’t believe we still don’t have this. GW1 has this, and that game came out a very long time ago.

14. Colorblind Options:

I have heard it stated somewhere that roughly 8% of the human race is color blind. To those people, the red/orange colors that Anet seems to favor to warn you that you are about to die can be pretty much invisible.

15. Auto Stacking of Deposited Bank Items:

If I have 245 omnomberry bars in the bank already, and I deposit 5 more, I should have ONE stack of 250 omnomberry bars. This is basic functionality in most every game with a bank.

16. Consume All/Open All:

Especially with the new drips of liquid karma that are being awarded via champ farm, we need an option to right click/drink all. This would also be great as an open all feature for bags of loot, orrian jewelry boxes, etc.

17. Batch Mystic Forge Creation:

I don’t see why this should be any different than batch crafting. If I place enough items into Zommoros to make 20 charged lodestones, I should have the option to make 20 lodestones should I so desire.

18. Call Target System:

I should be able to call targets even when I am not in a party. Furthermore, I should never lose the target that I have called unless I call a new target, the target dies, the target stealths, I dismiss the target, I leave the zone, or I get some OUTRAGEOUSLY LARGE distance away from the target.

19. Show WvW Borderland in Guild Panel:

If my guild friends are playing WvW, I should be able to see which borderland they are in; I shouldn’t have to ask them.

20. Account Wide X Slot Bag:

This is something that altaholics like myself would likely cut out their left nut for. This concept was implemented in minecraft tekkit, and would be a good idea in this game as well. Basically, this is a bag, which you can craft, which you can store items in, much like our current invisible/junk/etc. bags. The items in the bag are part of a shared pool across your account. Any character on your account can access and use these items so long as they, too, have one of the linked bags.

Ex: Character A crafts an account wide bag and puts 2 omnomberry bars in it. Character B crafts another account wide bag and sees the 2 delicious looking omnomberry bars inside. Character B then eats 1. After all, they look delicious. There is now 1 omnomberry bar left in the bag for either Character A or Character B to eat.

1. Tab Targeting System:

The current system targets yellow mobs and does not prioritize champs/vets/normals. Pressing tab should never have me target the moa standing beside me when there is a giant champion pirate beating the crap out of me. It should also prioritize champs over vets and vets over normals. As a side note, I would also love to see a drop all targets keybind so that I can ride the lightning without having to find a spot of empty ground to click with my mouse first.

2. Mouse Pointer:

The mouse pointer blends in with the background and can be easily lost during combat. Sometimes I could swear it disappears entirely. This issue is exacerbated by the fact that the tab targeting system is less than functional. You want to target a champ mob and your mouse disappears? Good luck targeting it over that moa standing beside you.

3. Trading Post:

The trading post is in serious need of a rework. Back items still do not show up on filters, not all items are even covered by filters, you cannot batch purchase multiple items, cannot list under vendor price, etc. I could go on all day about how many issues the trading post has. As a potential solution, I’m envisioning something like a spreadsheet style UI. It has a check box next to the item name, a toggle for place an order/purchase, the current lowest sell price, current highest buy order, a quantity field (where you type how many you want), and (if that particular checkbox is toggled to order mode) a field to input the price at which you want to order. The user then check marks all the stuff he wants to buy, fills in the quantity and (if order mode) price, and batch checks out.

4. Conditions:

Conditions do not benefit from precision or crit damage as they cannot crit. They are also artificially capped. The fact that direct damage is prioritized so highly in the current meta in terms of gearing can be largely attributed to these facts. I honestly do not have a good solution, but something definitely needs to be done about conditions.

5. Defiant and Crowd Control:

I understand why we have defiant, but it needs a massive rework. CC is supposed to be one of the “new holy trinity” aspects that Arenanet pushed at launch. It will never live up to that so long as every boss can resist CC to an outrageous extent.

6. Commander Titles:

There is honestly not much functionality to a commander title. Not to mention, they can be bought and turned on by any player with enough gold. Why not have varying grades of commander title? Squad leader? Captain? Colonel? Field Marshal? The initial title of squad leader could be the one we have now, which is bought. Subsequent ranks are earned through WvW. Field Marshals could have unique abilities facilitate the coordination of the entire borderland, whereas captains would have abilities to facilitate the coordination of several squad leaders. In any case, there needs to be SOMETHING meaningful that commanders can do to set them apart other than stacking for supply check.

