Game Updates: Traits

I just came back to the game because of my cousin. I am a gw1 player and quit this game because of ascended gear.

I am barely sticking around because ascended gear is account bound. If it had been 1,000 silk more I would have quit.

The trait system is now grindy. If I did not have 21 grandfathered characters, I would quit again. It is not alt friendly.

My cousin started over, unknowingly deleting his grandfathered character. He has now stopped playing, mostly because of the new trait system.

Those who complain and are about to quit...

Yeah, not going to play gw1 either. Heh.

Neverwinter Online looks pretty good. Looking forward to that now.

Playing some torchlight2.

Going to give firefall a try eventually.

Borderlands2 looks good, but I will probably wait for goty.

I have a lot of games I need to finish as well.

A golem named BUY-4373, an NPC named Subdirector Blingg, and a jumping puzzle named Under New Management.

I’m sorry, but those references are too coincidental to just be funny. Thanks for letting us now, ANet.

Yeah.

Hey Anet guys who were against all this crap… you might want to try getting a job at Neverwinter online or do something with kickstarter.

Tell us about it when you can, and sorry they trashed your game. heh.

You sure like the term “lol”, good for you and why would I try to stop you?

No I am not PR just because I don’t share your opinion, talk about being childish. Get that out of your head, the world doesn’t work that way.
What I find interesting is that many of you seem so convinced that they WILL in-fact add a new set of gear and that you won’t be able to transmute that skin onto your old one. That you won’t be able to change an infusion of your gear either.
Even when you don’t have any evidence for such a thing or anything about any new gear-tier being added either. “Must be the case” is simply not good enough.
This could very well be the final gear model and be the same 5 expansions from now.

Now I figure you ARE Anet pr. You throw an insult and ignore everything I posted.

We already have to farm some of our gear over with this update… and Anet refuses to confirm that this is the last tier.

We have no interest in farming 448+ pieces of max level gear just to farm it again when the tier increases.

Some people have already made lots of sets of exotic gear and will quit from having to farm them again.

We do not want to farm 448+ pieces of gear over and over! With this update the game might as well be a racing simulation from our point of view.

I am only responding to this for people in the thread to read. I think there is a very small chance that you are an actual player… but maybe, who knows.

I am only in this thread for LOLs now, hence the LOLs.

I’m surprised over this reaction I have to say, it’s not that big of a deal really.
This is not a “gear-treadmill” for the simple reason that there is NOTHING in this game you can’t do in lvl 80 blues, that is the main difference and it is still there.
Nobody can inspect you and check what gear you use other then what skins you have on-top. I don’t think that every single player in this game like the same look, so anyone trying to cut you out of group because of it will be the fool impersonated.
They don’t have that tool and it will never happen either.

A lot of people are fine with slowly getting their exotic tokens right now and they were never going for the legendaries in the first place for the simple reason: They enjoy the game-play and not the grind.
I don’t understand what some of you were expecting.
Did you expect there never to be hard-modes of any kind?
If there was hard-modes should these be completely without any extra reward what so ever?
How quickly did people get done with the old dungeons because there was nothing to get from there?
If you are stuck in the new dungeon (someone leaves) and need someone to help, why would they step in other then their love for you?
Give that some thought.

Just because there is new content out does not mean you have to bash your head against it days on end. I find the whole argument a little bit ironic that people don’t want any more progression when this is not even the top-notch stuff in the first place. Just another mid level that will be there going forward and it makes sense as there will be more harder dungeons in the future too.
“I can’t help myself but to grind days on end just because it happens to be there”
That must be a hard situation to be in, but in my book that is a matter of self punishment rather then enforcement. If you feel you can’t play because of it, then I’m sorry but I think you’ll be the one losing out on something you could get a lot of fun out of.
The new dungeon is not for everyone, I don’t think everyone will enjoy it. This was a good timing to implement this patch. The old dungeons-runs are now a lot easier as people know the hows and most have better gear. (I still invite lower levels into my groups mind you).
There will always be groups with interests going apart in an mmo, you will never get away from that. To toss out the argument that anyone not from your pool of players should go away and shut up is not vial. You can’t cater everyone as a developer all the time, it is simply impossible.
But people should at least try to approach this with some dignity rather then cry and quit. I have a feeling it’s all talk anyhow.

LOL… I have already quit. Will uninstall soon, but I need to talk to one more person in game before I go. Following this forum for comedy at the moment.

Obviously you are either Anet pr or have not read a lot of posts in this thread. I will bite on this one for the heck of it.

A lot of us bought the game because it had a firm max tier.

We planned on playing spvp, wvw and some pve for fun when new content came out.

We had planned on having 3-5 full sets of exotic gear for 1 of each class for WvW.

This update has destroyed the game for us, as we have no intention of farming 448+ items, for WvW, just to have to farm it again whenever Anet wants to put in another tier of gear. LOL. If you are serious about WvW and pvp, you will want max level gear, so do not post anything about that or you are confirmed Anet pr.

I do not care what they do now, I will not come back. The damage is done Hellgate: London style.

