As mentioned by Just Trogdor, don’t open another ticket. If you haven’t heard a response within 72 hours (wait until then), post your ticket number in the sticked 3-day ticket thread in this same sub-forum. Opening more tickets only slows down the process.

The 8th was yesterday. I believe there can be about a 72 hour window before you should be concerned about not getting an answer. Also if you are thinking of submitting another ticket for the same issue this can slow down the response. Just throwing that out there because I see people here do that a lot.

Even changing 1 member of the matchup can compleatly shift the balance of the match and make it much fresher. Under the old system yes you would have goten a new match this week and then 4-5 weeks down the line that matchup would be geting stale because you’d now be stuck in T4 instead of T5 (asumeing you didnt drop back down) Now the chances of geting at least 1 opponant different from last week is much much higher other than the fringe cases of changeing tiers. The chances of both opponance changeing are still very high.

Yes luck of the draw kinda hurt you this week. Your server managed to roll a 1 on a d20 for a critical failure and got the repeat match. While your luck could be very bad and it could happen agian you are far more likely to end up in a different match. Yes you may have one of your old bedfellows there with you but you could also end up in a match like the T3 one where you loose by a landslide and still pick up twice as much rating as you lost this week.

While this week is bad for you do to pure bad luck in the long run your going to have more varied opponents far more often than before.

In resume, this week reset, can you ArenaNet give us hope and refresh tier 5? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME THANK YOU

It refreshes every week, just hope each server rolls something very different, THAT is your hope!
Still that’s the randomness that is WvW, there are far worse servers for us to face than Ehmry, while we’ve fought them long enough it’s not very exciting as we know the outcome when the week begins :P

I’ve been one of those that favors the new matchmaking system. Its not what I would have chosen, but its better than the original method.

The more I look at it though, the more it seems like the entire rating system is the problem. Its not that the ratings are wrong, in fact they pretty much are accurate in terms of a servers “position” in the rankings at any given time. But if something changes, the ratings take way too long to adjust.

On top of that, the whole tier system it bad. There are not just two other servers that would make good matchups for your server. There are in fact a number of combinations of servers that would be good matchups.

What we need is a system that gives more variance in the possible matchups. But limits that variance to those servers that would be “good” matches for your server.

I’m willing to give this system more time but I’m not convinced that it will give the variety needed. Given the arguments in this thread, if accurate, it seems like things may quickly stagnate again. Or you’re going to be fliping between getting dominated and dominating.

I can’t help wonder if these servers who have dealt with a twelve-week old matchup finally understand the pain we felt in T8 when we had to deal with the same old bootstomping (whether it was the giving or receiving end) for fourteen weeks. On top of that we had to deal with remarks of not having deserved the tier shakeup despite evidence to the contrary.

I might just be too optimistic about the human race, though, and people are too self-entitled to see further than their own misery—even if it’s the same exact thing they assumed was a non-issue when it applied to others.

Here’s what the top-10 list of possible Ehmry Bay matchups looked like just before the current match started:

6.511720 Sea of Sorrows Crystal Desert
5.399440 Yak’s Bend Crystal Desert
5.019430 Borlis Pass Anvil Rock
4.857220 Sea of Sorrows Stormbluff Isle
4.484480 Borlis Pass Darkhaven
4.180100 Yak’s Bend Stormbluff Isle
4.031770 Kaineng Crystal Desert
3.206880 Kaineng Stormbluff Isle
2.965830 Yak’s Bend Sea of Sorrows
2.794180 Maguuma Crystal Desert

Here’s what it looks like now:

8.674800 Borlis Pass Anvil Rock
5.203620 Borlis Pass Darkhaven
4.158190 Borlis Pass Sorrow’s Furnace
4.044620 Kaineng Crystal Desert
3.993170 Yak’s Bend Crystal Desert
3.547160 Maguuma Crystal Desert
3.122490 Yak’s Bend Kaineng
3.052280 Anvil Rock Darkhaven
3.046610 Sea of Sorrows Crystal Desert
2.837190 Maguuma Kaineng

Note that in the first set, only 2 out of the top 10 potential matchups had either BP or AR as opponents.

