Any plans for VOIP? Curse Voice has been really successful for Smite and I’m hoping that Arenanet will consider this system for sPvP.
I’m having this same problem. When I leave the finisher page by going “back” it will change it back to the basic finisher from the one I just selected. Doesn’t do it every time, but a lot of the time.
I think we should have the ability to buy a custom amount of Gems with Gold, basically have the capability of the old system and if guys want to leave this in for new players that’s fine with me. But please don’t force veterans who have used the old system and like it to be forced to use something that forces us to buy more Gems than we need.
For as long as we don’t have custom gold to gem conversions I will not be buying gems or converting gold to gems. It’s that simple for me. I rarely post on the forums but for this I had to say something. Quite shocking change honestly. I’ve been a loyal player since the head-start, never expected to see this happen.

May 7th I put in this ticket…. I’ve never waited so long for some sort of resolution :/
596928 – Sent this support ticket on May 7th, no word yet on my situation.
I think giving all Rank 55+ Dragon finisher is a bad idea and punishes people that have really put a lot of effort into sPvP because it’s no longer going to be a unique finisher. Please ArenaNet, raise the ranks for everybody but only by about 10 ranks. Dragon finishers should be VERY UNIQUE not for current Rank 55~.
Go back to the old system. This new system isn’t fun at all. I’d rather play servers that are equal in rating than stomping lower rating servers to the point where they don’t even want to play WvW.
Seriously, go back to the old system. It was better than this. Way better.
Any developers take on something like this? I think it would be something for the community to compete for, and make a yearly event like this would probably get a lot of attention in the gaming community as a whole. Any developers want to share their perspective on something like this?
This is actually a bad idea. A WvW cup encourages people to join on servers that already have a greater WvW presence than one that doesn’t. As such servers become more unbalanced in WvW.
If there are rewards from winning a Cup this furthur encourages people to leave behind lower population servers, which breaks up communities and is overall bad for the game.
ArenaNet needs to get more people to the lower population servers not the other way around.
Easily mitigated. Lock server transfers leading up to this event, unlock them after its over. Server transfer only effect WvW anyways because guesting is available.
If they eliminate coverage being the deciding factor, then this would be a great idea.
The idea is this would be a big once-a-year event. Coverage on all servers would be elevated.
Wishful thinking anyone?
It may be wishful thinking, but you don’t think a competitive once-a-year event would bring more people out to WvW? I think you’re underestimating how REAL competition works. Right now, there is no real competition, and that’s why coverage suffers on lower tier servers (among a multitude of reasons, of course).
If they eliminate coverage being the deciding factor, then this would be a great idea.
The idea is this would be a big once-a-year event. Coverage on all servers would be elevated.
Word.
What happens when you get knocked out of the tourney?
You would play other knocked out servers just like normal WvW match ups we have now.
(edited by phfresno.1230)
Instead of the new change that was put in place to match up servers for WvW, why not do a yearly tournament with a group stage and knockout bracket to determine a World vs World Cup Champion. This tournament would take 6 weeks. After each round the servers that are eliminated would play each other like a normal week of World vs World.
Here’s how it would work:
Group Stage:
Four Groups of Six Servers. Seeding based on the Ranking. Three weeks (rounds) at the Group Stage. Because of the number of servers, each server will play at least one other server twice in this stage. This is a points based system. 3 points for first place, 1 point for second place, 0 points for third place. Top 3 Servers from each group moves on to the Knockout Stage. Seeds for Knockout Stage is based 3-1-0 points system with tie breakers determined by accumulated points in-game.
Group 1:
Seed #1
Seed #8
Seed #9
Seed #16
Seed #17
Seed #24
Group 2:
Seed #2
Seed #7
Seed #10
Seed #15
Seed #18
Seed #23
Group 3:
Seed #3
Seed #6
Seed #11
Seed #14
Seed #19
Seed #22
Group 4
Seed #4
Seed #5
Seed #12
Seed #13
Seed #20
Seed #21
Knockout Round:
First Knockout Round is 4 games of 3 servers. The top 2 servers from each match-up will move on to the Semi-Finals, the last server to move on will be which ever remaining server has the most accumulated points from the week’s match-ups.
