Load fram slow

The game is fetching all the textures and items that are being shown on the screen, when you WP somewhere all this has to be loaded from the hard drive at one time, when you are walking inside of a map things are being streamed off the hard drive as things come into view, and as such for the most part seem seamless. The only way to improve this is to move the game onto a faster drive such as a good SSD, you will still have load times, but it will be reduced by a good bit. You can pick up a SSD big enough for just the game for under $100.

Like, if you know pets are squishy, give them a temporary toughness boost until you find a better solution. That was just an example, but stuff like that could be done.

Because those temporary buffs have game-wide ramifications that must be tested and analyzed just like the permanent buffs do. It is not as easy as slapping 500 toughness on all pets and pretending like that has zero impact on the rest of the game when it absolutely does.

I’ve gotten in some trouble before about giving hints and releasing info early… so I’m going to leave that up to the people in charge if they want to do those things :x

Since your PM folder is always full I’d like to propose a question to you, as well as to hear the community opinion too.

Much like sPvP and GWG have their state of the game livestream, Is this something we could possibly work towards doing with the dungeon team?

Not to insult but I feel the amount of discussion about changes and interaction from the team is pretty low apart from the odd post in the stickies.

We all want to be able to help give feedback and also just have a little bit of dedicated time to get some burning questions answered.

Is this something we could maybe set up like a 20 minute stream each month with a few of the team members?

Thanks

Dinky

Advantage of Light Armor over Heavy

Not to derail the very mature quoting argument here, but, to answer the original question of the thread I think I found an answer.

The advantage of light armor over heavy is measured in skin shown. That’s about it.

Hope this helps!

[Forum tricks] Searching + Advanced method

Alright, so I’m writing this mainly because of the suggestions forums having 28*673=18844 threads, and some 200+ of them are about mounts.
So yeah, I’ll be mostly using the suggestion forums as an example.

INTRO Or

Why is this bad? Well, if everyone made a new thread every time they wanted to post about mounts (they basically do, but bare with me) all the other suggestions would be pushed down. What if among those suggestions, there was a golden suggestion that would ensure everyone had a blast playing GW2 while also somehow solving the world hunger and global warming?

So, as per stated in the forum code of conduct, you should just post your point in already existing thread about the matter if you can. This will bump the thread, of course, but won’t do harm for other, valuable suggestions.

Actual guide
So, there are two (maybe more) ways of searching the forums:
The quick way
1. Go to the sub-forum you are about to post
2. Locate the search field on the upper right corner of the screen
3. Type in a search term, for example “Mount”, see the results
4. Change the search word, for example “Last logged” and “Inactivity” will both produce results about threads suggesting adding a “Last logged in” column on the roster.
5. Reiterate a few times

The efficient method
1. Go to www.google.com
2. Type in your search word, then “site:” followed by the url to the subforum you are going to post in, for example “mount site:forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/”
3. You can also use the normal google tricks to make your search yield better results, for example:
“mount site:forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/ -maelstrom” so there won’t be any threads about the Mount Maelstrom, if you just wanted mounts.

If you still can’t find a thread related to your idea, post a new thread. (And congratulations for coming up with something unique.)

People who can argue often offer a good and meaningful conversation about the subject.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.

From personal experience the Ivy bridge line hands down gets better performance clock for clock on this game….Im running an i5-3570k 4.84ghz 47×103 8gb 2470mhz on a 7870 2gb and with shadows on med and shaders on med rest high I can maintain a solid 30+ in a battle of maybe 75+ i think i saw it drop to 28 once. But I ran fraps fps counter always so im always observing my fps.

I also would like to note that I did some memory for work for a friend and overlkittened his memory to 2600 under an i7-3770k and his min fps went up by about 3-4 in wvw solid. I havent seen him dip below 40 in a battle of 100 it sick lol. oh btw his 3770k his oc to 5.1.

One last thing man I really rec. building yourself a 3770k system esp. if you want the hyperthreading tec. If you have a microcenter near you id suggest looking them up because you can get a 3770k for like 230$ and a 3570k for 180$

I prefer GW2 – the RL dailies take far too long to finish, and are required if you want to gain any money at all. The dynamic events in RL are unclear and largely unrewarding.
I can’t find any karma vendors in RL.

Constant crashing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

That’s just a guess, but a similar thing happened 4 months ago. Suddenly with the introduction of a new game patch, lots of people (including me) started having game client crashes.

The game logs we posted back then mainly included problems of the game writing to memory addresses or similar memory related errors.

