Well, Anet, you can thank Angry Joe’s review of your game. If it wasn’t for that review I wouldn’t have purchased your game for me or my Wife. I also wouldn’t have gotten my sister and brother into playing it either.

Azure, not really. When I run that dungeon we still DPS that boss down instead of wasting time with the totems or worrying about CC since he has the defiance stacks.

Mokah… You must be new here because they have a history of bringing things down to match instead of lifting things up to match.

A dev has already said they’d rather change the preception of something than actually improve it. That’s why the ranger shortbow got nerfed to make the longbow look better by comparison. That is fact. That is history. That was done. That was not the only case of it either. There is no reason to believe they won’t bring down Zerkers instead of bringing up other types of builds due to past history… So, I repeat, you must be new here.

Seems like a few people get it that until the mechanics of the game move to bring in the holy trinity there is no reason to do anything other than DPS… Which is why all of my toons are setup for zerker. I don’t understand why you’d want to run anything other than DPS unless you are in 40+ factals… but even then…

JonPeters, you guys can try to change the meta but until fundamentals of the game are changed (like getting rid of condi caps and defiance) then DPS will always be king.

[PVE][Ranger Pet] The Handicap

in Profession Balance

Posted by: thefantasticg.3984

thefantasticg.3984

So, a certain lead game designer has admitted pet F2s and general AI cannot be fixed without touching every creature in the game because they share code during the infamous CDI events…. Great. Ok. Lets do something about that. Since the Ranger class is balanced with a broken class mechanic that is expected to have 100% uptime, why not give the option to stow the pet for a buff and transfer 100% damage output returned to the Ranger? There should be an option for those of us who don’t want to use a broken class mechanic. After playing other characters that have class mechanics that work as intended it makes me hate my pet that much more… and don’t get me wrong, I love playing my Ranger but hate playing a Ranger with the pet. Until they are fixed or we are given the option not to use them and given control over 100% of our damage output, the Ranger will always be handicapped.

2. They won’t fix pets because they’d have to admit they were wrong. They either don’t have the map power or ability to fix them.

3. Someone gave a great suggestion: when you make a ranger you can choose either Preparations or Pets. I went and read up on GW1 Preps and I want this badly. So much. I am not holding hope for it though.

Over all, I’m losing interest in this game between Anet’s refusal to replace or perma-stow pets and the lack-luster updates in the Living Story content.

*Art Progression

Now the Ranger (was my main) pet is just so bad I decided that my Gaurdian needed to be my main as the class mechanic actually works on them.

Until they give me the option to perma-stow my pet, this class will never be great. There has been better pet AI ten years ago. That’s not exaggeration. That’s fact. You can blow hot air until you are blue in the face or deny until you die, but it is beyond a shadow of a doubt that the pet is the Achilles heel of this class. There’s no debate on this despite the blow-hard denialist on this forum that are convinced the pets are worth a dam when they aren’t.

December 10th Ranger changes

@ all those people hoping to get rid of the pet entirely:
Look no further, there’s a simple solution. Roll a warrior, pick longbow, select the Stronger Bowstring trait et voila, there you go, your own personal archer without a pet. It’s really that easy. ArenaNet stated countless times that the Ranger is primarily a pet class. Time to believe it, guys.

Uh, no. You can accept the shaft in unpleasent places but I’m not. I’ve got a warrior. It’s just not as fun as a Ranger. The Ranger feels like an archer in ways the Warrior can’t replicate. The Ranger is fun to play in ways the Warrior is not. Had you done what you suggest you would know this. Anyone who rolls both knows this. If I recall the Ranger in GW1 was “primarily pet” class but the pet was still optional. There is NOTHING stopping them from doing that in GW2. I whole heartily believe it is beyond their technical capabilities to program the pet AI to react the way it needs to, to make it worth a flip in any given situation. Simply put: if they could do it they would have already. They’ve been doing this for better part of a decade. If they could they would have already. You can blow all the smoke you want but that doesn’t change the fact pets lack dodging and that’s bad in a game built on damage mitigation through dodging. If anything they should do what they did in GW1 and bring in preparations as an option to pets. I wouldn’t care if I had to delete my Ranger and re-roll to get preps (as I would lose my infinit axe, pick, sycle) but it would be worth it… and I imagine at least half of the Rangers out there would do the same thing.

