Is sword weak?

i think scepter is the highest single target dps for a stationary target. otherwise the prize goes to 1hs

scepter is still the highest single target dmg for non moving targets.

You go from “thinking” to a bold claim with one post. Care to substantiate that statement?

If you go to the mists with a stopwatch and test it on a heavy golem, scepter will kill the golem in 6.2 – 6.4 seconds while sword will take 6.8 – 7.1 seconds. I was able to get the sword as low as 6.4 seconds, but that was definitely not the norm. I haven’t tested the mace out on the golems yet.

As a side-note, GS will down a heavy golem in 5.4 seconds, but that is due to being able to burst with #4 & #2. When on cool-down, GS DPS drops off quite a bit. Also, since I have about 50% less +Crit-Damage in the mists then I do in my PvE/WvW gear, you don’t see as much benefit from right-handed strength on the golems. I kill mobs in Orr with a 1-h sword before the burning from activating justice wears off. GS seems like an eternity in comparison.

Scepter = best single-target sustained DPS if they stand in the smite
1h-sword = best single-target DPS for killing things that don’t stand in the fire

My personal experience with the scepter is that it works the best when you treat it like a melee weapon with extended range. If you can stay around 250-300 from your target, the orbs tend to hit without issue. If you go 600 – 1200 from your target, better hope your target is a wall.

I'm officially a convert to sword+torch

Cleansing Flame has a longer range then sword #1. It lets you tag more mobs with the AOE. It is much better then sword #1 because you can strafe and tag a bunch of mobs with it. The only other real option for 1-handed AOE is mace #2 with the larger symbols trait. (Mace #3 isn’t reliable for tagging)

Sword/Torch is strong because you can maintain 100% uptime on burning which allows you to get the full potential out of Fiery Wrath. Scepter/Torch is probably stronger if the target will stand in the middle of your smite for the whole duration.

BTW, you can’t test DPS on the golems because they die too fast.

FYI, gw2db.com doesn’t work if you just click the link. I don’t even know if I’m looking at the correct build when I cut-n-paste the link or if you actually are only lvl50. (gw2skill.net links correctly so people just have to click the link. You’l probably get more replies since people are too lazy to cut-n-paste. lol)

If you are lvl 50, the reality is that you’ll level up just fine with any mix of valk., knights, and zerker.

When you first hit 80, I’d suggest going to the BLTP and buying green valkyrie jewelry and an even mix of valkyrie and knights armor with yellow zerker weapons. Don’t bother with yellow armor. The stats difference is not worth the price.

I would then work on the following:
1) Exotic zerker weapons (+5% crit sigil for the off-hand)
2) Replace your valkyrie jewelry with exotic valkyrie jewelry (Buy from BLTP)
3) Replace your armor with exotic pow/tough/vit armor with beryl orbs. (karma vendor in orr or dungeons)

1-handers are the way to go. You’ll be an iron cannon once you have gear. Just go 10/30/30/0/0 for sword or 0/30/30/10/0 for mace, and enjoy the destruction. Don’t under estimate the torch or the mace though. They are both geat, and I would suggest trying sword + torch for sure.

Also, I would swap binding jeopardy for fiery wrath. The sword is excelllent at keeping your enemies’ hair on fire via the justice passive. You are losing out on what is probably the best talent in the zeal line for a sword user. (and then swap the focus for a torch and use the focus with scepter as your other weapon set. :-D )

I switched from 2handers to 1handers about a month ago. I salvaged my mystic GS shortly afterwards. 1handers are awsome.
