It’s in Metrica Province. I’m supposed to go to the lake by Jeztar Falls and help Blopp stop the Inquest from using poison by destroying ampules, gathering herbal materials and so on. It seems as if I’m only able to do these things by swimming down underwater, but I can’t seem to do that. My character is a level 4 Asura Engineer.
I have a quest where my character has to swim down to retrieve an item. I can get her over the item and the little wheelie sign appears, but can’t collect it. The water seems to be too deep. I bound ‘Swim Down’ to the x key, but it doesn’t seem to work for me, even though I couldn’t find any other actions bound to that key. Have I not done it right?
Hmmmmm….. interesting range of opinions. I guess that this crafting thing, like so many others, is something I’m going to have to try out and find out for myself. Thanks, though, for the suggestions.
I’ve been playing less than a month and I’ve got one character, an almost level 6 Human Warrior. I wondered if it’s a good idea to level him up a bit before I start a craft. Is it better to wait a bit so I perhaps have access to better materials? Or is it good in this game to take up a craft right from the start? Most of the odds and ends of crafting materials I’ve looted I’ve sold so far.
Other MMOs I’ve played seemed to do better if you began crafting at a higher level and just gathered while you were levelling. Is this the way to do it in GW2?
I hadn’t ventured into other areas yet, been concentrating on finding my way around the home city. I’m sure now I can find my way a bit better. This is my first time in this game, but not my first in MMOs. It’s a matter of learning game mechanics and the like.
Thanks. I’d struggled and struggled to find my way into that 9 o’clock one. Couldn’t figure it out, looking for hidden tunnels or gates. Now I know I’m not going insane <lol> I’ll try the other one. I really like the game, though. Lots of fun.
I created a Human Warrior about a week ago and am enjoying the gameplay. There’s a quest he’s got that I can’t seem to do yet, but a bit of levelling up should help that.
What I don’t understand is that I can’t seem to get into the trade area in Divinity’s Reach. I’ve tried from all sides both on the lower level and the upper one and there just doesn’t seem to be an entrance. Is it perhaps inaccessible to low level characters? I’d like to get to a bank and whatnot but despite many tries just can’t seem to find a way in there.
Not sure if I’ll try the WvW or not at this time. Right now, I’m exploring and learning the mechanics of the game as much as anything. I’m having some difficulty getting into the trade area in Divinity’s Reach, but maybe it’s just that I’m on the wrong level or something. Real life intervened yesterday so I had to leave the game without finding it. Interesting to see that the amount of ingame gold is seemingly for the whole account, so that all characters have access to it. I think that’s great – no more mailing funds off to alts. I like the game, though, and will certainly continue. I’m sure it’ll all be a little less confusing once I get the hang of it and stop trying to approach it in my accustomed ‘WoW’ way.
Thanks very much for all the help. I’ve not given up on the little Asura and like the Engineer thing, too, but will give that one a bit of a rest until (as I said) I’m a little more familiar with the whole game and whatnot. I’ve been playing WoW for several years and need to adjust my mindset, I think.
Glad to know about the bank thing. It seems simpler, really, than mailing things to your own characters.
I wrote before to say that I’d created an Asura Engineer and was having trouble. It was suggested that I try creating a Human character instead – I did so and really, it is a lot more easy and enjoyable playing one of those. I’m saving the Asura Engineer until I know and understand the game better.
What I’m wondering is this…….. I understand that one of your own characters can’t mail items to another of yours. So, if the one you’re playing loots or buys something that he/she can’t use and is really good for another character of yours, is there any way you can get it to him/her? Assuming it’s not soulbound, that is. I think, ankitten ot sure, that if you put it in the bank, then your other character has access to it. Is this right? Or do you have to mail it to a character on another account and then have that person mail it in turn to your character?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I bought gens, then used some for a kit of various things for new players. The gems I paid disappeared quickly enough, but I’ve yet to receive the items, despite doing all the suggested things to make it ‘work’. So what now?
Again, thanks to all. I created a new Asura (I rather like them) and the whole thing makes much more sense this time. So I’m making some progress, figuring things out, learning a lot. I really like the fact that even as a new character you’re into everything in the area. I always deplored the rush to level up for end-game content in a couple of these games. Seems silly, since getting there is really half the fun. And now they say the next WoW expansion will give you an ‘instant level 90’ either on a character you have or a newly created one. Not sure how you play a character you know nothing about, but that’s what they’re promising and one very good reason I turned to this game.
Thanks, all, for the very helpful advice and suggestions. I think what I’m going to do is start all over and create a new character. I’ll mail what stuff I can to the new one and then delete the original one. Why? Well, I think I can use what I’ve done as valuable experience and can start over and do it better from scratch. I had to do this in WoW years ago when I started and was an absolute novice at mmo’s. In many ways your first character is a learning experience and deleting him/her and starting over is not an admission of defeat, just a chance to try it all again.
P.S. Still love this game, love the way it’s so flexible and you can make it ‘your game’, not just adapt to rigid rules and requirements and fall into line with everybody else.
More than a little discouraged now. Have spent over an hour wandering around Rata Sum and can’t seem to get back to the Snaff Lab. I’ve gone up and down steps, through waypoints, all sorts of things, still can’t seem to get there. Periodically it asks me if I want to return there, I say yes, but somehow I’m nowhere near it. Worst of all, I fell a couple of times, died, sold all the possible stuff I could from my bag, but still don’t have enough money for repairs. Confusing place, Rata Sum, think I’ve talked to everyone there without making progress. Hmmmmmmmm……
Thanks for the help. I (a former WoW player) am really enjoying this game. A lot friendlier and less regimented than WoW. A lot more fun, too, I’m beginning to realise. I’ve still got a lot to learn about it, but definitely will carry on. I’m sure it’s going to get even better
I started playing an Asura Engineer three days ago. I had some difficulty with the mechanics of the game so thought I’d leave the quest ‘Golem Positioning System’ until I became more assured at moving around. Then I began exploring using various waypoints and portals. I thought I’d find other quests to do, but there didn’t seem to be anything.
All very interesting except that now I can’t seem to get back to ‘Home’ so I can do that quest. Is there a hotkey that will get me there or something of that sort?