My guess is, that some RAM chips (e.g. so called value RAMs that very often have faulty sectors) just can’t manage the stress this game is producing. Those RAM chips only show strange behavior under very high stress and so you won’t notice any problems when using other applications/games.

Maybe with one of the last patches, the stress your memory chips have to handle has increased (culling fix)…

Back then, the crashes stopped for me because I built myself a new PC (not because of gw2 of course) with high quality RAM chips. And even then I had to deactivate the xmp profile to get rid of the last few random crashes (even though memtest ran more than 2 days without any errors with xmp profiles enabled).

Not that I don’t appreciate the content updates we get. I like this game and due to the hardware I’m using I also don’t have any problems any more. But I think it would be time for some code optimization too, especially when it comes to the cpu and memory utilization of this game…

Catching some errors (if possible, I don’t know the code of course) instead of letting the whole client crash would be a start, so that also players with standard hardware can run the game and also enjoy it.

Windows 8 Users, Disable Dynamic Ticking

In Windows 8, there is a new energy-efficient method for handling processor load. On-paper, your computer should perform well under general usage, and use less energy while idle.

This new method however can cause issues on some hardware, and may not even be wanted at all on Desktops focused on pure performance. In the past, this was more problematic for users, but a Windows Update has solved the problem of system lock-ups. Regardless, you may still be interested in disabling this option.

You will want to run this from an Administrative Command Prompt and reboot: bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

And after the reboot, you should check to see if you notice any improved performance.

Notes:
- Advice taken from: http://www.withinwindows.com/2012/06/28/workaround-for-windows-8-freezing-issues/
- This is only for Windows 8 (and Server 2012)
- This will increase power usage on idle, may be a concern for mobile users
- You should either have increased performance on general tasks, or no change at all if it was working properly (but you should not have worse performance)

the change that helps on 7 and lower(may work on 8 as well) is to force HPET (or in the case of first gen i7/i5, you want to diable it in bios and still use the commend to force best timer)
http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4412171&postcount=11
http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4412312&postcount=17

i have tested this on older amd to the latest amd no problems at all, the only platform i have seen issues from it on are first gen i series intels, and if you disable it in bios you still get a better timer then the mix of timers windows vista/7/8 use by default(forces windows to use the newest/best timer)

give it a go, even works on some of those old i5/i7 systems, but its very hit and miss(no harm trying it!!!)

Im probably wasting my time here considering u dont seem to see the obviose problem with that bench test on those cpu’s that were linked in the 2nd post….but.

CPU wise GW2 will run much better on a 2550k/3570k or 2700k/3770k or even a 3820 or 3930k.. over any AMD. However the FX 6XXX and FX 8XXX can give playable performance with GW2 so long as u dont intend on doing WvW to much. If ur a WvW player then the AMD cpu’s will drop below 30fps even when OC’d. If ur OK with 20-30 FPS in heavy WvW battles then a FX6 or FX8 will be fine so long as its OC’d.

Its all down to the single thread performance. Intel CPU’s r faster per thread, and as such GW2 performs better on them. Take a gander at this list to see where each cpu comes in hierachy for single thread performance. ignor those CPU’s that cant really be OC’d ..like Xeon chips, as all the scores would increase with a OC .. said Xeon chips dont OC well so will drop down the list when compared to the other OC’ed CPU’s.

Sharpening up in-game FXAA

Quick tip for removing some of the blur from the in-game anti-aliasing without using SMAA which distorts the UI.

1. Download SweetFX 1.3.3 from here – http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/
2. Install and add GW2.exe as a SweetFX profile.
3. Untick all options except for LumaSharpen.

Under “sharpen strength” option adjust this to clean up the FXAA blur, but not too much as to ruin the AA effect FXAA provides. I found 0.033 to be perfect on my setup.

Happy gaming folks

Why am I not having this problem? I’m not saying it isn’t a problem — but it’s an inconsistency none the less.

The reason why this is not an issue with you is because the RNG in this game needs to be tweaked. A good portion of members have issues with bad RNG, while others are incredibly lucky. I think there is something wrong with the coding of the RNG that causes this to happen, but I am sure there are more theories then this.

Yes, the drop rates are very low, lower than many old-school MMOs – but it is how ANet have designed the game, so basically – we’ll have to deal with it.

The trick is to fill a bowl with m&ms and every time you kill a mob you eat one. Or put a bunch of different treats in little bags and grab a bag when you kill something, Ooo I got a good treat that time. Anet isn’t going to reward you, you have to do it yourself.