A game I was looking at a while back is looking pretty good now… Neverwinter online lol. It has actual action combat and similar skill system… and if they screw it up… guess what… it actually is ftp! LOL.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/139a4j/official_post_ascended_items_on_german_forums/

Translation of the German announcement on Reddit, asi see a lot of people are not aware of it.

  • They are explicitly not promising that Ascended gear will be the last item tier—they don’t want to make more promises that they can be accused of breaking later (like is happening this time). They note that in GW1, new gear was added over time—not a better-statted tier, but bonus combinations that weren’t available at release, like the +energy on staves.

This really not gonna help. Are they seriously trying to make Guild Wars look similar now? Because that is a direct attack on the Guild Wars fanbase with the specific intent to feed the new GW2 fanbase with utter bs.

I see that as a fiancial suicide.

Do they want to crash themselves and drag down Nexon with them or what?

Oh well, good enough for me to know that I can stop farming my daily now at least.

Now I just need to tell a few people I am leaving and game and uninstall.

Sad that I waited years for this game lol… I had no idea that I would be playing gw1 so much longer than 2… hahaha.

Maybe I will check back in 6 months and see if they fixed the game to my liking. Probably not though.

Bye all.

I read your post, and comprehended it.

But your post does not quote them saying “There will never be a higher tier than exotic” or “Exotic will forever be best in slot” or “We will never for any reason add ascension gear”.

All it says is they introduced it because of a reason, that doesn’t say it wasn’t already on the drawing board; but just being postponed.

ANet clearly stated that this game will not have vertical gear progression at max level. Every gaming blog on the planet got it, players from Guild Wars 1 got it, people that bought this game for this specific reason got it even review sites got it and recommended it to players with limited time to play games.

Why can’t you get it?

And why can’t you get that the game’s nowhere near complete and that there’s already a progression system in place? They’re just adding a tier that they never said wasn’t going to be there.

Granted if they keep adding new tiers it’ll upset me as much as anyone else; but currently they have kept to their intention of no gear treadmill. A single step is far from a treamill.

If that were true then the same logic would apply if they added in 5 new tiers every day and they would still not be lying.

The way you guys are talking there is no possible way for Anet to lie, because they could have planned it all along.

Even if they say they “we are lying” you could say they did not finish that statement yet and it was meant to be “we are NOT lying” so it was not a touch ranger.

They actually have stated that exotic would be the final, best gear. They also stated that they wanted exotics to be easy to get.

A company sells their product on a promise, a manifesto that there would be no gated gear, no gear treadmill, no power creep. A promise that this MMO would be different.

Well, turns out that the entire time they have been developing gated gear with a power creep.

Why have they been developing this feature that was not needed when so many things in the game are broken?

The storyline is mediocre, at best. Whoever thought we should all play right hand to Treebeard the magnificent should feel bad.

The camera is still wonky.

Free transfers are still ruining WvW.

Bot problems.

The man running the economy doesn’t know anything about economics.

Broken events, broken quests, broken skills.

All of these problems that need to be addressed, and what did they spend my money on? Something I didn’t want, something I stopped playing other MMOs because of it.

Power creep. That’s all it is folks, don’t try to cherry coat it.

Should Anet continue on their current design model this game will just be another burnt out husk we will all refer to as another failed WoW clone.

Where/When did they state Exotics are the final tier?

When they promised no gated gear and no power creep. In their manifesto.

That never said Exotics were the last tier we would see. All it said was Legendaries would always be the Best in Slot items.

But they did say that there wouldn’t be power creep or gated gear.

This implies exotic is the final tier.

Just because you cannot read, doesn’t mean everyone else cannot.

Just because that’s what you got from it doesn’t make it true.

And just because it wasn’t implemented straight out the door doesn’t mean they lied. It’s possible it was meant to be implemented from the start, they just hadn’t finished it yet.

That is true in the same way that making a new tier every 2 days is not vertical progression, because they never said any of them were the last tier, is true.

Any game or game company could say almost anything and not be wrong if they could just get away with saying that it is not finished yet lol. They never said that gw2 would not be a racing simulation game either, lol.

However, we had gear, it progressed vertically… vertical progression of gear?

Another thing about the new tier that is funny is this.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items

I have only done this once before. Bring your own transmutation stones. Safety not guaranteed.

It would also be funny to be the guy that made a bunch of those before he heard about the new tier. heh.

Are you people serious? You’ve been playing this game for God knows how many hours, and you’re all spitting your pacifiers out based on a few paragraphs of PR speak?

I have a couple of suggestions. First, stop with the talk of quitting, because I fully expect to see everyone here complaining the same way the next time some new content is added. The few of you who really will leave over this, well, good job for sticking to your word, but really…try seeing how the new stuff pans out before you go and slit your wrists?

As I said, you’ve all seen, what, a few lines of text and a screenshot of a ring? What if ANet make the new stuff craftable in a month or two? What if ALL of the Ascended stuff, as it’s obviously intended for grinding the new dungeon, has Magic Find as one of it’s stats, and the slight increase on the others are intended to balance it a little?