Now 4 out of the top 10 potential matchups have either BP or AR as opponents, and the likelihood of getting one or the other has gone way up.

Yes, it’s true that the random numbers might save us next week, but it’s half as likely that we’ll get a good matchup next week as it was this week. This is why so many players on EB feel like we were screwed over by the RNG. It’s not just that we got a bad roll, but that all the servers around us got good rolls, and the combination has about doubled the chances we’ll get a bad roll next week.

Simplify the Matchup System

in WvW

Posted by: Rook.1934

Rook.1934

Simple winner goes up loser goes down system.
Each server plays 2 new servers every week except the top and bottom tiers. Matchups could repeat every other week if matches always ended in the same result but this would be the worst case scenario. Still better than now I believe.

Remove the rating system.
Use the score IN the game where everyone can see it and understand. The old system promoted stagnancy. The new system appears to promotes mismatches. Both are unnecessarily complex.

Servers would naturally move tiers quickly
If a server has a large influx of guilds and improves rapidly it would move quickly up through the tiers until it found equilibrium. Obviously a weakened server would quickly find its new tier also.

Why use the arcane and mystical system we have now when the simplest way seems to work perfectly??

Borlis Pass is a community driven server. We have eschewed any notions of an “alliance” or a traditional leadership structure; we are not the Pact or the BP Alliance. We are Borlis Pass. Our server’s leaders are passionate members of the community, who have earned the respect of their server through their in-game exploits and other contributions. They are not elected or chosen, rather these people are individuals or groups who rise to the occasion and drive the future development of the server. When their work is done, they humbly bow out, and another willing soul shoulders the load.

On Borlis Pass you will NOT be told how to play. If you want to be a part of a server-wide coordinated WvW effort, you can join our weekly meetings in our server wide Teamspeak server to plan out our strategies, or you can post on our server’s super secret commander forums. If you simply wish to hop into a BL and kill some invaders, irregardless of strategies and politics, you are more than welcome to do so! If you want to take a break from WvW and do fractals for a week, no problem. Borlis Pass encourages you to play the game how you want to play it. The most important thing: have FUN!

Borlis Pass WvW highlights the best that WvW has to offer. If you want massive pitched battles between opposing zergs – we got it! If you’re more interested in organized, skilled guild groups – we got it! If you like to take camps with your friends, roam looking for 1v1s, or beat up lowbies – we got that too! Queues are near non-existent, and you can always find a place to play.

If you like to have fun in WvW, and wish to be a part of a laid-back, but deadly, WvW community that doesn’t give up and doesn’t get down – but rather lives for the thrill of the tough fight – Borlis Pass may be the server for you. Visit our forums at Borlis.org and contact some of our community members to find out more!

BP has very effective commanders, we just need strong fighters. Our commanders are very quick on their feet and alert to everything. Our public teamspeak with over 220 people on reset, and all guilds have their own channel and all people are welcome to join the teamspeak no questions asked (except to verify you as a BP member). We have scheduled commander meetings every week prior to reset and we organize reset, and talk about strategies that worked and didnt work for the previous week.

As of this post, BP is really starting to get strong with our new teamspeak and we are able to jump a qued map from map to map when needed. Last night we had a qued map, with 55-60 people in our teamspeak channel from 10PM – 2 AM server time, and we jumped maps several times effectively.

Borlis Pass is a very tight community with essentially zero drama between guilds. There are a few that bicker, but as a whole I would say its zero drama. Borlis Pass is also very “mature” in the sense that there isn’t too much swearing that happens compared to other servers (I have seen videos of commanding from other servers, the language can be pretty vulgar in teamspeak and map chat).

We are looking to accomidate you. If you have further questions please feel free to send me a mail in game!

As a long time opponent of Borliss Pass, I offer this observation: Their server is in need of strong organizational leaders for their WvW presence at all NA daytime hours moreso than additional numbers. Their population is heavily pug/casual in appearance and organization. If a strong willed WvW guild or set of commanders were to transfer here willing to put in the work to organize and train the existing population and promote/lead cross guild coordination, BP could conceivably make an entrance into the tiers of more dedicated WvW servers in a very short period of time.

