Liink to add build diversity they should get rid of the weapon specific skill idea and allow for those skills to be swapped out as a player chooses. However have a secondary effect if you do use the corresponding weapon. For example, a warrior’s whirlwind ability. One could swap it in as part of a skill build with hammer but sense its a hammer it is used as normal, but if wielding GS or sword it gets a secondary effect of adding a %chance to bleed or crit.
Then just make the whole trait system more of a skill support system based on offensive, defensive, and supportive paths.
This way playsers can play with the skills and they like and build their traits around the skills used and not the other way around which seems to be the case right now.
Any ways thats my theorycrafting 2 cents hope it makes sense as I would love to see this kind of idea implemented. Would making playing more enjoyable to me.
I’m a more of a casual player with guild wars 2, and enjoyed it sense beta. GW2 for me seems to be lacking, or what some post I’ve seen seem underwhelming. GW2 is a great game so why does it seem underwhelming? Just started playing again this week and still felt meh about playing. Then while questing with my lvl30+ warrior it dawn on my why GW2 felt underwhelming for me at least. Its needs more focus on profession continuity, and like the title suggests I think those 3 areas would help make GW2 more entertaining and less underwhelming.
New weapons I’m sure we’d all like to see more and for Anet isn’t easy because they’d have to create all new skills for them. However, they could add new ones to retool current skills to more fit the professions I guess you can say theme. 3 weapons I’d like to see is pol-arms, Flails, and shorts spears. One quick way to introduce these without to much retooling of skills is to swap them out with a professions current slot weapons. For example guardian’s can use stakitten and wands. This never made much sense to me given this profession is heavy armored and meant to be up in mob’s faces. way no drop the staff/wand usage and put in pol-arm in place of staff and flail in place of the wand. Adds new weapon content and fits the professions theme a lot better.
Another thing that I started to think about was skill graphic. Some do a good job at being visually appealing while others don’t. Also placement of some skills which goes back to retooling again. All this started like I said questing with my warrior and just noticing after 30+ lvls that his “hammer shock” skill did a cone of damage for a short range. I didn’t notice until then i realized because the skill it’s self lacks a powerful graphic that visually just makes me want to say BAM when I use. Its just hits the ground and some dust fly out in a cone. To add that BAM factor Anet should beef up the graphics on it. Add a crater when it hits and in the AoF have the ground crack and break and have a fire look spewing out of the crack. Beefing up skills graphics in my opinion will make game play more entertaining because it will visually stimulate us not bore us.
I also mention retooling and moving some skills around to not only fit roles with professions but give them get some usage. Another guardian example is to move ring of warding with empower. Retool them to make them more desirable. Empower is a staff skill would look and feel great as a hammer skills. Imagine a guardian smashing his /her top of the hammer into the ground starts to channel the skill and underneath s a mark pulsing and damaging any Mobs in it while it finishes channel. I good rarely used skill now becomes more usable and has that BAM feel.
I could go on and on about skill graphics and moving them to fit better with other weapon slots, but lets hear what all you other players think about my post. feel free to agree, disagree, or and more suggestions. My only hope is that Anet reads this and implements these ideas into GW2 profession to to give them will detail flushed out appeal like all the cities and content areas have. lets help put that kind detail and great looks to the professions and their skills.