Group Stage #1
Group Stage #8
Group Stage #9
Group Stage #2
Group Stage #7
Group Stage #10
Group Stage #3
Group Stage #6
Group Stage #11
Group Stage #4
Group Stage #5
Group Stage #12
Semi-Finals will be 3 match-ups of 9 servers, top server from each game will move on to the Finals. Seeding for this round will be based on accumulated points from the previous round.
Semi’s Match-up 1
Knockout #1
Knockout #6
Knockout #7
Semi’s Match-up 2
Knockout #2
Knockout #5
Knockout #8
Semi’s Match-up 3
Knockout #3
Knockout #4
Knockout #9
Finals will be the match-up of the 3 semi-final winners. 1st, 2nd, 3rd determined by this match-up. Rewards can be unique for each of these serves, anything from unique titles, to gold, to unique armor or weapons.
Semi’s Match-up 1 Winner
Semi’s Match-up 2 Winner
Semi’s Match-up 3 Winner
I think this would be an awesome way to compete, and making it yearly could really create a great following for Guild Wars 2 WvW.
What do you guys think? If you have any ideas to improve this proposal, post them here. ArenaNet please consider this! It would be awesome!
Thanks ArenaNet! Very happy your team could help me with this situation!
Thank you for your response. Sorry for doing multiple tickets… This situation has been upsetting, wanted to get more information on what could be done to get my weapon ticket back. Thanks for taking another look at my ticket.
Yesterday I bought black lion keys and obtained two Fusion Weapon Skin Tickets, when I opened the merchant, it bought a Fused Rifle Skin that my Elementalist can’t use. I sent in a Support Ticket and was told there was nothing that could be done. I want to know why there isn’t a ‘confirm purchase’ window when buying the Fused Weapon Skins. They are really hard to get and now I won’t be able to get the skins I want even after I had the Tickets to get them. These are very hard items to obtain and costs lots of money to do so. I ask that someone please help me get this fixed. I just want my Fused Weapon Ticket back so I can get the item my character can actually use. I ask in good faith, since this is brand new to the game, and since there is no confirmation on the weapon vendor, that I please have the Fused Rifle Skin removed from my inventory and that I get my Fused Weapon Skin Ticket back.
This post suggests sending in a support ticket for this very probelm

The Tokens and Starter Kit have been removed from the Trading Posts. Looks like disappointment for those hoping CA’s would be out today. Looks like it’ll be April.
People are complaining the Custom Arenas are gem based? From the beginning they said this would be the case. Don’t understand how people are surprised by this.
Custom Arena Starter Kit’s and Custom Arena Time Token’s just showed up on the Trading Post for 200 Gems each. Probably an accident, but maybe, just maybe they are releasing them today?! PLEASE?!
This has all been said 100 times before, no need for another thread like this.
It has been said 100 times before, and will be said 100 more times in the future. Threads will keep being made till this game is changed. I’ll add mine to the mix and see if we can get meaningful change from ArenaNet for sPvP. Maybe someone within ArenaNet will respond to the suggestions in this thread, or something within one of these threads will spark something inside those who work on PvP for Guild Wars 2.
This thread is an open forum for all of those who think the sPvP system currently in Guild Wars 2 needs to be changed, or reformed in some way. Any and all ideas are welcome that will contribute to the the growth of the sPvP side of this game and for it to become a popular e-sport with a thriving competitive community.
Hot join 8v8’s removed and replaced with either Custom Arenas, Hot join 5v5’s, or a Deathmatch mode. 8v8 Hot Joins are basically deathmatches and the node objectives are abandoned because all players really care about in these hot joins is their score. Nobody cares if their side wins a match. Maybe adding a deathmatch mode would be better, but 8v8 zergy Hot joins is a failure and a disservice to the community because it is putting off new players from making teams to play competitively or even just sticking around and playing sPvP consistently.
Get Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode out as soon as possible.
It might be the case that the current sPvP system will never get the number of players it once had, let alone grow, basically meaning this game will never manage to become an e-sport. First, to try and salvage the current system by implementing a daily, weekly, and monthly tournament system with really meaningful rewards tied to a new prestige system could bring back a lot of players to the sPvP side of the game. I would try doing this before my next suggestion to see how popular these features are.
