Why do you need Torment when you have swag?
QFT. I think subconsciously, this is a part of the reason I love my engineer. Nerfs be kitten ed, I continue to feel that no other profession comes close to the ridiculousness of the Engineer. High skill floor? Check! Ugly hobosacks? Check! Requires attentiveness to detail and crackerjack timing? Check! As a result, I feel like a great deal of swagger is in order. I’m not in this for easy mode; I’m in this to kick donkey, take names, and chew bubble gum*.
*I’m all out of bubble gum.
You go the same speed. Enjoy your placebo.
I believe there are a number of comments that indicate folks realize they all go the same speed. However due to the small stature of the asura, ground travel has a visceral sensation of speed because of how fast they have to move their limbs to cover the same distance a larger model does. Do you even know what the word placebo means?
Quoting for emphasis. Yes, we all realize that the different races all move at the same speed, and jump the same height, as measured in game world units. However, the ratio of distance covered to avatar height differs greatly between the tall Norn or Charr and we Asura. This leads to a PERCEPTION of faster movement.
The apparent overcompensation when stopping or dodging is simply to make the lesser races feel like they do something better than we Asura, too.
((A big part of the charm for me is the slightly cartoony feel. And the feeling of raw speed. And the implication that we’re just barely in control of the forces we unleash.))
Could someone clarify this for me ?
To she’d some light, once a change requires text, the minimum turnaround is 4 weeks on translation alone.
I don’t understand how a change like for scope would require text. Is not text only for tooltips ?
About the 4 weeks for translation, translation of what ? Of the tooltip again ? How could a single translation require 4 weeks ?
I want to clarify that this is not a criticism/taunt/ putting into question the work done, I just want to understand.
I’ve just recently gone through a localization experience with one of our apps (I work for a small development shop), and a four week turnaround for even a single translation is pretty quick, actually. You have to get the text to a translator for each of the different languages (a quick look at the top of the page here shows four languages for these forums alone). Remember that ANet has stated that they hope to support Asian languages, so it would be fair to state that changes now will include translations for those keys so they don’t have to have it done later.
Once the translators have the final text, they do their thing, then the ANet dev team has to integrate those keys into the build. Finally, assuming they are following Best Practices™, the build is delivered back to the translation team for review/verification IN CONTEXT. We found this to be a crucial step in our app – the text alone doesn’t always provide enough detail for an accurate, idomatic translation. The review may result in translation changes, which need to be integrated and reviewed. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Hope this helps!
Will get crap from Guild for this, Go wings.
You have been removed from the guild. Expect a canned letter that is demeaning in nature and littered with impersonal condolences.
So pretty much the same treatment I get going into Irc normally. Sweet.
Knatty: this is done.
;)
- Elixir S now also immobilizes the Engineer in order to prevent seizures caused by the Asura + Elixir S camera bug.
/sarcasm
While ANet does seem to be slowing buffing turrets, unless they add wheels to them and have them follow you around, the lack of mobility will continue to make them a distant second choice while building specs. With that said, I would love to see them with wheels following me around.
