If you’re offering support, it’s up to your team mates to use it intelligently as well as you to provide it intelligently. I can empathise, as more than once I’ve popped down a Chaos Storm to buff allies and they’ve responded with “OMFG AN AOE DODGE OUT OF IT!” Calmly pointing out that the purple bubbles will, in fact, not instantly kill you has gone a long way, though, and I think this is what most people forget; you can swap your skills before a fight, you can chat to your team mates before a fight. Tell them what to look out for, even what combo fields or finishers you can provide, what support you can offer. Really, it’s not that hard.
(Also, swapping to “simple” party layout in the options has helped me no end.)
“I should be allowed to survive using whatever build and strategy I like!”
Without trying to be intentionally offensive to anyone, I think you crazily underestimate just how awful some players are, and how they seem to point-blank refuse to listen to any supporting evidence or suggestions to help them clear content they think is “completely impossible and broken omg.”
I believe the group I was in solved it by having the Ranger aggro initially with his pet, while we stood back letting them unload their combo on the poor thing. After that it was a fairly simple matter to dive on the mobs; I kept them dazed and generally CC’d as much as possible while we took them down.
I can already sense the rage building as you construct a “BUT WHAT IF YOU DON’T HAVE A RANGER?!?!?!” rant; as a Mesmer I probably could have aggro’d and used Distortion to survive before stealthing to lose their focus. Thinking outside the box ftw.