You’ve seriously taken all the content in the game so far (which I’ve really enjoyed, personally), balanced it against one press release, and decided to form a lynch mob? Yeesh!

Well just the new tier alone means that I have to scrap my exotic gear and I would now have to farm this new tier for each of my characters to WvW with. This would likely end up being at least 3 full sets for each character I want to WvW with.

Legendary weapons are being upgraded to ascended, so with that, pictures and statements we already know that ascended gear will be better.

If I were actually going to stick around to farm all ascended gear, I would still have to decide if I should just run around in rare gear until all of the ascended gear is out or not. Then after I finish getting 24 full sets of ascended gear, they could turn around and make another tier.

There is no way I can do that lol.

If the update goes through it will need to scrap the extra tier or make WvW use pvp gear, or I will have to move on lol.

Does anyone else find it amusing that people will now be “LFG for FotM”? It’s almost like that was intentional.

Yeah, it is almost like this update is a complete joke as it goes against everything the game was supposed to be about.

The commando update looked more serious that this one.

At this point they could say, “just kidding” and it would make total sense lol.

Start looking for hidden messages in the lost shores posts. I would, but no.

As I have said before…

“Here are some of my problems, and other people probably feel the same way.

In gw1 you hit max level pretty early and get max gear pretty fast. After that you just farm for custom skins.

Gw2 was sold to us as the same type of thing.

So, I had planned on leveling 1 of each class to level 80 and buy them all multiple sets of exotic gear and weapons. Then I was going to mostly play them in WvW and then sometimes explore pve for fun and skins, as new content came out.

A lot of people had already gotten far enough to make lots of sets of exotics and used transmutation stones, believing that this gear would have max stats forever. Some spending a fair amount of money on this and now feel it was wasted and are upset.

The problem now is that the precedent has been set for new tiers of gear being added into the game.

I no longer believe that I will be able to level all classes to 80 and get all of the different sets of gear for them in the time that I want to spend with the game.

Even if I decided I could live with this new gear and filled the inventory of my characters with lots of different sets of gear for WvW, they could then just decide to add a new tier of gear and all my time would have been semi wasted and I would need to farm new gear. I would never be able to trust that my gear had the best stats and I would never use transmutation stones either.

So, pretty much, with this update, the game will no longer be the game that I wanted to play and I will have to quit.

For me to play the way I had planned on playing the game would have to have a firm max tier, or, WvW will have to use pvp gear… or both."

So this has nothing to do with me whining. If the patch goes through it will no longer be the game that I want to play. From my point of view this patch will cause as much disinterest for me as if it was patched into being a racing simulator or an RTS.

I also notice that the few people (defending)calling people names have only posted in this forum as if they are new accounts… I doubt if most of them are even real players of the game.

People need to stop saying they are setting a precedent.

Every single change sets a precedent… nerfs, buffs etc…. they all set a precedent.

Increasing karma prices for gear? Precendent…. How do we know they wont continue doing this?

Flooding the market with Materials? Precendent… What if they did this with other hard to get mats?

Saying they are setting a precedent doesn’t mean anything when everything they change can set a precedent.

People are saying it is a precedent because that is what it is.

I am not even sure if what you have written counts as an argument against anything.

The only thing I can see your post targeting is maybe the dictionary.

I stand by my statement and am not in favor of this update at all.

They can either scrap it and or make WvW use pvp gear. If not then I will play another game… it is pretty simple.

My point is, you can claim everything sets some sort of precedent, doesn’t mean it does.

Fact of the matter is you have no clue what they plan on doing, and in the end it’s their product, and they have all the back end metrics to make decisions on. We don’t. Sure we have our opinions, and everyones differs, but going around saying they are setting a precedent is pretty pointless.

Play the content, if you don’t like it, then make your decision to leave. Don’t just assume off the bat without actually experiencing it that it doesn’t work and that they have altered everything.

Look, I am not mad, I am just stating how things are from my point of view.

If you read how I had planned on playing, you will see that putting in just one more tier pretty much destroys what I wanted to do.

Also, Like I said, if I actually believed 100% that this would be the last tier and farmed all of those sets for all of my characters to do WvW… I have to remember that just days ago I thought exotic would be 100% the highest tier in the game forever.

What is funny is that putting the new tier in over time is even worse, cause they I have to decide if I wanna just make rare armor for the rest of my characters and wait for the new tier or not.

I just can not bring myself to play after this update goes live, unless WvW starts to use pvp gear. Hopefully you can see it from my point of view. Nothing personal against Anet, I will just move on to another game.

I didn’t know so many people playing this MMO would rather jump ship from a great game because of a new and improved gear… I understand many of the points made… But I still don’t get it.

It’s not super super important to me to have the best of the best, but I happen to get a full exotic set which is the best so far… I was actually a little disappointed at how easy it was to obtain. I got the same gear almost every level 80 has who didn’t just hit 80 yay? I don’t see people saying LFGM with ascended gear only anytime soon, People don’t even say that about exotic gear or could probably point out that dude using a rare set instead of exotic. Guild wars “life” will go on weather you get this set or not.

