Instant level 80's?

in Players Helping Players

OK, thanks. I have one character I may level to 80 just because I want to a) try this free offer and b) like the way she is to play so want to see what it’s like at 80. I’d read so much conflicting info, really. A couple I read did claim to have levelled several (bragging or untrue – who knows?). I suppose like anything in these games, you learn best by doing, so I’ll continue to do that with my other little guy.

Can a character that’s already an 80 access the Silver Waste? I suppose by trudging on down. There must be a path there somewhere.

I’ve been off this game for almost 5 months with a disabling leg fracture that needed surgery and traction so have a lot to catch up on.

This new ‘level characters to 80’ is a bit confusing. I’ve read so many conflicting things about it. Even the official info leaves me still confused. Does this new thing mean that someone could level ten characters to 80 if the player wanted? That seems a bit strange and to me, rather defeats the whole point of these games. If a player splashed out and bought three or four added character slots and creatednew characters, could they be instantly levelled to 80 as well?

Levelling (for me, maybe not others) is half the fun. OK, a bit boring if your new one you’re levelling is the same race as the previous one but you can always take them to another starting zone. There’s plenty to do as you level up and of course there’s always your story. I think this game offers a lot of challenging things for a low level character to do.

We ordered the pre-purchase HoT from Amazon. Maybe I misunderstood the whole thing, but the FAQ on the official website for Arenanet say that you log into your account, enter the code and you should then have the whole thing. But where are you supposed to enter this code? I’ve opened my GW2 account and gone through everything there, logged into the game and nope, there’s nothing there. I made a search of the website again, but there’s nothing there to say where you enter the code.

I know Rangers are the pet class. I just wanted to get rid of this one pig. It doesn’t fight – just stands there and snuffles. I wouldn’t care except that it pops up often in the middle of combat, replacing whatever useful pet I already have out. And then it does the snuffling thing, so I don’t even have to put it on passive really. It already is passive!

I acquired a pet pig somewhere in Gendarran Fields. It’s really not much use and I’d like to get rid of it permanently.

Guildies suggested the ‘Stow Pet’ icon, and said they thought that meant the pet would be permanently gone from use and in effect no longer in existence.

I tried doing this while the pig was out and also when I had another pet out. Either way that did nothing but make all my pets disappear and I couldn’t use one of them until I clicked on the icon to take a pet out of being stowed. Which meant, then, that the pig was still there, that it randomly appeared in the midst of combat unsummoned, and was a general pain in the neck.

I’d like to eliminate it permanently somehow. How can I do that?

I don't understand the point of Karma

Thanks, all, for your posts.

I played WoW for more than 6 years and got heartily weary of crafting. It had a few uses: potions were good, food was good, but the others consumed endless time and ingredients and weren’t worth much. The things I could make (even rare ones) I would make for guildies who asked me or put in the guild bank. Occasionally, briefly, there’d be one high level item that sold for a lot, but not often. I’m not saying I won’t eventually give it a shot in this game, but not for a while – maybe when my first one levels up to 80.

I’m having fun currently, enjoying how much friendlier and more cooperative GW2 players are. I’ve got a lot of zones, vistas, points of interest and waypoints to find.

I’ll continue, then, to stock up Karma, check out each Karma merchant I meet for something besides parsley or oregano or the like, and maybe I will find it useful one day.

I’ve been playing a few months now and have four characters. In my Wallet I have 106,000 Karma and some change. I’ve checked out Karma Merchants up to level 60 and they really don’t sell items worth having. Does it perhaps get a lot better when you’re at a high level?

I don’t craft because I’ve been warned you can’t make a lot of gold by crafting (I gather and sell the gathers instead) and it seems that Karma Merchants have a lot of items to be used in crafting. Is that the whole purpose of Karma?

My level 42 Asura Engineer has five Utility slots. She has a number of available skills I’ve bought, and four are in slots. That leaves one empty slot (I think)to put a skill into, but I can’t. And I’ve looked at all sorts of websites and whatnot but nothing seems to say ‘OK, do this’. I do find it difficult often to find information on the most basic mechanics of this game. Am I doing something wrong? Can you not equip five Utility skills at a time?

