Honestly, there’s no telling what’s going on with contribution. I’ve seen weird occurrences like you’ve listed. I come in at the end, as a guardian, do one ability and get a gold medal. However, I can be around for a world event like a boss, do damage the entire time and forsake getting others up because it takes too much time, and I’ll receive nothing. No medal at all.
If you say something about not getting credit for a boss kill, you’ll often get told, “Do damage.” I’m sorry, but that’s not what I want to do. I want to support my allies, but ANet’s contribution system does not reward that gameplay. I know there’s no holy trinity in this game (supposedly), but if that were actually true, there wouldn’t be a healing stat.
I submitted a feedback ticket about this issue and was responded to with, “Post this on Twitter, Facebook, etc.” It was adorable considering I’m not sure things like this will get much attention. Too many players assume the system is golden and doesn’t require work, but it does. Otherwise, players who like to play as a support character or even a tanking character will find another game to play. Probably one that rewards them for doing a role and doing it well.
Problem 3: No Ownership.
I can’t stress enough how big a problem this is. It occurs with banners as well, but when a mortar is lost you’ve wasted an elite and you’re not getting to play your class. That’s unacceptable.
There are malicious folks who will take the mortar and just sit on it until it disappears. They won’t even use it either. This is similar to a person who picks up a banner and speeds out of the area with it.
My husband’s main is an engineer. He doesn’t care if I use it, but I don’t because he loves it. He wants to use it; that’s why he spent 30 points on it. HE wants to use; he wants to support those around him with it. He pops the elite in order to use it himself. Tonight, he got knocked off so he plopped another turret down before he jumped back on his mortar. Sure enough someone managed to use that 1 second to get on the mortar.
That is unacceptable. I mean, someone doesn’t get to knock me off of my Tome of Courage book and use my heals as a guardian. Someone doesn’t get to magically take over my Snow Leopard form and leave me scratching my head. Someone doesn’t get to use my character to become a Juggernaut…
Why should an engineer lose the mortar he wants to use? Why should a warrior lose the banner he wants to use? Those abilities belong to those characters; other players should ABSOLUTELY NOT be able to take that away from them.
Yesterday, I saw some NPCs drop banners which was a first for me. I couldn’t pick their banners up so I’d love that functionality to extend to player banners. More and more I’m witnessing people pick them up and completely leave the event or area. They do this quickly of course, because of the speed boost, leaving my warrior with a cooldown, no buff, and without the abilities I’d like to occasionally use while my banner is active (like the regen).
I really hope this gets updated like the ranger pets did. That was a welcome change and I’d love to see something change about banners.
Armorsmiths can make this armor at 125 with the use of an insignia recipe sold for karma at any armorsmith trainer. It’s called Gladiator (so Gladiator Helm, Gladiator Pauldrons, etc.)
Or make it so only you or your party members may pick up your banners.
THIS. Also, the mortar needs to function like this as well.
I love my banner warrior, but it’s hard to stomach folks running off with your primary tool. I get that it’s not always a malicious act, but it’s always bothersome.
Also, since the “F” does everything it’d be nice to be able to place my banner without annoying people trying to loot.
I’m about 50% complete with the entire map. I have to do the hearts to complete a map. I have one big problem with hearts.
The one thing that was supposed to not happen in this game happens all the time within a heart. You compete with those around you or they hinder your progress in some way. This happens in several ways but a few examples are:
A) There’s something to activate on the ground. When clicked it disappears for everyone for a period of time opposed to it being instanced/phased to everyone like crafting nodes.
B) People race each other to kill mobs and sometimes the mobs just don’t respawn like they should for the amount of people around.
C) If you’re playing in a group, these elements will directly force you to compete with your group. We don’t share a heart nor can we tag things for each other. If something is on the ground to click and I click it, it disappears for my groupmate.
Of course, not all hearts are like this. But the ones that make you compete with others, race against others, or wait on others are horrible. They’re boring and, yes, a more traditional quest might be better in those examples.