If you join Borlis your enemies will one day be able to look at you and say, “Oh hey, free loot”

So it’s kind of like being in your guild then?

To be fair, I think EBay tends to view both AR and BP as loot bags in the current match-up. You guys are tough cookies, and I am eager to see what you can do against opponents more your caliber!

For my small part, I’ve been on BP from the beginning. Found my way into WvW as an unaffiliated roamer, and gradually wandered onto the community forum, which has since grown to nigh 700 registered users (including a nice sampling of participants from EBay and some AR). From there, my experience with the game really took off. I’ve hardly left WvW since (what’s this Southsun Cove I keep hearing so much about? :P)

Do we have our fair-share of trolls, drama queens, in-fighting, and spectacular failures? Of course. The victories and triumphs along the way wouldn’t be nearly as sweet without them. We’ve developed a rich and humorous server culture (complete with a secret Brolis Rock Plans and Phases Committee, worshippers of Moose, GOAT farms, Christmas bell concerts, a collection of comical Kalkz hashtags, and many others!) and an even richer assemblage of personalities (this parenthetical intentionally left blank) that makes us, at least to me, a unique and entertaining bunch. It keeps me coming back in the spare time I could be using on any of a variety of other things, anyway

Early on in my Guild wars experience I roamed the worlds looking for a server that fit my and my friends needs in terms of community and WvW presence. It wasn’t a sense of bandwagoning it was more a sense of where I wanted to hitch my trailer to and build up a home.

It took five server transfers before I stumbled into BP, where I met some friendly commanders and watched some epic small scale fights in WvW. I thought okay this is a decent place to set up shop and did.

Yet my rewards were much greater than that, as I soon found friendly guilds to support my PvE exploration, grizzled veteran members of WvW who taught me tactics and turned me from a PuG to a contributing member of a guild. A silly community in lion’s arch often found dancing in front of the bank for some kind of show.

As I put up my feet and relaxed the server’s community grew closer, finding friendly rivals servers in the lists. Faceing tough times and occasionally steamrolling like all servers but what marked BP different in my book is a server that never gave up the fight. They kept their nose to the grindstone kept fighting kept learning.

Now with a new teamspeak the server is poised to grow even more as a community. Open lines of communication have made members more effective more intelligent, and more deadly.

Borlis Pass, is a server with heart, and by our powers combined we can summon a mighty spirit.

Teaming up also only works if there is something to team up against.

Maybe server A has the most points because they have superior coverage during Oceanic, SEA and EU times and tick at 600ppt for 18 hours, while their NA is non-existent and they get basically 0 there. If Server B and C only have NA presence their team-work won’t do any good, because server A isn’t even on any map. All B and C can do is fight each other, which splits the points some way for the 6 hours server A is not dominating and still results in huge run-away wins for server A.

WvW isn’t even about population primarily, it’s all about coverage. If your server’s coverage has fewer gaps than your opponents you can operate without any significant resistance longer and rack up lots of points in those hours. 2v1 does nothing to address coverage issues.

I completely agree with the op (except the part about demoralizing the dominant server – I don’t want to demoralize anyone, I want full maps to play on). I’ve been saying the same thing for a long time.

It is how WvWvW is designed. However, as correctly pointed out, it goes against human psychology and hind brain.

I simply cannot understand people who say it is unfair. If one server is trouncing the other two, it is completely fair for the two weaker servers to gang up on the third.

Additionally, it makes for more fun. Because it means more actual fighting and less PvDoor. And it leads to more WvW participation because the players in the weaker servers feel like they may have a chance – if not of winning at least they can have some fun and not be completely destroyed when they step on the map.

The only logical argument against teaming up is that of avoiding going down a tier. And hopefully the new matchmaking system Anet said they are working on will make this argument null as well.

Would just ruin the fun its World vs World vs World – Not world world vs word.
