A PvE-only experience here. But for this just know that my Ranger is at lvl 80 and my two Thiefs are 16 and 20, the former being a soon-to-be empty slot and the second one is – so far – basically a … Chef.
For solo pveing, I find them way too squishy and way too much depending on kiting mobs. Mind you, I understand – as said above – that Thiefs can be especially tricky at lower levels, but however it just translated into frustation for me and an overall feeling of being useless.
My Ranger pyromaniacal Trapper, on the other hand… I like this guy He does not really live up to the name ‘Ranger’, though, as my (mostly Long-) bow is almost an auxiliary weapon in addition to Sword/Torch, but this alone should give you a hint how ‘proactively’ versatile the class can be. Here is another good word to describe the Ranger: Nonchalance.
BuffaloMan, for one it’s a game that wants and needs you to actually take note of the stuff happening in the world as opposed to stuff happening on the UI and to react to it accordingly. And without the need of an extra hand, that is
And then… at least from my experience as a Ranger, I found it quite nice how my playstyle did not mainly evolve through getting new abilities, but through me thinking about how to effectively use the arsenal at my disposal. In numbers, what once was a

went to

Here’s a vote for ranger. Now, mind you, playing a Ranger lazily is probably more tedious and dangerous than, say, a lazy approach to a Warrior, but let me tell you how I kill a lot of stuff:
‘4’ (Throw Torch)
‘F’ (Chop Tree)
Nah. Still bugged. And actually, extra so. See screen: You might want to seal (at least one of) those openings. I swam into it and got stuck on the backside of the rock objects.
A whole chain of stuff that made me smile:
I was exploring the uncharted territory of Harathi Hinterlands yesterday and was at some point where I had started to avoid any fights and just wanted to find some human settlement or Seraph outpost or someplace safe to sell and salvage stuff and generally rest a while. Yeah, “someplace safe” in what seemed to be a full-blown warzone. Anyways, while in this avoidance mode, I notice a patrol of 4 Centaurs with 2 Warbeasts. And … taking on a group of 6? But then I also note Mr. Oaktree next to me. Harrr. Barrage into patrol, run behind Oaktree, sit down and enjoy the show.
Just after that, I eventually reached the Seraph base not far to the west, where, upon my arrival, the biggest event started I have participated in so far. So much for “make a rest”.
Last memorable thing of the chain happened upon my hike back to the base and it involved another of the aforementioned patrols, no Mr. Oakheart, the sudden demise of said patrol, a timeframe of no more than, estimated, 6 seconds and me discovering the potential kittenery of my ranger.
And then, I will just say:
• the ravine in the northwest of Brisban Wildlands
• Gotala Cascade Vista, a wrong step and “_h_m_io_” seen through the leaves, down there where I’m falling to
Cultural Shmultural, pffft. Transmutation is the new Black!
Here we have Caeen, level 46, along with his trusty dog Jason and the coat he’s been wearing ever since he ventured out of Caledon Forest for the first time.
