Found dead: the 'Zerker meta?

You’re not getting it. You can’t apply WVW and PVP challenges to PVE. Why? PVE goals have healthbars and because of this the only goal will be to drain that healthbar as fast as possible regardless of what the “challenge” is.

So does PvP/WvW. Notice that Courtyard, which literally has no goal but “kill things” still doesn’t have a Zerker meta.

You can’t introduce build/gear diversity without changing the goal of PVE, which literally means changing the goal from killing things to not killing things because as long as there is a healthbar the ultimate goal will be to kill it as fast as possible. This literally means you have to make PVE exactly like WVW or PVP with the same goals as WVW and PVP.

No, it doesn’t. It just means diversity in how encounters are set up. Players use a number of abilities that NPC’s just don’t, such as condition cleansing, boon rip, stun breaks, dodges, and Retaliation. There is quite a bit more to this list, but you get the jist of it.

Is courtyard that deathmatch PVP map? That was the one map I liked but didn’t get it enough either through rng map choice or being veto’d that it wasn’t worth going back to PVP for after I got my glorious armor I was after.

Even if they did program the AI to use all the tools that are at the disposal of the player and make them attack as fast as the player, those who can would still use zerker and those who can’t still wouldn’t use zerker… Just like it is now. Build diversity is already there. There’s nothing that says anyone HAS to run zerker or you can’t do this content. The zerker meta is player A imposed on other player B because player A wants to get content finished as fast as possible. Player B doesn’t like this because he is kicked from party for not running zerker meta and whines to Dev A to change it so player A cannot run zerker meta. That to me is fundamentally wrong. There’s no rules in this game that says that player B can’t cleric guard his way through content, just like there’s no rules that player A has to have player B in his dungeon/fractal team. To me, this whole “kill the zerker meta” is flawed from the start because I don’t see anyone chomping at the bit to “kill the no-dodge cleric” meta. It really boils down to: Play how I want you to play so I can play with you whether you like it or not… which that parentalism needs to die.

Collaborative Development: Ranger Profession

in CDI

Hey everyone,

Before things get out of hand, I want to address the aspect idea so we can move on. First of all, it’s a great idea, but there are many current issues with the profession that need to be addressed first. Our priorities to make the pet a more viable option will likely remain higher than giving an option to “permastow” the pet.

We recognize there are a number of issues with the pet AI and general functionality, so that is something that will come first. Rangers are first and foremost a pet class, but they are also great skirmishers and some of the best sustained long range damage.

I don’t want you to think we’re going to ignore the idea or the feedback around the pet, but it could very well be the case that fixing some of the major nagging issues with the pet would make it a more desirable aspect of the Ranger.

That said, if you would like to consider discussing the aspect idea, I ask that you start a thread outside of the CDI to brainstorm.

Thanks so much for all the great, constructive feedback everyone! Let’s keep it coming!

If rangers truly are seen as the Pet class of GW2 then the devs need to be devoting time to handing more active control of the pet to the player. Currently if you look at other classes that are able to summon minions we really only have maybe one more level of control compared to them. This biggest difference between us and them is that our pets are mandatory.

Please please please give us more active control of our pets abilities in combat. Current f keys could be redesigned. You could also more closely link weapon skills to pet behaviour/ability (some weapons already have this a little bit). You could do a combination of these 2 ideas (that would be really exciting). Or who knows how else you could solve the problem?

As long as the pet is 90% tied to an ai though Rangers will be seriously kitten.

That is exactly my point. We want to make sure we’ve done everything we can to make the pet desirable before we consider any options for those that don’t want to play with the pet as much.

Doing everything y’all can to make the pet desireable means rewriting the pet AI to be independent. If y’all aren’t welling to do everything that you can, then give us the option to opt out. Y’all have been tweaking with band-aids since launch and it seems the box is empty.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times that everything else wrong with the Ranger takes a back seat until the class mechanic is properly fixed.

Actually I use it quite frequently in pve for zergs. Helps new players to the map know where the zerg is in the champ trains. Saves a lot of repeated “Zerg?” “Wheres da zerg be?” type questions.