7. Guild System:

Also needs a serious overhaul. Ability to represent more than one guild and split the influence earned, ability to see guild chat for multiple guilds, guild calendars, improved visibility of the message of the day, last seen online, ability for an officer to mass pm or mass mail all guild members, etc. are all features that really need to be in the game. Perhaps even alliances or alliance chat?

8. Mail/Chat System:

The suppression system for mail/chat is too heavy. I get that this is to prevent spam bots, but the fact is that I should be able to mail my friends/guild members as many items as I want. I also shouldn’t get suppressed in WvW for calling out static fields like my commander wants me to do.

9. Out of Combat Weapon/Gear Swapping:

Look, I play an Elementalist, and I am well aware that the ability to swap weapons in combat would make me pretty overpowered. I get that. I’m not arguing for that. That said, there is no reason not to allow us to bind alternate weapons, or even gear to an alternate slot that we can switch between out of combat. We already do this. You just open your inventory, right click the equip slot, and pick which weapon/armor piece you want. There is no good reason at this stage in the game to still have to swap weapons and armor via manual click and drag. We should be able to have a pane where we store alternate sets of weapons and armor that we can cycle through at will outside of combat without having to use half our inventory space carrying around situational gear. Period.

10. Build Saving/Trait Swapping:

Along with weapon/gear swapping, we are in dire dire need of build saving/trait swapping. We had a great system for this in GW1. All Anet needs to do is copy that system exactly. By all means, they can even charge me the 5 silver straight from my UI instead of making me run all the way back to a city and I WILL NOT COMPLAIN.

Let me just start by saying that I love GW2, and I am extremely impressed at the rate with which Arenanet puts out new content to keep me interested. I also want to throw out there that the purpose of this post is NOT to bash Arenanet or QQ about the lack of certain features. I think they are doing a good job. That said, and precisely because I like this game and want it to continue to succeed, I have decided to come up with a comprehensive list of quality of life changes that the player base would like to see in the game. If this is a good enough list, hopefully this will eventually be brought to the attention of Anet. Obviously, I know that fixing all of these issues immediately isn’t possible, and we should not expect them to do so, but it never hurts to let a game developer know the kinds of features that the player base would like to see in their game.

Please let me know if you have any more changes that you would like to see that I haven’t covered, and I’ll add them to the list. Remember, I am talking about quality of life changes, not content. Since it is likely to be a long list, I will post them in the comments section so as not to present the Great Wall of Text.

These items are listed in no particular order of importance.

Anet's stance on the selling of party slots

On topic though, they were perfectly fine with it in GW1, although that could be because there was no way to scam people other than leave when you got payed, but nothing like here where you can kick people and invite new players to fill up the spots, because you couldn’t join an instance once it was created.

I don’t see what they could possibly see wrong with it though, since it’s not harming anyone.

Well, also remember that in GW1 the economy was even more broken than this one.

I pretty much agree with you on the fact that skilled players soloing dungeons and then selling boss slots really aren’t hurting anyone at the moment. That said, it would be nice to have Dev confirmation, because this wouldn’t be the first time in this game that a practice that seemed “OK” at first ended up being not so OK in Anet’s opinion.

I am more concerned with potential future outcomes to the spread of the practice. While it’s limited to a few skilled players soloing dungeons, sure, why not…But what happens if the general public decides to start charging people just to party up with them for dungeons because they consider themselves “L33T”?

Also Bright…wtf man? How does it hurt you for me to post on here? Worst case scenario a miracle happens and we get a response saying probably what you have already said. Then you would have a legitimate source to back up your position. I don’t see how that could be a bad thing for you.

Also note, I never once said anywhere, either here or on reddit that I don’t think people who didn’t do the paths don’t deserve the rewards. I am just worried about the negative impact that the widespread practice of selling party slots for gold could cause for the game as a whole. There’s no reason to be rude.

Would really like to see a Dev response on this one. During the past week over on reddit, there have been a couple of posts about people selling party slots for dungeons. Here is one example.

http://i.imgur.com/LEqa6hv.png

I know that some of these people are just skilled players who have soloed a difficult dungeon and are trying to earn back some money for the time they spent. That said, there are also players out there who will kick a party at the end of a path and then sell the slots. The average player can’t really tell the difference.

What is Anet’s official stance on selling party slots? What do you as the community think about this practice?