If there isn’t a sufficient number of players returning to sPvP after Custom Arenas, Spectator Mode, Daily-Weekly-Monthly tournaments are all released, then I would say our last hope of making Guild Wars 2 sPvP an e-sport would be to make Heart of the Mists free to play with a LOT of Gem Store content specific to sPvP added to coincide with this change. Adding buyable armor skins and weapons, unique endless finishers, and other cosmetic purchases available in the Gem Store for sPvPers would be very profitable, and should probably start to be considered now. I would also suggest those who make a Free-to-Play account only get two or three character slots, but are in no way limited in terms of gameplay features. Also, to drive sales for the full Guild Wars 2 game, make the PvE/WvW side of the game purchasable with Gems in-game, maybe suggesting this purchase anytime a Free-to-Play account tries to enter the Lion’s Arch Portal in Heart of the Mists.
I believe this basic outline for reform within the sPvP side of Guild Wars 2 will at least start this game down the road of becoming a viable and popular e-sport. The core game itself is honestly one of the best MMO’s ever made, and ArenaNet should take a lot of pride from this. It is truly a great game to play, but reform within sPvP is an absolute must at this point. Deep down, I think the current system, even by adding some new features probably can’t be an e-sport. Heart of the Mists becoming Free-to-Play can bring a lot of people into the game that would have never touched the game before, and would make it much more likely that GW2 becomes an e-sport.
In-game name: Knocks
Main Class / Potential Classes: Sustain/Damage Ele (Main), Power Necro (Alt)
Region: North America
Practice Times: I’m on all the time, morning, noon, and night about 6 days a week.
Experience: Rank 33 in sPvP, 100% Map Completion, Almost 1,000 hours of GW2 play time
Other (Anything else that you would like to add): Looking for a competitive team that has aspirations to be competitive in the potential e-sport scene of GW2 in North America.
thanks ANet for the hotfix!
please change this back, its horrible for organizing bags!!
Forest>Kyhlo>Foefire>Temple………………………………………………>Raid
what’s yours?
THANK YOU ARENANET
random map 1v1 obviously no raid. PLEASE we are tired of playing just one map all the time!
I think for the special events (wintersday, mad king) ArenaNet Should make these time competitive and keep track of your best time on the jumping puzzles. A circuit could form of the best ‘jumpers’ in the game. This would be an awesome feature to add to jumping puzzles and would make them competitive and always testing the limits of how fast people can run these puzzles. I think even the designers of these jumping puzzles would be surprised by how fast people could complete them. Maybe set up a circuit of jumping puzzles with leader boards and prizes for the top players.
I’m sorry but GW2 PvP > GW1 PvP. Combo fields and finishers completely out-classes anything GW1 did in terms of gameplay. It isn’t even close. GW2 will be a huge PvP success after all the features are in.
Instead of finding a solution to the problems they have with player retention they should turn the Mists into Trial Island and focus on volume?
This is why developers should ignore 99.9837427586234758962% of all player feedback.
Have you completely missed the six features ArenaNet has mentioned multiple times that they are going to add in the next 3 months? I think the matchmaking and ranking system, custom arenas, spectator mode, leader boards, monthly and yearly tournaments pretty much addresses your ‘player retention’ concerns. My suggestions are for further down the line, by the end of next year, maybe sooner.
A ‘wish list’ of features we will see and features I’d like to see implemented sometime next year.
Features we will see in Q1 of 2013 (as mentioned by Johnathan Sharp):
Matchmaking and Ranking System
Leaderboards
Custom Arenas
Spectator Mode
More Stats
Monthly and Yearly Tournaments
With a few extras thrown in there, maybe a new map, dueling system implemented, I think we can safely say these are the new features we will be seeing in the next few months. I’m very glad that these will be added and they are sorely needed to make this game truly a e-sports quality contender in the current field of e-sports games.
Now, I’d like to explain my ideas of features that can be added in 2013 that will make Guild Wars 2 one of the most played e-sports of the next 5 years and can make it the most popular e-sport there is. Many of the ideas I will be discussing have already been mentioned on these forums, but some of the features have not. Here they are:
Heart of the Mists becomes Free-to-Play
Pretty self explanatory, but I’ll break it down how I envision this working. Anybody that downloads HotM F2P would only get 2 or 3 character slots but would have complete access to ALL features currently enjoyed in HotM (and the new game modes I suggest below). Full use of the Gem Store would make HotM F2P a viable solution for ArenaNet and what makes this work. If you have one of these accounts you will also select a server but you will not be able to go through any portals nor be able to ‘Leave the Mists’. If you attempt to leave through the Lion’s Arch portal, WvW screen, or ‘Leave the Mists’, you will be given an option to purchase the full game for the retail price. Essentially, sPvP is free-to-play, PvE and WvW are not.