Well to each his own I ain’t trying to bash y’all who are horrified for more tiers of gear even if I did a bit? I’m just flustered about how much rage a new rare armor is creating.

I welcome this new armor, maybe I won’t once it shows up but I have no idea what it will be or how hard it will be to get. Which intrigues me.

Bring it on!

Yeah, a lot of this has to do with people who like to pvp and want things to be fair.

Spvp has been lacking so a lot of us play a fair amount of WvW.

WvW uses pve gear and this was not a problem with how the game was said to work, but with expanding tiers it does become a problem, as we do not want to have to refarm all 5 sets of max level armor for each of our WvW characters.. lol.

Had we know this sooner, we would have asked for WvW to use pvp gear in the beta and then it would not have been that give of a deal.

When we pvp we want the best gear and we want the other player to have the best gear.

I think its an awesome idea, Gear upgrade really motivates players to keep playing to achieve a better equipment, and besides we’ll have more end-game content to focus in.
i hope every BIG patch, they introduce new gear quality aswell as Max Level increased and new skills.

For QQ’ers : – Remenber Legendary weapons are stronger than Exotics, So stop QQ.

Did any of you guys read this? Wow, just wow.. And these are the type of people Anet wants to cater. Punk guy, Legendaries are not stronger than Exotics. Go back to your panda please

Actually, the Legendary weapons do have more damage/stats on them:

Legendary >> http://www.gw2db.com/items/63469-twilight << 1011-1117, +182 Power, +130 Toughness, +130 Vitality

Exotic >> http://www.gw2db.com/items/48101-invaders-greatsword << 995-1100, +179 Power, +128 Toughness, + 128 Vitality.

Comparing Twilight to the WvWvW Exotic GS: That’s +16 -17 to damage range, + 3 power, +2 Toughness and + 3 Vitality. Which is actually about the same stats creep we’re seeing in the Ascended items.

Taking that into account, if Anet introduce legendary items for every slot, then realistically Ascended items won’t have had any stats creep at all, they will just match the Legendary stats creep that’s already a feature of the game.

Nope.

+128 Toughness.png Toughness
+128 Vitality.png Vitality

They have the same stats as exotics, or are supposed to. Not sure what is up with gw2db… maybe an early build or something.

Indeed. My fault, removed the original post as it’s misleading. Though, interesting point, if it is from an earlier build, was this stats increase already there?

Yeah, no biggie.

I am really not sure about the stats. Maybe they knew something we did not all along… or found the higher stats in the game files.

I am not raging about this change, but it will cause me to quit the game for reasons I stated in an earlier post.

No QQ, but the game will no longer be the game I wanted to play and it will prevent me from playing in the way that I have planned and desired. So naturally I will move onto another game.

I personally is looking forward to a new dungeon. And the new gear. Cant see what the fuzz is all about if people dont want to grind DONT do it. Stop kittening and whining like little kids lol.

The problem here is that someone with a full set of ascended will have quite higher stats. For example 1000+ hp, 5%+ crit chance, 30%+ crit damage. Those are examples but over all each piece will give you 8% more stats. When some items are over 100 stats already that 8% is massive in power boost. This is what people dont realize. In order to stay useful you will have to grind.

Well, the fact of the matter is that you can’t know that. I’m not saying that it’s impossible that we will have to grind, but I’m saying that it’s possible that we don’t have to grind. I mean everyone here says that GW2 is about enjoying the journey, playing for fun and all that. What if the recipes for the ascended gear will only require things you get from having fun playing the game? I mean exotic gear right now is pretty much grindy, and people expect a new gear tier to be more of the same. What if this new gear tier is the developers way of remedying for their mistakes with the grind involved in the acquisition of exotic gear?

There are multiple ways of approach to this new patch; either you assume the worst, assume the best, or you wait and see what the developers have in mind.

Here are some of my problems, and other people probably feel the same way.

For me to play the way I had planned on playing the game would have to have a firm max tier, or, WvW will have to use pvp gear… or both.

All transmutation stones used on items that players thought were top tier will be wasted, because they now need a new tier to have maxed armor and use more transmutation stones.

It’s doubtful that most players would feel those transmutation stones were wasted at the time in which they were consumed. Those transmutation stones cannot be recovered; so, why waste the effort thinking about them.

WvW uses pve gear so all sets of max level exotic gear will be trash and WvW players will have to farm new armor.

WvW players will simply be in the same boat that other pve players in that they have better chances than those with non-exotic sets to gain new armor.

I just noticed that the few people on here defending and calling concerns QQing have only posted in this thread… as if the account is new… and if you point that out the post is somehow deleted… hmmm…

Seems like your posts are still there.

The point is that they are losing out on transmutation stones, which is real money, and they are losing max level gear, because it will no longer be max level gear. I am only answering what they are losing because the question was asked.

It would be funny to be the guy that made a bunch of exotic gear sets and used transmutation stones JUST BEFORE lost shores new tier info came out. That would be comedy.

My posts are not all there. Some were totally deleted as if they never existed. Unless they were deleted and I am the only one who can not see them because of some bug. Either way it does not matter, not really that important lol.

