Any word if this is one of the skill challenges fixed in the latest patch? Would really like to get this zone finished

Power or Precision?

I build Precision & Crit Damage. Precision gives you both +health (with the trait) and +crit chance.

For my own part, I’m totally in love with Blurred Frenzy and Chaos Storm. I really want to like Winds of Chaos, but it’s also way, way too slow. The speed on it needs to be doubled, then it will be competitive.

So I summed everyone’s answers, to give you some idea about what’s liked and disliked most:

Worst:
#1: Phantasmal Mage (8 down votes)
#2: Mind Slash (6 down votes, mostly for Mind Stab)
#3: Mirror (5 down votes)
#4: Mimic (4 down votes)
#5: Ether Bolt (3 down votes)

Best:
#1: Chaos Storm (9 up votes)
#2: Temporal Curtain (8 up votes)
#3: Feedback (8 up votes)
#4: Blurred Frenzy (5 up votes, 1 down vote)

(notes: I gave everything a +1 or -1 based on whether it was on a “best” or “worst” list. I skipped anything that said “all X”, as that’s not definitive – however, “mantras” might appear near the top of the Worst list as everyone hates them, and “block skills” also got a high number of down votes. Finally, if someone put in more than 3 skills, I put in the first 3 recognizable (solitary) skills listed, even if some skills appeared on the same line – the assumption there being that the first one you thought to list is really the one you slightly prefer)

this is a wasted post to force the page to wrap properly. Without 50 posts, there won’t be tabs at the top to click on, so this topic will appear to be blank.

Phantasmal Mage summons a phantasm whose name is Illusionary Mage.

Well, that’s just dumb. haha

Can someone tell me what “iMage” refers to? We have no skill called i___ Mage, so I’m not sure… maybe it’s Phantasmal Mage, but that doesn’t fit the descriptions I’ve read here.

Sword + Pistol seem a bit weak

This really is my bread-and-butter for tight groups of small numbers of mobs or single targets. Unfortunately, I find myself having to range a lot, and out of necessity I use a shortbow in that situation. But Pistol Whip is such a hugely powerful skill, it’s worth using this combination over any other, imho. Plus, I still have fun things I can do on my other skills (I leap around a battlefield like crazy, trying to avoid ever spending too long in one spot)

Stealth issues

I like to say that we don’t have any true stealth mechanic. In other games, thieves would get a full-time stealth that they could use to get around and avoid mobs entirely. That’s how I like to play MMOs. It worked wonderfully well in LotRO and in SWtOR, the two games that taught me to play thieves. Here, however, I’m lucky to even get away from mobs using stealth. First, mobs dominate the landscape so much and have such large aggro ranges that even if I can stealth away from one mob, chances are I’ll be coming out of stealth right into the aggro of another mob. Second, the aggro ranges are so long and the stealth so short that I probably won’t

It's about time we talk about infiltrator's arrow.

I have problems with it all the time on flat surfaces.
First, I hate that it’ll still fire off (and use its cooldown) when it’s outside of range. Sometimes I think I’m in range, especially in WvW, and it shows no red line underneath, but by the time the skill goes off I’m out of range. Rather annoying.
Second, sometimes it doesn’t pull the entire distance. A mob could get caught on a pebble that’s barely visible on the terrain.
Third, said pebble could cause the skill not to fire at all.
Fourth, some mobs are inexplicably immune.
Lastly, for some reason, the last time I was in a dungeon and tasked with pulling mobs, I would accidentally start fights with entire groups because I’d walk up into range and my #1 skill would auto-fire before I could click the arrow. I wasn’t doing anything that I know of to cause that skill to fire, it just would.

Do exotic items drop from mobs?

I know I see lvl 80 exotics on the AH, so they have to come from somewhere!

I have no idea how to level.

Yeah, the secret to leveling is AoE. Any attacks you do that hit multiple targets will grant you XP for every single target, and help increase your participation in Dynamic Events.

Orange circles on the map indicate nearby dynamic events, and it’d really help you to run over and do them. Hearts indicate stationary “quests”, and you can do a number of different things to fulfill their requirements. Finally, don’t be afraid to map between different zones: I’ll get into a zone and level at each heart point until I fall a level below the available hearts, and then switch to another zone that I’m now somewhat over-level for and level there until I’m behind again, and switch back. It’ll help you with your zone completion (and give you great loot).

Also, make sure you have every type of harvesting tool, and harvest everything you can. Harvesting grants XP, and if you craft as well, that’ll grant you XP, too. You can sell off your spares or you can keep them for an alt when you get that far

Is it worth buying recipes?

Agreed with Nanashi – certainly the max level (400 skill) items are worth-while, but anything before that probably isn’t. Unless it’s a rare dye recipe
