Initially I wanted to buy the ultimate pack for my son and I because I thought 4000 gems + 1 character slot is more than the cost of $50. But after reading all the complaints about $50 being overpriced for a basic pack, I am having second thoughts about the expansion.

You guys have changed my mind as I feel your pain. I am waiting to see how ArenaNet would respond.

In all seriousness if you were looking at a particular package ArenaNet is offering and you thought, “yeah, ok, a great gift” then I’d probably go ahead and buy it. I’m sure your son will love it regardless.

Yes. Exactly. What I was hoping by starting this thread is that more people could come to see it that way instead of bandying about a tired and completely misused meme that’s been floating around here.

I see you are just picking what you liked out of my post. I have no problem deleting a character to roll a rev as I have one just holding the name I wanted to call my rev, as I didn’t like engineers. One of the selling points of HoT is the rev. So if you buy the base edition and have filled out your 5 slots you got with the base game, you have a pay wall that stops you enjoying 100% of what you payed for.

Sure, but the same is true of buying the base GW2, as there were eight classes but only five character slots. you couldn’t play them all without either buying additional slots or deleting characters.

If you want to make a Revenant without paying another dime, then buy the slot with gold or delete a character. If you want to play the Revenant without deleting a character, then buy an additional character slot. That is the deal, they don’t owe you anything better than that, all they owe is what they offered, that you have the OPTION of filling any empty character slots you may have with Revenants.

I’m not saying ANet must give everyone a “free” character slot with HoT, I believe it should have come with one.

You realize that’s the same thing, right? “I’m not saying they have to give me something for free, I’m just saying they should give it to me, and I shouldn’t have to pay for it.”

I think there’s a major disconnect on that last sentence. You are, in fact, not both saying the same thing. The word “free” is a key indicator here. There’s nothing free about it when we’re talking $50+. What he said would have more correctly, as some others in the community have said, been interpreted as something more like “the base value of the package without a slot probably should have been closer to $40 or $45. At $50 it should include a character slot figured into the price”. Again, value statement.

There’s no way for us to know who has or hasn’t spent money in the gem store beyond personal admission, but yeah, I suspect there may be a bit of that going on.

Totalbiscuit would simply say that he’s been telling us all for years now to stop the pre-order nonsense. He’d be totally right.

Please show one example of where anyone said they’re entitled to anything. I don’t see any. Instead what I see is largely a community consensus (between this and the other threads) that the value being offered for the asking price doesn’t match up in the minds of the player base. It is completely reasonable to let arenanet know that their sales won’t match their own expectations if they don’t get on the same page, value-wise, as their current customer base.

No entitlement. Just a bunch of people with 50 bucks, or more, that they’d be willing to part with if Anet meets them on that very basic free-market principle.

And, by the way, Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls came with an additional slot (it actually came with 2 slots and an additional 3 for a total of 5 if you bought the digital deluxe edition). Way to get your facts straight. But thanks for stopping by.

@Woljnir – You miss the point entirely. We’re not lamenting having made the purchases we’ve made. We’re pointing out (hopefully to areananet, because where our future money goes is between us and them) that we’re loyal “repeat” customers who’ve spent more than the standard amount with Anet, and feel we we may be being under served with their marketing decision. We’re further making it clear that the potential future dollars in the form of xpack & gem store purchases can very well go elsewhere.

Personally, I’m asking for clarity on the matter.

I really think they need to clarify this quickly.

For myself, I’ve got 2 accounts, meaning I’ve purchased the base game twice. I’ve also occasionally dumped real money into the gem store when I didn’t feel like converting gold. In short, I think I’ve been the model Anet customer.

The extra character slot(s) with the base expansion (not some “deluxe” edition) is the NUMBER ONE thing I’m looking for and want to know about. I don’t even mind that the expansion is 50 dollars (most expansions cost the same as the base game anyhow an there’s no monthly charge, so cool).

I will NOT buy the expansion on the hope of getting extra slots. I need to know ahead of time. Furthermore, If the expansion doesn’t come with any extra slots, I’ll simply not buy it period. I will instead, with unwavering certainty, walk entirely away from the game and take my real money gem store purchases with me. You might say Anet is big enough that they don’t care, and maybe that’s true. I write this all the same in the hopes that someone with Anet with real decision making power sees this and takes it into consideration.

A question: The sigil of leeching says that you gain its benefit after switching to that weapon while in combat. Since eles don’t get weapon swapping, how does that work with this build?