Players that already own multiple sets of exotics have much to lose. The same is true for those that already used transmutation stones on the gear they are wearing.

What exactly are players with exotics losing? They have already gained easier access to ascended level gear by having exotic pieces. There’s nothing preventing players from transmuting specific skins onto items. Hindsight is 20/20. At present, nothing is being taken from players. Do people complain to Intel when previously purchased cpu’s are outdated by newer models? Anet is not Intel, and they have not stated that they are pursuing absolute gear progression. This probably won’t be the last time they release gear updates, and we still have no idea as to how they’re going to be implemented.

Well exotic was supposed to be the highest tier of armor stat wise.

People farmed and planned for this and used transmutations stones because they knew it would be the top tier of armor and they wanted to change its looks.

I am sure there are quite a few people who would not have used transmutations stones on exotic gear if they knew there would be another tier of gear coming out.

So, with this new tier coming out, players lose money that they paid for transmutation stones to update the armor that they thought was the best.

With this update they lose money wasted on transmutation stones.

It is not fact yet that this update will happen.

It is fact that this update was announced. No one with confidence has come forward to say that it was not.

There is plenty to lose waiting to see how this comes out, that being all of our max level exotic sets and custom skins or transmutation stones we used on them.. lol…

Players who already own exotics have nothing to lose from this update. They are simply one step closer to obtaining ascended items. If players are attached to a specific skin, they can always transmute it.

We do not know as to how Anet will chose to implement these new items. There’s no way to tell as to whether or not exotics will be required as components for ascended pieces as an alternative to simply farming for new items entirely.

It is not lost on me that you also refer to people against this change as QQers and that this was your first post ever… hmmm….

The number of posts I have made in relation to issues I have chosen to express myself on do not disqualify me from participating in these forums.

There’s quite a bit of misconception in the notion that Anet should reverse course due to player dissatisfaction. While Anet may take player opinions into account when making decisions about the direction of the game, their ultimate goal will assumably be to better the game. This goal will at times run contradictory to the thoughts of the player base since they have access to information, including future releases, that we do not as players.

Take into account, for instance, the release of updated AI or general enemy mob stats and mechanics. Players at present may not be able to keep pace with more volatile combat, and slight improvements to armor and stats can help aleviate that stress without forcing dramatic improvements in player skill or playstyle. An additional armor tier is welcome under those conditions, noting that any item based addition to the game should still reinforce player skill improvement.

That said, we know that these items will be released. What matters now is the way in which Anet chooses to implement the gear. Lowering the barrier for acquiring these items will not only catalyze player adoption of the new tier, it will also serve to lower the barrier of entry for new content and new dungeons.

GW2 is still an infant in the gaming world, and a massive one at that. It will take a great deal of time for Anet to mature it to what it will eventually become. You can climb aboard the QQ-betrayal-train and watch it eventually derail, but there’s nothing to lose by waiting to see how Anet chooses to implement “progress.” Some of us from 05 have seen Anet make what we would consider mistakes, but GW1 turned out to be a relatively beautiful game for its time. It’s more than likely that GW2 will fair similar storms to a brighter horizon.

I am not in favor of this new update.

I do not agree with most of what you have said.

It is not fact yet that this update will happen.

To all of you crying about how you think ascended gear is ruining the game- you are just angry because you have more stuff to do in-game now.

Pretty sure that is definitely NOT why I am mad.

You realize that the gear does not = more stuff to do right? The new content is a brilliant idea and the dungeons sound really cool.

No, I am not mad because of having more things to do. That’s why I love this game, I can log in and do whatever I want. For now.

I am mad because they are going back on core concepts that they sold us on, hell that they sounded passionate about.

The big issue that you are having is thinking that anet is has “lied.” This update in no way creates a grind treadmill, in fact, it should have already been in the game. Exotic gear is not hard to get. This is that end-game armor that we should have seen already.

Well exotics were supposed to be the end game armor stat wise, and a lot of people farmed for lots of exotic sets, karma armor and transmuted them. I suspect that a lot of people are upset because all that time was wasted and they will now need all new WvW sets.

Lucky for me, I only made a few exotic sets and used no rare skins or transmutations on them… and I will not stick around to farm this next tier of gear so that it can all be wasted when they decide to make the next higher tier.

They should scrap making a higher tier and or make WvW use pvp gear. If not I am probably going to quit. (probably only because I am leaving room for something acceptable that I have not thought of)

Part of the fun was that we could fully gear all of our alts and play WvW and do newer fun content when it came out. I have 21 character slots, maxed bank and maxed out all crafting… oh well… lol…

At least a small treadmill will definitely come.
The infusions will be some kind of treadmill.

It will start at blue(or was it white?) and climb up the ladder.
But what happens when it reaches Ascended or Legendary?
Will they continue to add Ascended or Legendary infusions which get stronger and stronger but stay on same rarity level?

