I don’t get it, did you people not use the coin? If so, how are you justifying getting a return on a used product?
If you go into an all you can eat restaurant, and they give you a wafer, then you would be justified in asking for a refund if the staff went out for a few hours instead of cooking any more food. While the term “infinite” was obviously to be understood in the context of “when its open”, there was also a reasonable expectation that SAB would actually be open at some time within six months to a year of purchase.
Nothing explicit was said, no explicit dates were given, but just as it is reasonable to expect food in a restaurant to come within an hour or so of ordering, it is reasonable to expect use from a product within a year or so of purchasing. At the very least an explanation and apology for the delay is expected. If after two hours of waiting in a restaurant the waiter refused to make eye contact or speak to you even though you had already paid, you’d be rightly angry. This is that, but after seventeen months.
I will parrot OP. I’m not a SAB fan personally, but there is literally NO reason not to have it open for people to play when/if they want to.

Thank you. Seriously. This post made my day brighter. You are a good person, and you should feel good.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
I never liked Super Adventure Box… but why is it gone?
Let me tell you, I really feel for the SAB fans. Is there a reason you can’t enjoy content you like? I don’t imagine you care whether or not there’s a part 3 out, do you? You should be able to play parts 1 and 2 anytime you like. It’s mystifying. It’s even worse than making the various Activities (Keg Brawl, Southsun Survival, etc.) available only on certain days.
I don’t like SAB, but I say open it up and keep it open! Variety is the spice of life. The game could use a little spicing up about now.
EDIT: Nuts. They merged my thread. I hate it when they do that.

I can’t say I’m surprised at all. SAB World 2 was the one piece of content that really was created somewhat collaboratively with the players. It was the one thing that’s been developed where the lead developer actually enjoyed discussing the content with players and made appropriate changes based directly on feedback. ANet doesn’t so that anymore so it’s pretty easy to see why they don’t consider SAB fitting in any more.
Yeah, I LOVED the interaction over SAB world 2. Its probably the best PR I’ve ever seen from ANet since starting, and it encouraged me to buy gems.
To my knowledge the guy who did it got in trouble for it
Yeah this whole “you’d be bored with it” thing makes no sense. How exactly is increasing game variety going to make boredom more of a problem? Most of us would play it occasionally if it was permanent, just like the rest of the content. Apart from the hardcore few who get all the trib mode skins in the first few weeks, there would basically always be a reason to go back for a couple of runs.
Heck, if they’d actually taken it seriously and added a time trial mode and a weekly/monthly/permanent leaderboard people would be playing it long term.
I’m asking for a refund, no sense in paying for something I can only use when they tell me. Skins can be used whenever, harvest tools whenever, music instruments whenever, infinity coin, lol whatevs noob.
Of the group that enjoyed SAB, most seemed to flood the forums with nothing but complaints about is so I think players brought this on themselves.
Look at any forum for any game sub-mode (PvP, WvW, activities when applicable) and you will find an endless string of complaints. Does that mean those modes should be removed? Hardly. No matter what content you create, in any game, some people will complain about it. There will also be some people who love that content. There may even be overlap between those groups. The fact that people complain about a game mode is really neither here nor there as far as a meaningful indicator about whether or not it should exist – it’s just an inevitable fact.
I’ve already put in a support ticket for a refund for the Infinite Coin, this whole thing just kittenes me off. I’m done supporting this game with buying Gems.
Unstable Shield, Unstable Light
Wtb permanent portal to SAB in Rata Sum.
You don’t have to update it.
Just leave it there.
Blue skins are limited and trade-able, while all other colors are not limited and account bound.
Skins are not a problem.
The problem with SAB is… wait… sorry, i don’t know any sensible reason against SAB. Those who don’t like it, won’t play it.
Seems like the only logical course of action is to reactivate the old SAB content. This way, everyone wins:
1) People who like the SAB can play in it.