So, you can sit back and take it like a quiet lassy but I’m not. I’m going to complain until the make the class I love playing and make it great.

Help me fix ranger as a class!

in Ranger

Posted by: thefantasticg.3984

thefantasticg.3984

We tried to help Anet with the class through their own CDI. Very little has seem to come of it. Only thing that came out of if was that we learned they can’t fix our pets AI or F2 without a complete overhaul of every creature in the game… Yeah. Forever band-aided is the status-quo for our pets thus Rangers are forever handicapped. I had high hopes after that admission that Anet would finally relent and give us an option to have pets or not… I still hold out hope, but after playing on my other toons so much more its easier just to use a class where the class mechanics work and learn to love it like my Ranger than to keep hope alive that Anet will fix the pets. Speaking of which, I don’t understand how a certain developer could say we shouldn’t have more control over our pets because it will scare away new players (someone can link the State of the Game video if they want where it was said by a “sharp” developer) but the Elementalist weapons w/attunements… Jesus. Every weapon set has 20 attack options! I don’t see how having more control of the pets would overwhelm new players but attunements does not.

I don’t enjoying kittening in the wind with my mouth open because if Anet’s own initative to get the “community brainstorming” was ignored I have no hope for this to help. Either way, good luck to you.

Can I just take a moment to remind people of something?

The damage rapid fire does has not increased with the patch.

Before the patch, it was actually LESS dodge-able than it is now, with MORE guaranteed damage on the target.

The only different to the weapon now is the time frame in which Rapid Fire deals it’s damage, and it comes down to the point that has been argued up and down these forums now that we can compare the old sustained damage longbow to the new burst longbow; In theory, sustained damage is better because it is harder to mitigate since it is dealt consistently. However, in practice, players have a harder time reacting to burst damage based on skill ceiling/floor, resulting in burst usually having an overall higher effectiveness against players ill-equipped to handle the mechanics of burst damage.

Go up against a good player. Like, an ACTUALLY good player. You will almost never land even a hit of rapid fire, because they know to counter the longbow, they have to dodge the skill and get into melee where dodging “through” a character cancels their cast, and incidentally, the autoattack damage is also at its lowest at close range.

If rapid fire is “still landing one or two hits,” it always did this. In fact, before the patch, you could double dodge and still be hit with ~5 hits of Rapid Fire versus the 2-3 you might land now, and the damage per arrow hasn’t increased.

ANet has stated explicitly, multiple times, that players shouldn’t be able to 100% completely negate the efforts of opposing players, because it’s already enough to be able to render them so ineffective that you should be more than capable of achieving a win against them.

The longbow is EXACTLY where it needs to be at now. If anything is broken after the patch, it’s the will of all of the bad players who can’t seem to figure out that they actually have MORE options to counter longbow users now.

As Orca pointed out, some people aren’t as fond of the pets. The idea of the buff would be to appease everyone. Also, what if stowing the pet and having an aspect gave the Ranger some kind of aura that communicated to others they are in that “aspect”? Would it still feel like the pet was a part of you if them being stowed affected your physical appearance?

If not, I don’t think the aspect idea would be a necessity for players. There are definitely things that need to be done to fix Ranger pets in general, and it’s something we are well aware of. If we fixed those things, but maybe also added in the aspect idea, I think we’d be in a spot where everyone would be pleased, no?

Just musing!

Some? No. Many many people. Just have a gander at how many threads have been created in the subforum about replacing them with something. If perma-stowing during combat = aura buff I am so hard for it that if I was anymore I would explode with infinite unicorn rainbows from every orifice.

Fun is subjective. What you find fun I may not. It is impossible to design anything that 100% of the player base will find fun and engaging. Take it or leave it.