Kejima – Isuke Kejima(GW1)

They’ll add new content with new mechanics (new agonies) requiring new infusions. So yeah it’s a treadmill. Only instead of grinding for gear every update you’re grinding infusions. Except that you’ll probably wanna keep your old infusion gear around and start a new infusion set so you can still do the old content…

Indeed, and each new set of gear is at least 12 soulbound inventory spaces, which you can only store in your bank…

If you do the new dungeons and WvW you will reach your entire inventory limit in soulbound gear very easy.

129 pages of QQ without even experiencing the update , it’s like nowadays it’s a hobby to grief. Not even good critisicim , just pointless whining.

Then everyone jumps on the bandwagon and complains too without even knowing what update is in the first place.

Disgusting.

Save you’re wall of texts when you actually play the update through then give it a review.

Why is everyone mad anyways ?
Rare is weaker than Exotic. They just added another gear tier? where’s the big deal?
Seems like some are pretty irritated that they are “Loosing” their exotics.

sigh , humans.

This is because exotic was supposed to be the best gear you could get, so people farmed for lots of different sets to play WvW. They likely even used transmutation stones to get the looks they wanted.

With this update their exotic gear or farmed 42k karma armor will pretty much be trash and they will have to go back to pve to get the new best armor for WvW.

So that and other stuff…

right but only a few updates from this one you will probably be able to earn this new gear in WVW…. as one of the devs has said…..

Yeah… so all karma, mats, and transmutation stones were wasted on armor and weapons that will now be trash… because we were lead to believe they were the best gear in the game…

So now we have to do more farming to get our WvW gear, and it will likely be much faster to get in pve…

The precedent has also been set for that gear to eventually be trash as well… replaced by a future higher tier…

Nope… pretty sure I will just quit the game, depending on what happens with this.

Can we let this beast die now? I’m ashamed I started this thread to begin with..

No we can not.

I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.

Finally we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the upcoming content, and we will ensure we share our thoughts with you on the experiences we share in the Lost Shores.

Chris Whiteside – Studio Design Director

Fail.

If you are going to do this, WvW should use pvp gear.

Honestly, people.

Explain to me.

if the game is doing so fine.

If everyone was so okay with horizontal progression.

Why are they doing this?

Why would a company disobey the wish of the “SUPPOSED” majority, if their game is still supported by the majority?

Obviously the game is not doing fine, and they’re forced to change the way they have been operating.

For god sake have a little understanding, will you?

They won’t.

A few of the posters here, including myself, have explained a very logical reasoning behind these changes.

It’s the almighty Dollar, Euro, etc.

They won’t be getting enough over the long term with only horizontal progression. It’s crystal clear.

However, it’s easier to rage, call people liars, and generally just throw a hissy fit.

Wake up folks. It’s a business. Business or lack-thereof likely dictated this change.

If that were true then the new expansion would have sparkle vampires and wizards with p90s calling in airstrikes.

I will wait for the game of the year edition to be 75% off on steam.

They lied to us for years.

/Thread

Or, they fully intended to go the route they had “promised” only to find out it wasn’t going to meet the needs financially.

What would you have them do? Just allow the game to crash and burn?

Reality has a way of being a kitten when it comes to lofty ideals meeting a market driven economy.

GW1 was f2p from the start and had multiple expansions. That game was successful enough to warrant a sequel. This game is doing fine.

This isn’t 2004.

The market is a ton more competitive now. Furthermore, GW2 isn’t GW1. Not even close. The design of the game is completely different across the board.

This is a real MMORPG. People expect mechanics that will keep them engaged in their characters.

You can’t get by with MMOG mechanics in a MMORPG in 2012. There has to be a carrot or a reason for folks to keep playing.

And horizontal progression gets older faster than vertical.

Precisely.

Pulling all of the emotion out of this debate, you really have to consider the “Why.”

Why add vertical progression? I assert that it’s because their current model of horizontal progression isn’t retaining customers as they hoped it would. Furthermore, they likely had this entire model in their backpocket if the numbers stacked up this way.

It’s simple, Either you want Guild Wars 2 to be around as a healthy and profitable game for ANet and NCSoft for the next 3-5 years, or you want outdated mechanics from 2004.

They are, in my opinion as ANet has figured out, mutually exclusive, and it’s coming home to roost now as Ascended Gear.

Sorry man, but NCSoft’s financials just don’t mimic what you’re posting. Frankly put, the game had a massively successful launch and continues to be successful to this day. The problem is, that the suits who make the decisions get jealous of Blizzard. Period.

You cannot compete with WoW. This has been proven time and time again. The only thing that will kill WoW is Blizzard.

My interpretation of the numbers is far different than what the marketing speak out of NCSoft was.

Those numbers are far below what they should be for a title of this quality and size.

I want to be clear about something here :

I am not stating that a gear grind is the RIGHT way to do things. There are plenty of other ways you can add in character progression that’s more fun and more engaging.

However, the advantage to gear is this :

1. It’s quick. Same stats, marginally better, with a gated content slot. Easy to put it into the game, takes relatively little balance if the increases are largely the same across the board.