2) People who purchased the infinite coin would have no basis for requesting refunds, as it would still be usable.
3) No further development on it is required, and those resources can continue to be allocated wherever else they are needed.
4) Even for those who don’t care to play in it, having the SAB in the game makes it larger, and more content in general means more things for people to do, which keeps the game populated.
The alternative is letting countless hours of development energy go to waste and angering some portion (no idea how big) of the user base. Seems pretty obvious to me which is the better choice.
Hello all,
I sent in a ticket and the support person said the issue would require a bit of additional investigation. The person escalated my ticket for further asisstance.
So they didn’t dismiss it immediately for sure, so I’ll report back here when I have a final answer.
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
I also bought an Infinite Coin to show support for SAB and to play the hell out of it when it existed. Not bringing back SAB in any form would be really a poor move on the product roadmap.
Heck if Blizz can refund pre-orders of WoD in WoW because of no flight, I am sure Anet can refund $10 for a coin that people cannot use !
Unless they would relish the really bad press they could get when annoyed players stop posting here and start posting on forums they do not control, like G4 and IGN where publicity will get out and GW2 will not gain any new players ..
Sometimes negative press is not such a good thing ……..
Besides, unless the coin was NEVER used (I kind of doubt that), you already got you money out of it. Trying to throw a collective tantrum to get some content returned is not likely to change their plans.
How exactly is “more than never” the equivalent of getting money out of an “infinite” continue coin? It isn’t a tantrum. When the coin was on sale, we were told that worlds three and four would come. At the very least, it was reasonable to expect we’d be able to play worlds one and two regularly (six months seemed reasonable based on the window between one and two, a year given the back to school theme).
I agree that these should be refunded if SAB is never coming back. They really should just turn worlds one and two on permanently though.
What dreadful business < SAB.
Mordremoth < SAB.
Mawdrey < SAB.
Something completely different? WVW.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Their response made absolutely no sense to me. Just turn the darn thing back on, and let people lay it or not, as they like.
Maybe if they actually visibly provably CARED about immersion, instead of just talking about it, I could believe them.
SAB <<< Taimi being ’super annoying, arrogant Asura #5955237421 and Kas and Marg spending every single ounce of dialogue making sure we all know they are a couple?
kitten’n A…
Here’s a guess that fits with a lot of Anet’s behavior:
Someone at or near the top of Anet’s hierarchy has tunnel vision and judges success or failure using metrics from (only) the LS. Those who wish to keep their jobs have incentive to pump up LS metrics as high as possible, regardless of how it affects the game. One easy way to do this: do not work on or release content that are not LS related.
This is some of the best news I have heard all month!
They finally stopped wasting development time on mini-games and are focusing on the actual game!
If by game you mean gemstore, living story (aka more gemstore) or Esports dream then yes they are.
You shouldn’t even have to ask. The Infinite Continue Coin exists solely for a specific gameplay mode that no longer exists.
The instant ArenaNet decided to remove SAB from the game and stopped making plans to bring it back in the foreseeable future, they should have mailed out refunds to anyone who purchased the item, with an apology. If they feel comfortable enough that SAB will return permanently, or at least on a regular schedule, then they can put it up for sale again. But until such time, they goofed — and owe their customers an answer.
There is no confirmation that SAB is definitely not returning, which I would suspect be the only case in which support is going to even open your email.
The complete absence of any plans for SAB is confirmation enough. Until there is evidence that it will return in a timely manner, it’s functionally identical to it never coming back at all. We don’t need proof that it “is definitely not returning” at any point in the future.
Imagine if Amazon sold a discount card: for $40, you can have 10% off all book purchases. And a couple months later, Amazon just stops selling books. When asked about it, they issue vague statements like “We can’t say what our long-term plans are at this time. Selling books seems to conflict with our current plan of selling movies.” Or “You can’t prove we’ll never sell books ever again, therefore we don’t have to refund you!”