I watched so many other people just going leap, leap, leap and disappearing before my eyes to do it successfully. I began to wonder if it was because I’m playing an Asura and thought maybe taller, more powerful races like Charr and Norn had an advantage…… lol

While I’m in here, though, how do you divide a stack of buffs or anything else? I have five speed buffs on my Asura and would like to put a couple in the bank for my other character. I couldn’t find this information anywhere. In WoW it was shift/left click on the stack, but that doesn’t work in this game.

I got my Asura Engineer to level 40 before I really caught on to these vista things and began giving them a try.

So I went back to Metrica Province and began doing them one by one. I got better as I went along – got better at figuring out where to go and what to do.

But one has me completely baffled. It’s in Muridian Uplands. You go jump, jump, jump to a stone ledge and then you’re supposed to leap to a hammock-like thing. I’ve tried 35 times now and never can make the jump no matter how I position my character on the ledge.

I keep seeing other people doing it with no problem while I crash to the ground. I’ve watched several videos, read up on a few websites, but all I can see is that I seem to be doing it right except for that huge leap.

You’re right, I should have said that. I guess I assumed pretty well everybody had those these days. But I’m talking about two different brands of wireless keyboards. And the issue with both was so GW2-specific. I could play other MMORPGs, use various programs, all sorts of things.

Plus the fact that my husband has exactly the same computer. The two of them were made by the same company at the same time with identical hardware. He has the same software and programs installed. He’s using a Logitech wireless keyboard identical to the first one I had. So I dunno. But it works fine now and that’s all I needed and wanted. :-))

No, my ‘computer guru’ specifically checked conflicts with anything at all and there was nothing. However, I have now bought a wired keyboard (think I’m supporting the keyboard industry singlehanded) and it works just fine. So I remain baffled but happy at least that it’s stopped causing me problems. The keyboard is connected to the same USB port the wireless one’s hub was, so who knows….. These things are sent to try us. :-]]

I’ve investigated and/or tried all suggestions without success, so am now sort of resigned to having it as an ongoing problem if I want to play. I’ve updated, swapped USB ports, the whole works. I had a friend who’s a computer programmer who alo builds computers have a look at it and he’s baffled too, but did say (and this sounds like the most reasonable) that it may well be the way lag sort of builds up as you play this game, although I have more than enough memory. I was lucky enough yesterday to be able to play for two hours. I guess I’ll just keep on uninstalling and reinstalling daily. I’ve become rather organised about it all and do it during mealtime or when I’m doing housework, so it’s a bit less inconvenient.

No, nothing like that. Only the related install software for each keyboard. I did, somewhere in the whole mess, uninstall and reinstall the software for each. Bought GW2 Heroic in January and installed it and played. I had a Logitech keyboard, brand new. A couple of months later my characters would not move in response to the keyboard with the w, a, s, and d keys. I put in a request for help, got a reply telling me how to repair the game and did that, but it didn’t work So I bought a Microsoft keyboard and it worked fine.

Then after about a month the whole thing started again. Put in another request but in the meantime I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it and it worked fine. I let Support know and they said in effect ‘If your problem’s solved we’ll close the file’.

Now it happens regularly, sometimes after half an hour or it might be a couple of days or a week. And if I repair, nothing changes. Uninstalling and reinstalling makes it work for a period of time (as above) but then it quits again. Sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling makes no difference, so I have to repeat the process. Sometimes if I exit the game and leave it overnight, it will work again. But then (I can tell when it’s starting because the character slows and sort of stumbles and doesn’t respond well) it stops again. Other keys work OK (Enter, f, etc.). Nothing else installed on my computer has failed to work with either keyboard.

I am baffled and frustrated. I can hardly play the game at all. I spend more time messing about with uninstalling and reinstalling again. In desperation I hooked up the Logitech keyboard, but no change. On one of the installs I used my husband’s copy with my key code, but no difference. I’m running Windows 7 64 bit. I can play other games (Rift, World of Warcraft)( and they work fine.

Any suggestions?

And it works both ways like that – whether I invite him or he invites me. And it still fails totally even if the two are standing right next to each other. But maybe that’s the overflow thing, although if it is, then right-clicking on his portrait ought to work as you said, right?