New Game Modes: 3v3 Arenas and 10v10 Capture the Flag
Joining the 5v5 Conquest mode would be these two new game modes. These two new game modes will earn you glory and rank points. I envision that these modes can be implemented by the one year anniversary of Guild Wars 2, August 2013. I’ll break them down how these modes will work.
Arenas
Arenas will be a 3v3 Deathmatch and use the Matchmaking and Rankings systems the same as Conquest mode will be in the next few months. You will only be able to access Arenas by queueing a 3 person party, no hot joins. Arenas will have 6 maps, one based for each city in Guild Wars 2. In each city in PvE you can go to an area of the city and spectate these Arena matches but can only join Arenas through HotM. Each game will be best 2 out of 3 because Guild Wars 2 has lower HP cap and rounds will go by fairly quickly. Monthly and Yearly tournaments can be added if enough of a following is formed for this game mode, but I still see Conquest as the main sPvP game mode.
Capture the Flag
The CTF game mode will be 10 v 10 and only joinable by queue, no hot joins. The ability to create a 10-man party will be opened up in HotM, but only for this game mode (obviously). You can solo queue as well and will be grouped up with other party’s. You can still earn glory and rank points, but this game mode will not be competitive. No tournaments for CTF. New maps designed for CTF, would be larger than Conquest maps, but not by much. I see the mode playing much like WoW CTF mode. Siege weapons would be a focal point of these games (think treb on Kyhlo).
I believe if these features are implement, ArenaNet would have one of the most successful PvP games ever. Making it Free to Play would mean a massive PvP population that would keep things fresh and always populated. Paid queues would always pop for tournaments, and much of the complaints about PvP would be nullified by such a rich and dense free-to-play experience. I think ArenaNet has the foundation of a potentially huge pvp game in place, but adding these features would take it to a level we haven’t seen in gaming before.

ArenaNet has devoted about 7-10 people to sPvP development.
I am pretty sure that is incorrect. I can’t find the post but I remember seeing a list of people and teams working on things associated to sPvP shortly after the chris whitside incident where he said we only have 2 people working on this stuff. I don’t know the exact number and I don’t think the number was clear but I am fairly positive they have more than 10 people working on it.
EDIT: found it https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/The-teams-that-work-on-PvP-WvW-Balance/first#post821794 the list was people working on balance but I am still curious where you got your numbers of 7-10.
I got it from that lists. 7-10 may be low, but I don’t believe its near 20 either. I believe more resources should be dedicated to PvP, that is what I’m trying to get across in this thread. I think they probably have around 10 people dedicated to only pvp, with others coming in and helping on particular elements. I think 20 or more dedicated to just pvp would make the pvp experience better for all.
(edited by phfresno.1230)
From what I gather from interviews/forum posts and the like, ArenaNet has devoted about 7-10 people to sPvP development. That is inadequate for a studio that has goals to make this a competitive e-sport, and to do that ANet needs to be putting A LOT more of its resources into the sPvP side of the game. The fact is, there are many bugs that aren’t addressed for weeks at a time, and it’s obvious that it’s because they have so few staff working solely on sPvP. I think a core group of 15-20 people working on just sPvP would greatly improve the experience for the sPvP side of the game. Since the game launched three months ago there has been numerous bugs (the chests not given for free’s, load screen bug, the tournament DC bug, no map announcements, region switch chests bug, etc) and lack of features that has truly decreased the number of people wanting to play sPvP. I think Guild Wars 2 has the potential to become a very popular e-sport, the likes of LoL. But unlike League, ArenaNet has not devoted the resources necessary for this to happen.
Please ArenaNet, devote more of your staff to sPvP. Your game has too much potential for you to not dedicate more time and attention to sPvP.

well I’m done playing tournaments till its fixed. Hope you get it fixed soon Arenanet, it’s unbearable to play at the moment.
