Anet is encouraging the player base to use a different venue to discuss WvW matches. They are being naive if they think the venues to host such communities are going to stop with just WvW matches as the subject matter. They are jeopardizing their entire feedback loop.

Back in the day, I used to play several MMORPGs (by various developers). Those games took the same mentality at release that Anet is doing now. They tried to separate themselves from the mudslinging that happens on forums.

The consequences of that separation ran pretty deep. The gaming communities found other venues to host forums (VNBoards was big back in the day). Since so much discussion started happening on 3rd party forums (that the developers didn’t always know about), the developers lost touch with their target audience…. which made the overall health of the games suffer. The developers then decided they would try to participate in those 3rd party forums, but found they had absolutely no influence over the community and had a less than stellar feedback loop. In some cases, it drove a wedge between the developers and the gamers.

In my honest opinion, if they truly want to continue a quality and productive feedback loop with gaming community, they should think long and hard about dismantling any part of it, no matter how productive (or unproductive, as it may be) it is. Once they jump down this rabbit hole, it’ll take a long rope to climb back out …. Anet will have to gain the trust of the community before they’d be willing to come back. In this day and age, having an offline gathering place for a given game is a necessity, requiring dedicated staff to maintain it.

I do think changes are necessary to keep the WvW matchups forum healthy, but closing the forum entirely seems to be rather extreme. I find it hard to believe they have exhausted all other options.

Let’s hope Anet has considered what I’m talking about and are prepared for what’s ahead.

At the end of the day, the new arena is designed for GvG and dueling. sPvP and WvWPvP aren’t the same thing it is a moot argument. All people ask is have their GvGs and duels respected and not be kittenbags and rush in with 20 man zergs to interrupt them.

I guess zerging the spawn point and rushing 1 person must be fun for some people, to each their own, I guess one never loses that way that must be why, lol. You guys should try some 1v1s or 5v5s sometime, I heard it is more fun then picking on stragglers and lil old me.

I think his point was that your screens didn’t show where the arrow carts were (looks like at least 2). The rings on the ground hitting your ac down there can be legit because of the gap above the gate. As for the ones on the supply hut, I don’t know. I’m not familiar enough with EGB to say for sure, but it might be possible to target the underside of the hut through the gap in the gate, and I think there’s also a hill or something to the South that might give vision up there. That’s why it helps to know exactly where the acs are.

To be honest I couldn’t find them by the time your zerg rushed in when wall went down, my sarcasm was only implied towards your team mate because he decided to be insulting instead of civil like yourself, and yer I myself use the door gap one, it was mainly just the supply hut that had me confused due to not being able to see an arrowcart on the hill next to pang entrance or on the hill opposite us.

SBI why you no come out of your tower to play with us. You only come when your commander comes with his mini zerg against 7 of us and throw a ballista down. It really made us laugh, and when he left you guys ran back in again.. =(

Please, we just want to have a little bit more FPS. Not everyone has bootcamp, or wants to boot into windows just to play the game. I assure you that Guild Wars has a large enough mac playerbase to make this worth it. The current client just isn’t good at all… FPS on my macbook pro 2012 15" 16gb ram 2.3 ghz processor with nothing else running is decent in a non-crowded area, but almost unplayable during things like world events or even zone champs with more than 10 people around. This is with every graphics setting virtually as low as they can be set..

Its honestly on the verge of unplayable and I know I am not the only one. I really wish anet gave more attention to the mac users, I understand how difficult a full native port would be but there must be something to get us out of this terrible wine wrapper that is dragging the performance down so much..

90% of the time I try to access the trade post, I have to restart my game client because it does not work. This has the be the most frustrating thing.

Helseth’s stream links belong in linksville because they are links. If somebody was starting a discussion, and happened to link his stream as reference to a point they were making, that would be different. What’s been happening is his stream is linked either with no discussion or with a transcript of his stream. In either case those belong in linksville, as that is what that subforum is there for.

Do the links to the PAX tourney belong in Linksville, just because they’re links? Even though it was the games first cash prize Structured PvP tournament? I mean, that rule just sounds extremely silly.

The more I read your post, the more incredulous I get. That is a particularly awful and narrow minded view for forum moderators to have. It doesn’t take much in the way of rational thought to understand why a Link to a discussion about Structured PvP belongs in the Structured PvP forums. Are we supposed to go to a different sub-forum, watch the video, then bring comments back here out of no where?

Why would I be in Linksville if I was interested in talking about/hearing others views on Structured PvP? This is absolutely mind boggling. If you were following some rule when you moved it, it’s an asinine one that needs a re-examination, post haste. If it was a judgement call on your part, it’s my opinion that it was a poor one, and I hope in the future it isn’t repeated.

Danicia, I understand that the forums are currently being polluted with a lot of negativity about the game and the way it is being handled by the developers, and there is a lot of exaggeration from the community that goes around. I personally feel the developers are doing a pretty good job, and that things take time, but I don’t have much experience from other MMOs to compare how they fare when it comes to these things. I still play because I continue to enjoy the game, and think ANet has done a fantastic job with it so far.
That being said, I know there are a lot of people that disagree with the way ANet has handled things in the past, and emotions run high within these people because they love the game, not because they detest it. Now, I’m in no position to tell you what to do, but it would seem as a community coordinator, it should be your job to ensure the negativity on the forums is toned down not by censoring the material that may incite it, but by properly communicating with your community on why things are the way they are (like you have done now). Deleting that particular thread was downright disrespectful towards Xeph and everyone that had posted in it.

I must call you out on that. On two occasions I appealed for an unjust infraction and I didn’t get any response. On one occasion I apparently broke the law, although the substance I mentioned is legal in my country AND Seattle. On another occasion I mentioned bisexuality in a lore thread about Sylvari sexuality which was promptly infracted. That’s just kittenly puppy. Appealed both, never got a response.

Locking this thread arbitrarily and copying/pasting the canned response is exactly what I feel needs to change in these forums. Im not looking for the ’run of the mill canned response that is given to people about how to get in contact with the forum mods because a response is never received.