For whatever reason, and you can debate the why, I have my opinion, and you have yours, but, ANet clearly needed something “Quick.” If time wasn’t of the essence here, they would’ve gone a different route.

May I ask what you are basing your assertion that GW2 is essentially in a downward spiral on? Please do not say XFire.

This move.

Give me another logical reason that you would completely alter the core philosophy of all of your marketing and game design less than 3 months after the game launched.

It’s simple, the only reason you would do something like that is because the current model isn’t working. The blog post said as much. “We’ve listened to player feedback.”

This is a calculated move. ANet knows that this move is likely going to alienate a certain percentage of their players, however, it’s likely to open up the game to more players, who will stay longer and play more, and put more cash into the shop.

It’s not that difficult to decipher.

It’s not going to bring in as many people as it pushes away and the people that it does bring in won’t stay for long because that crowd has no loyalty.

But if you are actually “LOYAL” you would stay and play the game despite the change, would you not?

Nope.

I read the blogpost again and noticed a little detail:

Ascended items (rings, backback) do not have a rune-slot. Rune-stats are worked into the item.

So unless you want to spec for a very specific way these items might not be as useful as one might think. Technically the new tier has better stats, (which is normal for a new tier) BUT those stats are given and can’t necessarily be individualized to go well with your build. You might want an Exotic Ring instead of a Ascended, depending on your build.

It’s bad though that it looks like we have to go to the new dungeon in order to get the Ascended Ring in the first place. The mats for infusion are probably the rewards for getting farther in the dungeon (which would make sense) and balancing will be much easier for Anet if the players stats aren’t random but given (through the new Ascended items) —> much easier to finetune difficulty for really difficult encounters.

If you look at the stats on the ascended ring vs. the exotic ring…the stats on the ascended are significantly better than the exotic, even considering the gem slotted.

What rings were -you- looking at? I see +5 Power, +5 Precision and +3% Magic Find, hardly enough to be called ‘significantly better’. The gem stats are built into the ascended ring because the slot you get on it will likely only be able to hold very specific bonuses which will probably only be effective in that new dungeon.

It is a lot for magic find gear. 3% is the magic find that comes on one piece of magic find armor. Having that set would be like wearing a second set of magic find armor.

There has to be a carrot or a reason for folks to keep playing.

Let the carrot be fun, instead of more stats. Why can’t they just release the new dungeon with the new mechanic but NOT make the gear any better than exotics? They are blatantly trying to appeal to the WoW crowd that only plays to constantly upgrade their gear.

What if I told you the carrot was fun and it had more stats?

The fact that it has more stats forces every competitive player to acquire it in order to reattain equal footing with everyone else, like it was before they decided to introduce this. Success should be defined by skill, not gear. With this new dungeon, they’re making it about gear. If you don’t have the gear, you won’t be able to complete the dungeon. If you don’t have the gear, you won’t be equally geared with the players that do have it in WvW. The mindset of a PvP’er is to gain any edge they possibly can to achieve victory. They will go after this new gear because it has a stat increase over what they’re using. Now they have to do PvE to get the gear they need to PvP. Even this wouldn’t go over well in Warcraft.

PvP already has its on realm that cannot be pierced by PvE content. WvW and PvE should not be affected by it, it will not be a significant factor in anything.

Now, if you are talking about the insecurities of “competitive” players in the game who for some reason do things normally but have to be on par with other people for whatever reason…that’s a different story.

And for dungeons, find your niche. Quit joining elitist groups. And put more effort in a thread for a LFG system.

Spvp is lacking.

WvW is fun.

How about WvW uses pvp gear instead of pve gear?… then I would almost never have to play pve.

Ascended gear is so cool. Marginally higher base stats without a usable upgrade slot! SO USEFUL IN WvW! Especially that 10% Magic Find!

It’s obviously intended for PvE only, since exotics with good upgrades will be of equivalent stats (more or less). I guess I better scrap my rare level 79 magic find gear which I use to farm Orr (and everywhere else with since I don’t have a set of exotic armor)! That Ascended gear sure does put it to shame along with the few pieces of exotic armor I wasted with karma! How will I ever be able to progress in PvE in my level 79 rare armor?! THE AGONY

This is what you get for complaining that there is “nothing to do” and you still complain. I’m sure that completing the new content will be possible in exotic gear. It just will be marginally easier and more efficient to do so in ascended gear. The difference between ascended gear and exotic gear is no different than the difference between exotic and rare. Legendary items still remain equal to (now ascended items) and so remain the “best in slot”, which is in line with their game design philosophy of keeping items on an equal power level. Adding a new ascended tier of PvE armor does not break it, nor does it entail a slippery slope into a “gear treadml”il.

WvW 1 shot KO’s.

Wouldn’t a DPS ring out DPS the Yakkington’s Ring?

Yak Ring
68 power
68 precision
10% magic find

Ruby Orichalcum Ring of the Berserker

92 power
63 precision
6% crit

Or

Coral Orichalcum Ring of the Rampager
63 power
92 precision
63 condition damage

I mean, I’m making the assumption that there would not be great variance of other types of Ascended rings.

