Are you in EU or NA? What price range is affordable to you?
North America. I don’t want to give prices, but let’s say I could probably handle anything but the most overclocked devices. Like I said, I’ve seen this coming and have been saving up.
May be you want to get some kind of breakfast tablet (the ones you use for having breakfast in bed) as a base for your in-bed-gaming or something alike (may be a friend or relative can carpenter something adequat).
I’ve actually been thinking about doing that, yeah. I’ve mostly used laptop pad/coolers in the past. I’ve seen a few breakfast table/laptop tables that might be nice.
In addition, I know it’s weird, but I use a wireless Logitech controller, because of the way I have to sit. It covers a lot of my movements and actions and allows more comfortable gameplay.
I’ll preface this by saying that I know towers are the way to go for gaming – especially Guild Wars 2, but I have a medical condition that keeps me in bed a lot, so I often have to play from there.
I’ve been playing since beta, but my current laptop has finally died, and I’m looking for suggestions as to what would be a good laptop for my needs. Basically, I only use it for games – with GW2 being the one played most often.
I’m looking for a 15" that’s not too heavy (I know the really thin laptops get amazingly hot, so I’m looking for something maybe in the 7lb range?) It has to be on my legs a lot anyway. I have a decent enough budget, mostly because I knew this would be coming.
Thoughts on brands?
Honestly, I could care less about the skin. It looks cool, but. Whatever.
This is the only thread that remotely matches what I’m truly upset about and that’s that I’ve been playing for three Wintersdays now, and they’ve always been about fun! I’ve never been good at the puzzle – for various medical reasons I use a controller, and it doesn’t handle timed puzzles well. I’m not good at the snowball thing either. I’ve always loved bells, and loved making snowmen, but bells don’t count for achievements and snowmen have been taken away as an achievement.
As it stands, I’m having to do things that I don’t enjoy and things I am not good at to get an achievement that I’ve always gotten every year (the progressive toymaker achievement) – and that may sound like small potatoes, but it’s always been something to make me laugh and make me proud I’ve been here so long. Why make Wintersday about chores and having to do things you don’t enjoy? That seems completely counterproductive. As it stands, I probably won’t be getting my achievement this year. It’s really sad and frankly frustrating.
If you’re going to offer different activities for people to enjoy, then they should all count toward the achievement. Like getting a certain score in bells some number of times, or making snowmen, or donating to children. I miss the fun achievements, and I’m really disappointed in this year’s event.

I’m not sure it’s that simple, since upgrading the hall will also require doing missions, etc. but it is certainly an option to get the basic thing.
I’ve been reading the veritable trove of information on guild halls, and it all sounds amazing! But not one blog post has (yet) approached the issue of whether or not smaller guilds will be able to manage the costs and player numbers to reach their guild hall. My guild is smaller (less than 15 people) and though we have all been in the game since beta and love running dungeons and fractals together, we have yet to be able to complete our first mission due to our lack of numbers.
From what I’m reading, it truly sounds like we aren’t going to be able to have a hall either unless we recruit, which we don’t want to do because we are a tight group of friends. Can someone please address whether this will be accessible by groups of 8-10?
Answering my own question. I contacted support and they will not be exchanging scraps for tokens. So if you have leftover fortune scraps, you might as well use them. That is, unless for some reason they bring them back in the future. I’ll be using mine for backpack skins.
And spending a lot of time after WvW seasons in earning back my tokens.
Thank you for the suggestions. At least I know I can use them. I guess I’ll be spending most of my time going after tokens again.
The black lion weapon trader (near the trading post in Gendarran fields) traded in them not long ago. Not sure if he still does.
No – that went away with this release. And even if so, it only traded for gold scraps, not these new tokens.
So I held on to my fortune scraps with the hope that the zephyrites would return because I had 241 – almost enough for a helm. Now the currency is changed and I have to start all over again.
Does anyone know if there’s someplace I can exchange fortune scraps for the new tokens?
tomorrow patch day, most TC wont go wvw for a while. some anyway.
SoR gonna kick our butt.
Not all will PvE! I’m usually a big PvE fan, but I’ll be waiting til the weekend to check the patch out so I can continue to help out in WvW. Encouraging my guildies to do the same.
Honestly, I know there is a lot of SoR smack talk going on, but I’ve really had fun with my fights against them so far. As far as the 2v1 situation goes, I think it’s less that we’re trying to beat SoR down and more that it’s just rational strategy. JQ wants 2nd place and TC wants 3rd, so unfortunately, this isn’t a good week to be SoR. But hey, you guys are really keeping up a good ppt, so it’s not over yet!
TC will continue to bring it hard because, yeah, we’re really motivated and want to pull together as a server to secure 3rd place. I don’t know that we’re necessarily ‘mean’ about it. ‘Driven’ is a better descriptor, maybe.
Go Yaks!
What happened to TC? Did they get a new influx of less than charming individuals?
They used to be such a polite server.
Dude, I’m FROM TC, and I’m asking myself the same thing… I apologize in any case.
Also, a shout out to the JQ who let me and a couple of guildies into the JQBL JP yesterday so I could help one of them get their achievement. I salute you.
I’ve looked all over for this, but can’t seem to find if there’s a way to do this. Am I missing something?
Thanks, guys! I’ll definitely look into this. And yeah, I’m well aware I can’t take down a Good thief as a ranger, but tips to not looking like an idiot are always helpful.
I’m running heavy prec build with omnomberry ghost and 2 traps.
You can partly burst thief when he triggers 2 traps and use 4th warhorn skill. In most cases it should be around 5.5k damage for me + shortbow him till he gets to you and by that way he is half hped with conditions around 700hp/s (i do only kittenage per bleeding).
Then throw next traps and after 2-3 sec of his stealth immobilize of fear by your pet (on WvW almost always best pet choice is dog and wolf). And well, yeah. Condition build on ranger isn’t really strong one.
I run with 3k armor, 2.9k attack and around 60% critical chance with ~40-50critical damage and 16k health and tbh, biggest problems are mesmers since they attack as well from far. Thieves have to come near so traps almost always work and then with sb & s/wh you got 3 evade skills.
This is a lot of what I’m already doing – but to be honest, I think I probably just need more practice with it. I am running dog and wolf, with LB / Axe-Warhorn at the moment. Two traps, entangle, and fear.
use AOE’s and immobilizes – torch 5 if traited can be a decent AOE with nice damage. muddy terrain is good, as is entangle. if you’re running with sword get the fire leap combo as it will burn them if they attack you.
knockdowns – run hyena for 2 knockdowns, and raven for burst! it will be glorious
I’m kind of kicking myself that I never thought of using torch for AOE…
I’ll preface by saying that obviously, thief has the upper hand in WvW, especially one who knows their stealth build well, but I was wondering if any of you had any tricks or tips for dealing with a thief in a skirmish?
I’m still toying with builds and getting a feel for things – currently have a condition/trap heavy build, and it works well in some ways, especially against pretty much any profession except thieves or mesmers. Dealing with the stealth honestly baffles me.
Suggestions?