Two things I’d like to see:

Perma-Stow pets during combat and DPS given back to Ranger.
Search and Rescue rolled back to res defeated players.

If they did the perma-stow option…. I’d be in Heaven and stop hating on the Devs for their views like those that Jon Sharp has pointed out in the STOG interviews.

Champion Runs???

Uh, it’s pretty simple: money. And being one of the better time efficient ways of making said money… especially if you have awesome RNG.

But they are not effective at all. The reason people do it is, because it is something which rewards you for being braindead.

Yeah. It is effective despite your wanting it not to be, if there was something that was more effective people would be doing that en masse then.. As a matter of fact is was so effective Anet nerfed the amount of coin you got from Champ bags at one point. It is less effective now than it was before that nerf but it is still really effective. Champ train along with some quick dungeon runs is the best way to go about getting coin, IMO. A few hours = at least 10g. Especially if I get some some good drops.

I 2. Address stacking and other dungeon exploits, the reason people can get away with zerker builds is that everyone just stacks at a safe place and rolls their face on the keyboard until the enemies are dead, its not fun in the slightest and not challenging at all.

You do realize stacking isn’t an exploit, right? It’s using the intended mechanics efficiently as possible. Of course, if you think stacking is an exploit I have to immediately dismiss anything you say outright as you simply do not understand the game mechanics are built around melee and being in melee range to share boons.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

thefantasticg.3984

Y’all know that legendary armor is eventually going to come out and have the same stat-changing ability as the weapons right?

I don’t care for the veritical progression at all. That’s why I’m not making any ascended gear what-so-ever. I’m buying with the laurels, because I don’t mind some grinding (infact I love to farm as it’s just relaxing mindless activity)… but the time gating aspect of the ascended crafting severely kitten es me off thus I do not take part of it.

Besides, I am not going to upgrade my exotics until there’s two levels higher than what I have. It’s like my photography hobby. Upgrading camera bodies every year is kittened because it is a small update, but wait two-three years and it’s a big update. Speaking of which, going to upgrade my camera body in late 2014.

PS: Talk is cheap. The CDI from the Dec 10th proved a PR move and nothing more as the two months of cheap talk was exactly that. Unless action is taken from these CDIs stop doing them. They aren’t changing the prespective of anyone with a three digit IQ.

Guild Taxes

Having an guild item you can buy with influence would be best. Activate it and for 24 hours events completed yield an extra 5% gold which goes Strait to the Guild bank. Possibly even have the item cost a couple of merits.

This way the guild must work together to get it but individual members are not out anything. But as leaders you would need to decide when is your guilds most active time to get the most out of it

This is a much better suggestion than what the OP suggests.

  • On internal servers, been playing around with a few new Ranger specs

So, you’ve obviously seen the need to replace pets with something more functional like perma-stow-to-buff or preparations from GW1 and return 100% dps to the Ranger, right? You’ve also obviously seen the need to keybind the active/passive command, right? RIGHT? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT????

Going to spend more time on my other hobbies than GW2. Anet Devs have been trying really hard the last six months to make me hate them. They are succeeding.

Don’t care if they give me the ability to swap stats. It is still going to take longer to kill the same things I’ve already killed 1000s of times before. No. Just… no.

Kill the Queensdale champion train.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

thefantasticg.3984

Instead of killing the champ train why dont we make activities in other maps more rewarding? Im kinda tiered of this “i dont like it so nerf the kitten out of it” attitude that is in all MMO’s why dont we do the reverse and bring everything up instead of bring one thing down?

Most of us that use that thing between our ears are tired of this seemingly endless dribble of “I don’t like it so nerf the kitten out of it!” because of nimrods that are mentally ill with parentlism.

Best way to kill a champ train is to make the rest of the events (meaning all events everywhere on every map) more profitable. People who call for things like champ trains to be nerfed need to be banned, at least for two weeks, because obviously they have a mental condition (parentalism) that needs to be cured.