The modifications possible with Exotic gear put Exotic gear over Ascended gear in any place other than in the instance of a dungeon in which you would require your infusion slot.

Yeah, that is a magic find ring and it is a lot better than normal magic find rings.

An ascended dps ring should be a fair amount better than the exotic one.

Crystal Desert here seems very positive on this update.

Ever since that update was announced, I never seen so many players in cursed shore doing DE to farm gold. There was usually 5~10 in weekend. I saw like over 30 in the same map, and it’s a weekday. Skimmed through this thread as far as I can see this is all speculations.

First and foremost this isn’t a gear treadmill, and GW2 do not require a constant

number in their gamer population. This game is meant to be played by setting goals

and going for it. That is why its not a sub based game in the first place. The devs don’t

even require to bring in a new tier so early on in the game stage but the fact they do

means they got alot more stuffs installed.

If a minority of the population are still in denial and hate the changes or progression

however its called. It might be the time to take a break and maybe come back to Tyria

in a couple of months.

WvW uses pve gear.

Let WvW use pvp gear or put a fork in ascended gear… or both…

I just don’t get comments like this.

What I see is: I get to level 80, get all the gear I wanted then sit and pvp/WvWvW or run dungeons for the rest of the games lifespan and have no new goals to strive for.

How is that fun?

Greater stats aren’t necessary… who the kitten thought of that?

My guess is that it is the same person that refuses to give us an option to toggle the right mouse button, even though tens of thousands of people are using the combat action mod for that very reason.

wtf how many flame, guys the patch is not out yet you are flaming for nothing

don’t say “omg i got farmed for mounths to get exotic” it is not true, i got farmed 4 hours for get my full exotic

ascendant is better than exotic? 2 stat yeah, with my green on my alt i am able to kill full exotic enemy, these stat are not really important

there is 1 screen about 1 ring magic find, maybe they put only magic find ascendant? or maybe not

what about “lfm only ascendant”? the dungeon got 1 difficul level progress, so at lv 1 you don’t need ascendant gear but you drop ascendant for do the lv2 etc etc

are we sure you can use theese item in wvwvwvw?
are we sure you can’t get theese item in wvwvwvw version?
theese item are craftable? there are 200 new recipe in the patch note and new resource craft

if they are craftable like i bet then theese item are easy to obtain like exotic gear, you will spent at least only 1 or 2 hours for get full accesory, where is the problems?
the only hard item to obtain is the “infusion” for the dungeon and maybe the back

we haven’t full info, so you are raging for theory and speculation
wait the patch release and they you are free for raging or not

PS: usually the qq people that said “i quit the game”, after the release, are the first to farming….

Well this is probably because the only fact we know is that they have better stats than exotic, which means WvW players have to farm pve for new gear and destroy the old gear.

Anet should give us more information if they want us to think different.

I could assume that a guy that is about to shoot me in the face with a gun is actually a dude with a magic gun that shoots magic bullets that make me rich, but I am not going to wait to find out.

Spectral Agony from GW1 required armor infusion to mitigate. It wasn’t a problem.

Which is why I say wait and see before you rage yourself to death…

Yeah but you could infuse any armor in GW1 and it did not require you to trash your old WvW gear and farm new gear.

I do not like ascended gear because I do not want to have to farm new WvW gear every balance update AND tier update.

Let WvW use pvp gear or put a fork in ascended gear… or both…

The new Ascended armors

WvW gear just got more pve grind.

woot?… …

If Ascended stays, Make WvW use pvp gear.

I am not into farming pve again to make even more maxed gear, so that I can finally do what I actually want to do and play WvW.

So you want to farm new ascended gear for your WvW characters and destroy all of your useless exotic equipment? Do you play WvW?

Suggestion: Ascended Gear/Slot Change.

Well unless WvW starts using pvp gear, or unless ascended gear is banned from WvW, I can already tell you I am against ascended gear.

I am not into longer grinds for my WvW gear and destroying the exotics I have already made.

If Ascended stays, Make WvW use pvp gear.

If ascended gear is actually going into the game, let WvW use pvp gear.

This way we do not have to farm new gear every time a new tier is added or when a major balance change is made.

Suggestion: Ascended Gear/Slot Change.

WvW gear sets approve of this message.

Pretty much they should just let us infuse our armor and get back to making pretty skins for us to farm and pve areas that are fun.

Gear grind vs Skin grind, please discuss.

Mostly because WvW uses pve gear.

Skins do not mess with WvW balance and stats do.

What's the big deal with Ascended?

Well, everyone will likely have to farm new WvW sets and junk the old ones and may or may not have to transmute them all over again.

Anyone who karma farmed for maxed level gear likely wasted their time.

Lots of issues with crafting and runes, depending on how these work with the new items.

Potential for needing more sets of armor for WvW and spending more money to change the armor for every balance update. One set of equipment for a build is at least 13 soulbound items. That is a lot of inventory and bank space.

They could have just made new interesting and fun content with new skins and stat combinations.

Even if they never put newer tiers into the game or raise the level cap, ascended gear has now set the precedent for new tiers being added to the game.