I hated SAB when it first came out; I thought it was a waste of time. When SAB came out again however, I started to actually try it out and I was surprised to find that I was enjoying it. Not only that, I ended up getting the infinite continue coin because I was having way more fun with it than I ever expected.
The living story is insulting enough, taking the main character (commander of the largest military force in the history of Tyria) and turning him/her into the boss of a small band of misfits solving mysteries. If anything, I’d actually like to take a break from this Living Story which takes itself way too seriously for second-rate writing (by this I mean it seems more like fan-generated content more than proper story development), and SAB would be a nice way to break away from the game for a while.
A game within a game. Gameception.
SAB or RIOT! =(
New Event Nearby: Riot in Rata Sum! Cause property damage and disrupt Asuran research until Moto activates his Super Adventure Box. Fails if counter-protesters cause more damage than you within the time limit.
I wonder if we can get a refund on the infinite coin?
Despite my massive dislike for JPs, SAB was a lot of fun and a nice change of pace from the rest of the game. They should bring it back, especially after a fair few of us bought the infinite coins from the gem store >.>
I read that interview as well and it made absolutely no sense to me.
SAB should be a permanent part of the game – even if they dont update it for a long time (they should update it though – alot of people loved it). I view it as more of a minigame than part of the narrative content.
If the issue is the reward, simply remove the weapons. Most people want it back simply because it’s something fun to do.
(Sorry for double post, this is unrelated to above)
There’s still a story issue that hasn’t been addressed yet: Personal Story and Dungeon Story Mode relations.
Currently, you’ll get a “introduction” by the Herald at level 25. At level 30, you get a letter about Ascalonian Catacombs story. However, at level 40 you have the Destiny’s Edge meeting in which Eir talks about going to Ascalon Catacombs indirectly. And at level 50, you get a letter from your iconic talking about events at AC, TA (level 40 dungeon), and CM (level 50 dungeon).
IMO, the “easiest solution” if the changes to levels of the Personal Story remains unchanged (something I personally don’t mind, though I’m unsure about the “locked until level” part) would be to raise the dungeon levels. Make AC story level 45, TA level 50, and CM level 55 – leave the rest as is, and raise explorable to an appropriate story level+5.
My “preferred solution” would having all explorables at level 80 (makes cross-dungeon balancing easier), have AC story at 50 and each subsequent story dungeon 5 levels higher (TA=55; CM=60; SE=65; rest as is)
Whatever the solution, just figured I’d bring this up on the topic of Personal Story fixes.
I’ll add this to the list of things to investigate. It might just be an issue of changing when we’re triggering the sending of those mails (or how they’re worded).
Could you clarify, for absolute certainly: will the story steps that were re-ordered be returned to their original order (in addition to the restoration of the Greatest Fear arc)? And will the story instance entrances be returned to their original locations, rather than the current airship ‘airdrop’ thing that currently occurs at Fort Trinity?
Yes, the story steps will be restored to their original order. We’re looking into removing the airdrop step as part of the fixes as well.
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU
In other news, do you know when we can expect this update to go live? Will people be grandfathered into the fix again, or will all players get it regardless of their story step?
My fiance recently started playing and I’d like to know at exactly which point I should advise him to put his PS on hold, and how long for.
He’s excited about the game, so please let it be soon!
My advice to people who are interested in playing the restored Personal Story (which will include the Greatest Fear steps, original chapter 8 ordering, and various minor text and VO updates) is to not complete A Light in the Darkness (in chapter 6). That way you’ll be able to play the restored content in its entirety when it goes live.
We’re currently discussing release dates and will share that information when we’re able. Thanks again for all your great suggestions and patience.
The mails isn’t really an issue. The issue is the dungeon’s levels.
It’s out of scope for this particular team to change the level requirements for the dungeons, so all I can do at this point is either change the level at which the mails are triggering and/or adjust the mail text. Totally open to suggestions here, but I wanted to let folks know the constraints.