Also. I went through ‘options just a couple of minutes ago, line by line, and couldn’t find anything about how many characters could be displayed on screen.

Sorry I haven’t been playing tonight to accept the offer of help. That would have been great. And when I say we were just about to go into the house to save Faren, sorry – what we were actually both supposed to do is kill the various bandits that had made off with him. I knew, though, that the house/rescue would come next.

Puzzling that once again today we could not group with two Necromancers we’d created (I know – so many characters, but my son wanted one, so I created one too), both human, both not having done any of the personal stories together and oops, they were both blacked out. It turned out to be what had been said, one or the other or both was in a sort of ‘holding place’ because the realm was busy. It wasn’t, though – it was the lowest populated of the EU places. Tried everything to fetch one or both out of the nether somewhere and nothing would happen.

Then, just for the heck of it, we created two Guardians. And, in total opposite something or other to the Necromancers, could group them instantly and make our way through many of those heart things (can I call them quests?) and then start on our personal stories. Baffling, absolutely baffling. There was maybe five minutes tops between our playing both sets of characters.

All of the ungroupable characters have been in the same world/realm, the same level, had about the same amount of personal story to do, and just didn’t seem to be able to group and function.

The two low-level Rangers had been out in the country together, sorting out crab traps and finding Moas and whatnot. Anyhow, we won’t worry about it. Gives each of us a character we can play independently for the times we can’t both login due to the interference of real life. :-))

We’re definitely on the same world (Vabbi) and at the time we grouped there weren’t any other players in that area. We checked everything carefully at the Character Select screen. Grouped and once again we were both blacked out. But……. when I looked at his screen and he looked at mine, we could see the same NPCs and buildings and all. We were at the point where you have to go into the house to find the chained-up friend (Fagen, I think?) and set him free and proceed on from there. Both characters are Human Rangers, same level, same world, same whole thing. We’ve not yet joined a guild because we’d like to get a little more familiar with the game first. And neither of us has guested to another world/realm to play, mainly because we don’t know how to do that! :-))) So I continue to be baffled. But we’re levelling these two separately now and I guess that’s it.

No, nobody was offline or in a different map. We were (supposedly) standing together in Divinity’s Reach right next to one of the waypoints. He hadn’t started anything, nor had I. We’d just logged on and I’d invited him and he’d accepted when he said ‘Hey, you’re all black’. And his portrait was too. Still baffled but we’ve just decided that for some unfathomable reason we can’t group like our other characters can, so we’ll level independently and not try grouping again..

My son’s Human Ranger and mine are on the same realm. So we logged in, I invited him to group and he accepted, but his character’s face was blacked out. I right clicked on that face but only got a menu of things like leaving the party, kicking him out and so on. He tried the same with my character and got the same menu. There seemed to be no way to actually get together. Baffling. So then we created another pair of characters and they grouped perfectly well and shared everything. Any more suggestions, please?

The game has changed a lot and I could accept that, but this thing made it endlessly frustrating when, as you say, all one of you wanted was a little help with a difficult quest. Maddening. And one reason why I gave up the game and came to this one. So far I really like GW2 and am enjoying gameplay. It seems a far more ‘grown up’ game than WoW has become.

I’m rather glad about not being able to boost. In WoW I saw people get low level characters to 90 in a twinkling by boosting and it always seemed unfair to me when others were slogging along, doing it solo.

Just one other thing – is the ‘life story’ the same for two characters of the same race and profession? Or do your decisions when creating a character (wish you’d joined the circus, counterattack with ferocity, etc) make for a different life story?

Thanks again.

I’ve looked all over for info without success, but wonder if you can be ‘differently phased’ in this game so you never catch up? Can a slightly farther-along character, then, not help another to catch up with him? Or, for that matter, can you boost a lower level character?

But the whole crafting and gathering thing has me puzzled. I bought both characters the necessary items to gather with, but how and where do you find things to gather? I’ve acquired a few odd bits and pieces of crafting materials as loot and banked those, but are there no nodes to mine or plant-y things to gather or animals to skin? Do you perhaps have to select a profession and then these things appear? And I’m not sure how to fish. Can you buy fishing gear or is it a kind of drop?

Many thanks for any help.
