I’m also experiencing this issue. Cannot whisper anyone, or talk in any chat channel (map/say/party). For me it started before I turned any town clothes into tonics :\
1. Ranger
2. Engineer
3. Elementalist
If there’s still room, I’d be game for an invite.
I haven’t yet, and probably won’t. I can usually tell if I don’t like a character by level 40-50, and I have no problem deleting them in that range. If I stick with them after level 50 there’s little doubt that I’ll end up keeping them all the way to max level, and beyond.
Rolled a charr (actually, a couple of them) because I wanted to see if they could be tipped over in their sleep. The rolling was an accident due to gravity and being atop a hill.

In all seriousness I rolled a Charr because I really liked their design in GW1. EotN further piqued my curiosity about their culture, and I really wanted to play one after that. I’m really glad I did. Charr are one of my favourite Guild Wars species now, and it’s hard to go back to playing anything else.
I run into this sometimes when my Ranger is gathering in Orr (she uses, you guessed it, a bear!). It’s funny, but also really weird to have people randomly asking me if I’m a bot, just because I went over to mine a node on my way by it. lol.
While I would like an option to explore these maps without being forced into pvp by an enemy server’s mobs, I don’t think having a toggle on/off option is a fair one.
What’s to stop someone from toggling their flag off and going to snoop in enemy territory? Completely invulnerable to harm from enemy players, they’d be able to scout out areas unfairly. Or worse a group could turn their flag off, bypass defences, and then turn their flags on.
I think a simpler solution for everyone would be to make PvE-only instances of these maps. That way people who aren’t interested in WvW don’t have to struggle through it, and those who enjoy WvW can play with others who are there for the WvW.
Yeah the invisible mobs really kill the events. At Morgan’s Spiral I couldn’t see anything, and turrets were killing things before they even materialized. So I could only see the Karka after they were dead :\
TC definitely has a large number of active Charr players, and my ranger is rarely the only Charr in an area.
The higher level Charr zones are usually a lot more quiet than other areas. However, I was in Fireheart Rise yesterday and I did run into quite a few other Charr players questing through the zone.
Solo’d as a Mesmer with phantasm build. Just wanted to see if I could do it. Only died from fear-falling, lol.
Finally beat it after switching over to my Asura! I tried many times on my Sylvari and always messed up the beam jumps, lol.

26, and I love the game. Been playing since early release and still finding new things to do everyday.
